On that day they cook all types of Non vegetarian food and even offer beedi or cigarettes and liquor depending on what ever the departed soul was attached to or had the habit of. Namita ji, i am in Australia. My husband died on 13 dec 2020. We dod every ceremony with full devotion. We did asthi visarjan by the side of a flowing river. My elder son took a part of the ashes with him to keep with him. Can it have a bad effect on any one in the family? He did it for his love for his father not caring for the traditions. It is hard to convince him not to do that. If it can have a bad effect then we have to let him know about it. But if it does not matter, then its ok. Please tell me. I am very confused.
So very sad for your husband. I hope you all are coping well. please convince your son to flow it in river. It's like keeping a part of dead with you that is actually was his body. When even the soul left the body then why the alive people keeping the part of dead? Let it go. The ashes should never be kept at home. Without any attachment and without harboring any fear let it go. Pour it in to the river again. It's not good to keep a part of ashes. Prayers and blessings for you.
