I actually tried doing the challenge and I noticed that I actually started to get better with my timing. This challenge can get frustrating but it does help improve upon your skill
I think the ultimate takeaway from my vid is that switching it up can be the most invigorating thing. Even if it's not getting rid of your a ranks, you can always swap skins, play songs that you enjoy, play in multi, change your sens/playstyle etc. I hope you find motivation to continue pushing! : )
when i was new to the game i was subconsciously doing this challenge on a smaller scale when i was just starting to fc low 3 stars and when i dropped the challenge after s ranking most of the maps i exploded from 900,000 to 430,000 rank in a month or 2
That's what we like to hear! I think one thing I should've covered is the idea of doing this challenge in groups; first limit testing and achieving a bunch of A ranks, then improving as many as you can, and then going and setting new limit tested scores. I find that this method is the best way to improve both your mechanical capabilities and your consistency. I hope you continue climbing!
It seems I have been doing something similar this whole time trying to fix old low star scores and just generally get S or SS FCs on low star maps. It seriously works (gained 20k ranks in 2 weeks), and brings me ever closer to my goal of 5 digit by the end of the year. Currently sitting at 166k, but given some of the plays that I know I am very much capable of setting, I do believe my goal is possible. 5 out of my top 10 plays have been set within the past 2 weeks, so there's that. I set a new top play a week ago on Kira Kira Days (the sotarks version), ended up getting 6 100s on it, but unfortunately it was a 1 miss play, still ended up being worth 217pp, if I had gotten the FC, it would have been 250pp. I've had multiple other chokes like that since too, just 1 miss 99% acc plays. I'll post an update in the replies to my comment in a couple weeks to report back on how I have done with meeting my goal of becoming a 5 digit. If I haven't, please do reply to this comment and remind me, thank you.
@@Quirkay it's going very well so far, I'm at 150k now, and I also now have more S ranks than A ranks. set a couple more 200pp plays, one is a choke and one is an actual fc (for once lol). Just today, I have choked a 6 star fc on 3 different maps, I don't have an fc on a 6 star map yet, but I am getting ever closer. It's a mental barrier really, I know I'm capable of it, and once I get one, I'll get many more. Those chokes today btw were 98-99% with a random miss in the middle that there's no reason I should have missed. Still a long way to go though, 41 out of my top 100 plays are still below S rank. Much better than it was before though, and quite a few of them will be new choked scores set within the past couple days.
I'm new to this game... and my way is kinda same, installed all my favourite songs, and play them on S and SS tier, all of them by stars difficult thing, after reach at least S (and no miss), I move to the next star
this actually really helped me! I already did the same in taiko a while ago in order to get better at triples and acc/ur I've really had consistency issues in std but this challenges helps me improve way faster than anytime before. I can finally play DT, too
@@Quirkay yeah sure! I'm not too good in taiko though (rank 3500-ish) but I will give you tips based on my personal experience. Before you start, you NEED to choose which playstyle you want to play (ddkk or kddk or something else). If you switch later on, you'll need to relearn all the patterns again which takes a huge amount of time (I switched for example, and it took me 200 hours to get to the same skill level again, so just don't do the same mistake!). Technically you can choose either of the playstyles, kddk has some benefits over ddkk like high bpm streams/bursts are easier/more possible to do, but ddkk on the other hand makes it easier to achieve higher acc. In the end, it comes down to preference, there are many top players with both styles. It's kinda like mouse vs tablet whereas more players use tablet/kddk than mouse/ddkk. I would personally go with kddk since it's not so stamina-limited and makes improving later on way easier (and you can play the original taiko game, too). I myself play kddk. Some people say kddk makes the learning curve more steep, but in my experience it's as difficult as with ddkk. Just try to stick to it and keep learning patterns at the start. You first need to master simple patterns and then later build on that basis to play more complicated and longer patterns. I would also recommend watching this video to understand everything I just said: th-cam.com/video/zbKg0kPyxRg/w-d-xo.html Taiko is, like mania and catch, completely different to play and learn than std. You will also need to get used to the horizontal scrolling/reading of taiko. Generally, most people recommend looking at the right side of the screen (it's really difficult at first, but it will help with reading later on!). You can also try the hidden mod, which really helps with this since it forces you to look on that side (do this only after you learned the basic patterns though). With all this in mind, learning patterns in taiko takes a lot of time and can be really frustrating, so good luck!
@@Quirkay sorry for the tagging again, but do you perhaps have any tips on how to improve at std? I'm still at rank 250k but can't seem to get consistent, I always miss randomly, especially on jumps. I can't play jump maps at all and always get frustrated after :(
I think the best method to improve consistency is playing maps that are new to you and playing longer maps. Training nerve control for longer periods of time on maps that are unfamiliar to you will help with those shorter maps, and over time you’ll become consistent enough to be able to play those longer maps comfortably. Hope this helps! :)
@@neinyyth lmfaoaoao rip the pp system when he does lets hope peppy makes some changes otherwise we legit might be looking at 1.8k if he tries hard enough
My only suggestion after doing it for a while is to also mix in some limit testing as well. It’s a really fun method cause you can easily set concrete goals, and it improves almost all areas of your play!
