That would not be admissible in any court. Even if we suppose an actual policeman took an actual laptop from an actual person, if the policeman let the laptop out of his sight, not locked up, and later picked it up, chain of custody would have been broken, and it would no longer be valid evidence. But intelligence services have determined the alleged laptop was sourced as Russian misinformation. I have never seen a time so many people would embrace Russian lies to destroy an American. As a former addict (9 years sober), I find that law quite messed up. I say this as someone who wants tighter gun control laws to help prevent mass shootings. At the same time, as a former addict, I find it messed up to have such a law when we live in a country which does not provide the help which so many addicts desperately need so that they can become sober and become contributing members of society, rather than wither away and die. And meanwhile, drug addicts often are forced to go to dangerous areas and meet up with potentially dangerous people to acquire the drugs, which is likely why Hunter felt the need for a gun. We need to start helping our addicts, rather than constantly penalizing them for falling into a trap they never saw until they fell. Personally, my family could not afford to send me to rehab and although I desperately wanted help in beating my addiction, I never got it. Seven years after asking for help, I somehow managed to muster the strength to face the demons of withdrawal, but only when I was displaying early signs of kidney failure at only 27 years old and decided I would not allow addiction to kill me. But those additional 7 years spent battling addiction irreparably destroyed the 8.5 year long relationship I had with my high school sweetheart, cost me the college degree in music production I had about 2/3 the credits for, left me with clinical depression and social anxiety disorder and cost me every friendship I had, and while fortunately my kidneys fully recovered, it caused damage to my cardiovascular & circulatory systems.
Do you know how many people probably answer that question the way Hunter did and nothing happens? The prosecution absolutely made politics play a part in this conviction but the major difference is how Hunter accepted his charge as opposed to Trump throwing his cake at the wall like a child.

As a former addict (9 years sober), I find that law quite messed up. I say this as someone who wants tighter gun control laws to help prevent mass shootings. At the same time, as a former addict, I find it messed up to have such a law when we live in a country which does not provide the help which so many addicts desperately need so that they can become sober and become contributing members of society, rather than wither away and die. And meanwhile, drug addicts often are forced to go to dangerous areas and meet up with potentially dangerous people to acquire the drugs, which is likely why Hunter felt the need for a gun.
We need to start helping our addicts, rather than constantly penalizing them for falling into a trap they never saw until they fell.
Personally, my family could not afford to send me to rehab and although I desperately wanted help in beating my addiction, I never got it. Seven years after asking for help, I somehow managed to muster the strength to face the demons of withdrawal, but only when I was displaying early signs of kidney failure at only 27 years old and decided I would not allow addiction to kill me. But those additional 7 years spent battling addiction irreparably destroyed the 8.5 year long relationship I had with my high school sweetheart, cost me the college degree in music production I had about 2/3 the credits for, left me with clinical depression and social anxiety disorder and cost me every friendship I had, and while fortunately my kidneys fully recovered, it caused damage to my cardiovascular & circulatory systems.
