shes one of the singers alot of the big singers say they are scared to get on stage with because she is dangerous vocally man. one of the greatest. this is the very basic of her to be honestand she still killed it lol
Her song with Will Downing, Nothing Has Ever Felt Like This, is an absolute classic. It completely took over r&b/soul radio. Def something you should grab a glass of wine and listen to the next time you have a free evening to chill.
Rachelle is a gift. She is a jazz/R&B artist. True ARTIST with her voice. She is not just a singer, she is a song stylist. Such a range. She hits the whistle notes. She yodels. She mimics actual instruments!
About the facial “movements”-it’s not that she’s “feeling it” so she’s makes faces. Im not sure if you guys ever took music classes (in school or anywhere), or if you’re musicians at all, but that method is the sign of someone who’s actually been trained in vocal PERFORMANCE and technique. Likely classical voice. Aka opera. lol. Rachelle is trained in classical and jazz. Those mouth shapes are enunciations that help to express the sounds of vowels more effectively in music, where sometimes words may become distorted or misheard. Those expressions are the same as when choir teachers or vocal teachers tell singers to stand up straight, feet shoulder-width apart, singing from the diaphragm, head up, etc. There are even more adjustments a person can make beyond just those, like flexing the abdominals, or even flexing your pelvic floor (holding a fart, lol) for stability. 100%. This is yoga training actually! 😆 Not even singers can benefit from all this, but any musician. And not only musicians, as these are all just techniques for good posture. So her facial expressions are actually her having correct “posture” while singing.
The scat singing and saxophone sounds-she was definitely imitating a brass instrument with the high notes, but what many ppl probably don’t hear is how she was fusing it with the sound of the double (upright) bass. The lower notes on the scat singing are completely reminiscent of the bass strings being slapped!
This is one of your best vids!!!! My cheeks absolutely hurt from smiling and the laughter!!! I have to say this woman is incredible and the industry wasn’t ready for her!!!
I cannot believe you're doing Rachelle!!! She's AMAZING, and it's great that you've found her!!! What a voice, what gifts this woman possesses. So happy you're giving her a listen!!! (Rachelle > Rah-SHELL)
@weeklytop5 Soooo Mike and Joe here a very interesting fact about Ms.Farrell, she said the her label wanted her to stop making faces because it wasn’t attractive and made her less marketable. She said No, she sings that way naturally which allows the sound to come out of her organically. Best decision ever.
This is a song that she sang, but this live version is at the famous Apollo Theater, so if you want to entertain an audience, this is the place to do it!
Ella Fitzgerald - How high the moon - live in Berlin. Where she forgot the words and scatted an instrument the entire song. This was the start of this type of vocal play!
Okay... Rachelle is an absolute vocal artist. Listen to "Nothing has ever felt like this." Another jazz artist who who also did some r&b is Al Jareau. "Take Five" "Mornin" "So Good" and "Boogie Down" are just a a few of his hits.
One of the first voices I heard growing up that forever sticks in my mind and heart. She is beyond amazing! Her voice is rich and versatile . the first song I remember hearing by her was " I'm special" my mom played that over and over when we lived in the bronx!
HOT stuff. Rachelle's voice is a gift. You definitely need to react to her tinydesk performance of "I can explain" and her Vienna concert version of "Waiting", it's gonna blow your minds even more.
You get a better appreciation for the song as a whole if you listen to the audio bc it’s more structured but ppl love this performance bc she took it further and showed out with the vocals for the legendary Apollo audience.
@weeklytop5 her label wanted to push rnb but didn’t think she was attractive with the all faces, because she wouldn’t compromise she said she’s less popular but she’s one of the most important Jazz artists in the 90s-2000.
Yes this was normal back in the 90's at the Apollo... If you want to be somebody back in the late 80's and all 90's ...Apollo was the spot . Comedians like David Chapelle his career boom after Apollo
You guys have no idea who you’re listening to, when she really lets loose, the way she can hit notes and sustain them with ease. Many people put Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, and others up on a pedestal, but this woman is on a mountain top of singers who can sing the whistle tone, she also can yodel. Enjoy!
Respectfully, mouth movement is not for theatrics but manipulating the aperture of any instrument wonderfully nuances the sound. This is echoed in her noted ability to scat. Rachelle is classically trained and a most accomplished pianist.
Your voice is the very first instrument. Sure uses her voice in a very instrument a way. She's not doing it for theatrics. She is alsoa Pianist. She is very cerebral about tones
You want to hear another incredible whistle note ? React to Betty Wright singing No pain, no gain : th-cam.com/video/QOJBxGHI1xQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=N7FeG8-2uBis8GS3
I don't know how you do request, but if you do, Rachelle Ferrell again. This is one of her best live performances. It shows her classical piano training, and a lot of musicians are in awe of this performance. Link Below th-cam.com/video/wDO3JuUrYBA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=LI_YhhHwMCvFJbFl
Wait a minute now! We are doing Rachelle Ferrell too!!!!! Wow, what a Tuesday!
I was saying the same thing toooooo. RACHELLE !!!

That was a cute too
Believe it or not, this is incredibly tame for her. Her range is ridiculous and heaven sent!!!
Rachelle is a gift. She is a jazz/R&B artist. True ARTIST with her voice. She is not just a singer, she is a song stylist. Such a range. She hits the whistle notes. She yodels. She mimics actual instruments!
One of the greatest female voices
One of my favorite voices of all times!!! She is just absolutely incredible.

Wow, I have never seen this. This had to be like early 90s… That was freaking amazing. Did you think she hit every note on the piano?
This is a song that she sang, but this live version is at the famous Apollo Theater, so if you want to entertain an audience, this is the place to do it!

Also, Rachelle has been having some health problems recently and unable to tour. There's a musicians fund in place to help her out financially.
