Thanks ever so much. Do check out the “What film can tell us about composition” video as I’m going a bit deeper into it on there.

Wonderful video, would love another perspective of not only 1 element. But countless ones to spark innovative ideas to photography.

Mate, this was incredibly inspirational. I've done my best to incorporate this mindset into my photography; where my image has a real meaning behind it, a story if you will. Thank you for another wonderful video, Steve.

Really thrilled you liked it, Matthew! It’s a great mindset to have and I’ve always been surprised that they don’t just teach this to other photographers.

    Great video mate! Subbed!
I think that the thing you're describing can also be called experience!
I'm not a 'professional' photographer but I do work with video for a living and think this way when doing both video and photography. It's important to think about why you're capturing the moment and what elements, emotions and textures that glues the story together!
There's a lot of preproduction going on with movies and I can imagine that it's the same with professional photo sessions too!
Thank you for a great video and take care!

Thrilled you liked the video and thanks for the sub.
I think, in many instances you’re right; people do pick this up with experience. But part of the reason for that is that it’s not always taught to photographers.
In film school, you learn this stuff in year 1.
I think what we then see is a lot of people who don’t know what they don’t know, so a photographer’s sense of Mise-en-scène doesn’t develop as quickly. I mean, I’ve met some excellent photographers who couldn’t explain how they compose their shots.
Understanding the language around film can often unpack a lot within photography that gets missed out, probably because it is a more collaborative art.
If we can tech people that way of working, or different ways of thinking about their photography, it’s going to help propel them to better photos… And, that’s what I want to help people with.
Thanks once again for the comment 😊

@@SteveMellorPhotography You're right and I'm so happy that you did this video. I think you're going to get far here on YT just for thinking out of the box!
I really didn't reflect on why I did what I did before I watched this video so thank you for making it!
I never went to film school. I just started seriously picking up the camera 2 years ago and I learned a lot within 1 year thanks to TH-cam.
TH-cam has been a great way for me to develop my style and to learn editing in a whole different way too. I see TH-cam as a platform where you can express yourself but also experiment with your style and find new ways!
After I lost my job last year I'm lucky enough to have learned to know people who's amazing at videography. Today I'm able to work with video for a living and I'm greatful for learning from TH-cam (channels like yours) and my connections here on Åland of course!
I'm looking forward to seeing what else you've got planned for this channel!
Thank you for your answer! ❤️

Thanks ever so much. That’s so kind and I’m really glad you’ve managed to carve out a niche after losing your job. I know how hard that can be.
