My husband does his own filters, he doesn’t trust anyone to do it. He is an Auto Tech so that helps. We change ours on the road as well. Saves money.

I do every repair I possibly can myself.. I built an El Camino then drove it from LA to Banff.. Knowing the job was done right gave me the confidence to make that trip.. Keep it like it is you are real and that matters to me..Thanks DMC

I had a Ford pick-up before I got my MH that I replaced the fuel filter on once. It took me 4 hrs. to bleed all the air out of the lines afterwards. Evidently there's a Ford special tool that the dealer has that makes this easy, but of course I didn't have it so had to bleed it the old-fashioned way, which took forever. I do all the minor maintenance and repairs on my MH and toad. We're FTers who sold everything 5 yrs ago and hit the road, so I don't have any big tools left, like an engine hoist or transmission jack so I leave those kinds of jobs to the pros who can put it up on the rack and do the job right. I do have some mechanic friends who occasionally help me out on the cheap though. A couple years ago the engine in my Chevy Cobalt SS toad that had about 380k miles on it finally died, so I had it replaced with a used engine down in TX for about $1,500 parts and labor - including a couple new engine mounts too. Just about everything else though from a simple oil change and chassis grease to installing our huge solar system we did ourselves.
The vlog is perfect. Keep doing what you're doing.

You're doing a great job at showing the prep it takes to get back on the road for a long trip. Larry, have you kept a log on how much weight you have added with all the solar and batteries and anything else you have added to the rig? Do you think you'll be overweight? I had rheumatoid arthritis since i was 15 years old. My parents kept telling me it was growing pains. I've learned through the years... If you dont use it, you'll lose it... that's your mobility!!! So although it will take time to recover from the extra work,your body will thank you!!!

I am getting my Ford F-350 ready for a trip to AK that we are starting in July. I'm doing routine maintenance and several mods to the truck and our Raptor 5th wheel. I am enjoying your videos!

It's a Keystone toy hauler. I've been watching occasionally but this vlog caught my attention with the getting ready hustle as I'm doing much the same plus I have a fence to build if it ever dries up here in north Texas.
We like the crunch-time vlogs! So many things that remind us of prepping to leave on our trips. We were full-timers for several years, but now are "some-timers". Hope you guys have a great trip this year. We live in Hot Springs Village (a retirement community) and would love to run into you when you visit the National Park. It is a unique environment that we believe you will be glad you decided to stop.

The saving from changing the oil yourselves equals the price of a plane ticket to go for treatment, so save where you can. 💵💵

Use dish soap on any grease stains and let sit for a while before washing and your clothes will not have any stains

How are you disposing of your waste fuel & oil. I can find a few places that will take up to 5qt waste oil max. But, I can’t find a waste fuel disposal.
Plus campgrounds advertise no maintenance at campgrounds.
We were lucky there was a recycle location place near us.
You are right about the maintenance- we have a special relationship with the campground owners.
We did a detailed campground tour that has brought in a lot of business

How do you dispose of your waste oil? I used to do all my own basic maintenance: fluids, filters, etc. but it got to be such a pain to legally dispose of fluids that I quit.
We found a Sanitation Station that recycled paper, plastic AND oils.
Larry found one just down the road from our campground.
Sorry if your area doesn’t have the facilities. The county website should say if they take “hazardous waste” etc

Good progress. REI is no longer a equipment supplier I will do business with. They have taken political positions and promote BS in many forms. I was a customer for decades but no more. Not a cent ever again. Keep up the great work. Take care.
