I say this whenever I get a chance... the left and right hand side control panels need to have the option of floating or fixed so that the page content could remain full width if the floating option is toggled. That would remove the need for a special preview mode and prevent a lot of unnecessary page reflows when the current fixed panels become visible.
So this looks great but I can't get to this in my sites. Apparently, you go to the Dashboard, then Appearance, then Editor. That "Editor" isn't available. Why not? Is there something wrong in my configuration? I've tried it on three different site updated to 6.3. None of them let me see what's in the video. What am I doing wrong? Thanks!
Hey Jim! Thanks for checking out the video. Are you using a block theme? wordpress.org/documentation/article/block-themes/ You need to be using one in order to have access to the Site Editor and all that comes with it!
@@AnneMcCarthy I like Blocksy and I kinda assumed it's a "block theme" but some are telling me a. it's got its own FSE system and b. it's a "classic" theme (does that mean not a block theme?) And now I see Blocksy has an update today to make with work with 6.3 so who knows.

Hi Anne, Great video as usual. I wanted you to know that out of the box, the front end of all beta versions of 6.3 in Xamp with php 7.4 do not work. Referring this bug to the devs. gets nowhere, from experience..., reporting it to you though, things get's things quickly done!!!

Following up here after costdev (a contributor) shared more info. This sounds similar to core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/58711 which is Windows only! Are you able to test again in beta 4 but ensure you clear the wp_core_block_css_files transient to see the fix? Thank you again for reporting this on.

Anyway, thanks to your link to the ticket, I found a way to make a quick code change to the core (never ever do that kids!!!), and got the beta 4 working. I can finally breath again, and start testing my home made FSE themes and plugins with this upcoming WP update. Anne, I can't thank you enough, this is the second time that I got your attention and got things done. YOU ARE NOW OFFICIALLY MY FAVORITE WP PERSON, I have very few others, but you are on top of that list... Again, thanks a million, you really made my week !

Just tried replicating with XAMP and wasn't able to with beta 4 for 6.3. Are you still having issues with beta 4?
