Thank you sooo much for posting, i've been trying to find this show for literally 20 years and it was getting to the point that i thought i had imagined it
I remember watching these when I was like 4 or 5, one of my most earliest memories, I have been searching for these for years and years - I’m 29 now and I just wanted to say thank you so much! If anyone knows where I could buy these please hit me up!
"They were gloriously varied creatures. Some striding boldly along on four legs, others skimming the ground on two. Some were hot-blooded. Many were gregarious and social. They travelled far and wide, armed and ready to do battle for food, or to die in defence of their young." Ya know, whenever I feel sad about the Dinos passing, this quote gives me a smile.
I wish this PBS Documentary featuring all 4 episodes of the Dinosaurs was out on DVD. I liked the animated struthiomimus, Corythosaurus probably Hypacrosaurus, Triceratops, Edmontosaurus & Tyrannosaurus Rex aka T.Rex in this episode. In addition, Real live African Elephants.
Since they produced this documentary they have actually found more data showing a multi-million year decline of diversity. It wasn't a sudden extinction event, but a gradual change. And we also know that birds are dinosaurs. It was amazing to be a kid and wondering, "what killed the dinosaurs?", then be a teenager and know it was the Yucatan asteroid, then be an adult and know... they never died out at all...
I read Dr Baker’s Book “The Dinosaur Heresies.” I wish this program had explored his theories that Triceratops could gallop like a horse. Imagine that - a thirty ton Triceratops galloping at a T-Rex, shield down, horns out! The impact would have sent T-Rex flying….
It’s so cool to see the commentary on a theory in its infancy that now has so much evidence to support it and is widely accepted as fact. Science forever.
Mammals, and man in general, have always gotten by on pure luck most of our natural history. Now the birds are supposedly whats left of the dinosaurs, if we all die out cunning crows will be the ones picking at our remains; wonder if we'll get crow-men to complete the cycle..
There’s a bit of stop-motion in this series done by Phil Tippett. Mr Tippett was going to do certain dino effects in JP until Spielberg decided to go with cgi.
The crazy thing about the asteroid is it hot in relatively shallow water, and the earth has many parts of the ocean that's very deep, if it hit in deep ocean it still would've been catastrophic but maybe not as much dust that blotted out the sun, that was the last straw, maybe for months or years, nothing grows.
14:28 And this is where the issue is. There are no dinosaur fossils in or above the Iridium layer, only below. Thus, the dinosaurs were dead already when the asteroid hit.
Ok it's that supposed to be a pachyrinosaurus 50:03 if it is im gonna be mad😡 because pachyrinosaurs don't even have horns if it's not what ceratopsien is this
i remember in school when the dinosaurs went extinct from volcano's and an ice age..,then this asteroid theory was pushed real hard, now most say it was only a small part in their extinction.or their would be a distinct layer of dinosaurs bones..now it's disease ,enviroment ,pests the comet and global warming..50 years and they still can't agree on 1 thing...some frogs freeze solid in the winter doctor bob..
I think it's suggested that they all went together: the shock the earth took from a large meteor (1) may have set off a chain reaction of massive volcanic eruptions, (2) which lead to climate change from the huge amounts of ash in the air(3), which meant that many animals died out.
y'know when i was a wee cub i always thought that the dinosaurs all lived together in one place at one period of time, bare in mind that i had NO knowledge of the geological time scale back then, and then a meteor just came hurdling towards earth and WHAM ! it wiped em all out. but know that i'm older i now know that the dinosaurs all died out in three separate periods of time and what finally did them in was that they all died out at a time when changes that happened all around the earth were already starting to make life tough for them and that it was the meteor that further pushed them into extinction and the aftermath was horrific. but that got me thinking if the meteor and climate change were to blame for the CRETACEOUS dinosaur's extinction then, how did the TRIASSIC and JURASSIC dinosaurs go extinct then if they didn't get wiped out by the meteorite that wiped out their CRETACEOUS descendants ? (please make sure to thoroughly explain your opinion and NO CRITICISM !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Most prominent theory for the Triassic extinction seems to be an outbreak of mega volcanoes under the Atlantic. Wikipedia has a good summary with references to the major studies under "Triassic-Jurassic extinction event"
Sure, but that's the great thing about science. It allows for inaccuracies because it knows that new information may come along to alter testing and results. What's important is that the studies performed in this doc were done via the scientific method and advanced previous theories. In 20 years, odds are we'll be chuckling at some of the ideas being talked about today.
They always make the Chixalub impactor rock look super massive - but in proportion it was a very small, very brief "pin prick" light on the surface of the Earth.