Damn this is exactly what I am doing rn. Though I have like 1500 A Ranks and only 700 S Ranks. I think I never really "learned" how to fc or put focus into it. Thats why I perform well on 7 stars but can't really fc anything + my reading was a little messed up. I already noticed a spike in consistency after only 2 days so this is valid. No i just have to stop decaying. Good Video
could that really be it? im probably having the exactly same problem, i perform well in high star range to my level, but cant S ou fc anything -_- have 1622 A Ranks and 220 S ranks
Idk why but when I get towards the end of a map on an FC my heartrate spikes heavily and I end up missing. It's part of the reason I stopped playing for pp.. that worked for a little while but now I actually look forward to the score instead of the pp and... spiking again :) What am I supposed to do? lol
As annoying as it is, nerve control is a skill (and one of my worst skills at that lol). Luckily, I think applying the ideas of "A Rank Abstinence" can help build up the skill! It doesn't have to be maps you already have scores on, but playing longer maps that are below your skill level helps a lot. While playing maps at your level might cause spikes in heart rate/nerves, it becomes much easier to manage those nerves after practicing on lower stakes maps that are much longer. At the end of the day, having a balance between getting those FC scores and playing stuff at your level is what I recommend most. I hope this helps!

Hello there, I would like to ask you a question even though it's been over a year, what do I do if I can't even set S ranks on 2-3 star maps as a higher 5 digit? I'm struggling to find out why I cannot FC anything. It's like the whole ass game is one big mindblock.
This question is hitting me hard cause I've been suffering with consistency recently too. In the past, I've always been able to set scores to improve and increase my rank, but all of the maps I've been playing recently (even the easier ones) end in a choke. I think the difference between my sessions now and my sessions in the past is my intention. I've been focused strictly on climbing and improving, which sometimes has its lows. I used to sprinkle those improvement sessions in when I was enjoying the game and having fun, but because I've been so committed to improving with lackluster results, I haven't been enjoying the game as much. This only makes me play worse as I feel more pressure to FC. It's difficult to simply say "have more fun with the game", but there are ways to do this. Playing multis with friends, doing interesting challenges like playing your top plays with different mods, or looking for passes on super difficult maps. I have no idea if my response will help you (since I'm struggling with the same thing atm, it's easier said than done) but I hope my comment ends up helping you in your journey!
@@Quirkay hey thanks for the response, I know this is going to sound ridiculous but I find fun in improvement more than anything and trying to set scores to kinda backup what I thought was improvement is where I find the most lackluster results. But yeah I’m just not having fun because I’m not seeing any improvement anymore and that’s probably my problem.

th-cam.com/video/_8E0V7jSc3I/w-d-xo.htmlsi=P2x9Z9CbTo_vVhpE These are my updated thoughts. I don’t entirely agree with your comment, since some people can skip steps and have to go back and relearn certain ideas, and this method is helpful with doing that. However, using this method exclusively is destructive, and that’s what I covered in the update video
I don't entirely agree. Obviously playing more helps, but playing smarter is infinitely more beneficial. I was playing an equal amount in the months before I started this challenge, but wasn't improving as I was just nonstop grinding the same farm maps. Once I challenged myself by playing maps that used to give me trouble and also played easier stuff that actually challenged my muscle memory, the improvement was instantly noticeable. I don't think that you necessarily have to play maps you have A ranks on in order to improve with this technique. Even playing fresh maps that are significantly easier than what you normally play can help, or just any maps that are outside of your normal pool. There are many players with thousands upon thousands of hours that never leave 6 digit, not because they weren't playing enough to improve, but because they played exclusively within their comfort zone. I hope this clarification helped change your perspective!
@@Quirkay a very good point you make my good sir, and I agree, "I don't think that you necessarily have to play maps you have A ranks on in order to improve with this technique" that was my point really, I probably could have made it more clear so my bad ig. "playing smart" good thing to do but kinda overcomplicated to explain to a new player stuck on 6digit so I think playing what you like is the most effective, if you are not having fun and making the game into a chore you are not gonna improve 1 bit, even if you play smart. also farm maps yeah that was the problem you figured it out so playing different maps is all it takes, A rank maps play little part in it. playing below your comfort zone is cool but only if you wanna improve acc or consistency and if you are 6 digit I would say play above your zone so you can have more mechanical skill(raw aim and speed) and in tern have a larger range of maps you can play, higher star maps have more variety and then you can focus on acc, but this is purely my opinion. so yeah I hope this gives a bit more info on what I actually meant.