I’ve torn the internet apart looking for this documentary.

nostalgia!!! I remember watching these over and over when I was tiny!! :) gonna be a good day!
Alvarez doesn't get enough credit, both the dad and son, they deserve so much.
R.I.P. dinosaurs, gone too soon, but never forgotten
no..tweet tweet tweet....
I think hundreds of millions of years is hardly gone too soon. We as humans are only ten thousand years. Not even close to one million years.
They are still here, theropods are everywhere!
Thank you so much for posting this documentary! I watched these tapes to exhaustion when I was a kid
Me too! I loved this series as a kid.
+lilquiet0ne Yes Me too me too!!! Childhood memory!!!!
+lilquiet0ne Yes Me too me too!!! Childhood memory!!!!
SAME! Summer 1993 was magical because of this. The music brings back so many memories and the animations give me all of the feels!
same! haha
the animations in this series are just gorgeous. so much more interesting than cgi.
Thanks for adding this! I used to watch this one all the time with my son when he was young.
Arguably the Dinosaurs were and still are success story considering how long they lasted on the time scale and that birds are considered dinosaurs.
This was an excellent dinosaur documentary, informative, fun, and overall great!

Perhaps this documentary needs a sequel that focuses on prehistoric mammals as well.
I remember watching these in first and second grade!!

Thank you so much!!!♥️☮️🥰‼️🙋♀️
I remember watching 6:08 - 7:21 when I was 6.

12:19 this line has been burned into my brain since I was an infant.
This is so dated but I loved these as a kid
*cross-eyed possum exits dinosaur bones*
And that’s where the trouble started.
Mammals, and man in general, have always gotten by on pure luck most of our natural history.

(Baba o'Reilly starts playing)
I just found this on an old VHS tape and I wondered if I needed to rip it for posterity. ;)
Not just that but I'm sure the dinos couldn't breathe with all the smoke and toxins

peter ward rocking the mullet!
HAY ALGÚN ENLACE PARA VERLOS TRADUCIDO AL ESPAÑOL? PORQUE YO LOS VI HACE MUCHOS AÑOS...
Memories
There was NO such animal as a 'sabre toothed tiger'

Hate the music, but love the documentary!!😂👍. Thanks for your show.

You should submit your paper. Win the Nobel prize.

60 Million Years
Ha! I didn’t know that when this was made in 1992 they didn’t know that it was a comet that hit in Mexico and killed the dinosaurs
If it were disease then why did sea creatures go at the same time too then
Yeah and the pterosaurs.
i remember in school when the dinosaurs went extinct from volcano's and an ice age..,then this asteroid theory was pushed real hard, now most say it was only a small part in their extinction.or their would be a distinct layer of dinosaurs bones..now it's disease ,enviroment ,pests the comet and global warming..50 years and they still can't agree on 1 thing...some frogs freeze solid in the winter doctor bob..
hot rod daddy nope the asteroid is still the most accepted theory so you got that wrong.

O fim dos dinossauros foi sim um metero uma rocha o uma pedra gigantesca que matou a vida na terra..
Mark Hamill at age 60 @ 8:00 . That being the case ... " I am your father" @ 8:50. ;)
According to current paleontology, this documentary is full of inaccuracies.

That is assuming of course, that the current theories are correct : )
