From someone who knows little about engines this was really useful and educational as I’m just restoring my own T20. This built my confidence loads and appreciate the time you put into it. Thanks
Your films are helping me out. I have just got a Tractor identical to yours. I know nothing about them. Im about to do an engine tear down…. keep up the films!!
Thank you for this video. I have just gotten a 1950 Ford 8n tractor up and running after rebuilding the engine from the ground up. I love seeing these old machines made to do useful work, despite being 60 or 70 years old, whether in your Ireland or my own Northern California, USA.
Awesome video. I can't put a screw in a peice of wood with a drill so it just amazes me watching you restore this tractor. I love looking at the old machines & am really glad there are people like you who put the work into bringing them back to life. Thanks again for the great videos.
Only problem if your not painting it if you have to get any new body parts they may be different colours i personaly would paint it put it’s your disicusion at the end of the day so go with what you want
Grand video, were after splitting our 135 so itll be a race to see who will be done first, restoration of a 20 diesel vs gearbox and clutch replacement of a 135
@@IFarmWeFarm Oh Jesus Adrian, that's a hard pill to swallow 😂 And never mind the late replies, working nights tonight processing milk from all ye mighty dairy farmers into cheese 😂🧀
A great start Adrian. I love those old tractors. While I like the patina, the fact that you’ve added new parts to it would make it look odd. Can’t beat a nice new coat of paint. Having written this I’ve just realised that the tractor’s probably finished and up and running!
Great mig welders them👍 I've had mine 7 years works nearly every day never gave a minutes trouble, good to see the old fergie getting a new lease of life good luck with it👍
You should get a scraper for the back of the ferguson and it should scrape ur shed and make it easier and faster we use one on the back of our massey ferguson 165
Stargas does a bottle where you buy the actual bottle and then refill it after that no rental as the bottle is yourrs Use the chain on the bottle always and get a can of tip dip keeps shroud and tip clean of spatter
Great video as always Adrian. On the starter bolts "it's probably a 10" all bolts and nuts at that age machine are imperial 😁. You may invest in a few sockets and spanners to save the knuckles.
Great video as always Adrian love watching restoration vids as I'm doing the same but on a Fordson Dexta as for painting it, if it was me I would because any work or new parts on it will stand out a mile but at the end of the day you do what you feel is best for your restoration and how far you are happy to go with the project mate.
It all depends on how much rust and corrosion is on each panel and part. If there’s a lot on one or more that will lead to either welding and grinding or a replacement you’re looking at re spraying that particular panel or part to leave it looking tidy and prevent the problem re occurring again. It’s easy for people to say one way or another from a distance on camera it’s totally different seeing it in person close up you yourself will be the best judge on what way to go based on what needs doing
Great to see the grey fergie being restored. Don't know if ur ferguson has this but on the TE 20 I own there's a button you have to press on the left side, the same side as the battery that u have to press before starting it and then you can use the other button pressed with your leg to get her fired up.
Get a hobby weld gas bottle by the way love the fergie my dad had one now we have a fordson major my dad just got a sip mighty mig last year but we haven’t used it yet we have a Massey Ferguson 690 and one mud guard is very rusty so that is what we have it for from Jack
Cracking video Adrian. She’ll look good when she’s done. I’d leave the way she is colour wise. Connaughtys are very reliable. We used to deal with them up and down
Lovely job if I were you I would paint it and on the welder I rented a bottle of gas and all I had to do was pay once to rent it and other than that just the refill it so I wouldn’t rule out renting
I would love to see the Massey in the ifarm wefarm orange(where it should be red) and green (inplace of the white bits). It’ll personally attach it to you, the farm and the channel. You’ll make the right choice anyway so don’t worry yourself what we think
2 things quickly. Once you tried and mastered the mig welder you will put the inverter in storage. Trick to mig is instead of pulling you push. 2nd thing what I have seen of you you will eventually paint the Massey as you are a perfectionist and the old petina will start bugging you and if you paint it the exposed metal will rust much easier
Personally I'd try and keep the repainting to a minimum as well. You won't be able to avoid painting some things, like where you've welded, etc but I reckon there's nothing wrong with a mixture of colours on a tractor that's already put in a good life's work - it's all part of it's own unique story. Even that dynamo bracket wasn't the worst, it looks like it got someone out of bother once and held up ok!
Wednesday treat of a video Adrian , ripping an fe35 at the minute myself, the front axle pivot on your 20 looks very sound, personally I would not paint it, structurally the tractor looks sound, so it will preserve it nicely with a clear coat 👍
If nothing else it's worth more unpainted! Someone round about will sell a half bottle for €60 + The same for a fill. You just pay fot the refill, in future... Ask a the local welding supplier / engineering yard.
Stargas for the Mig 20 litre ( i use 50 litre bottle but there heavy) is a nice size if u intend to move the mig around the workshop or u could use flux cored wire & no need for gas & u can use outside as no gas for the wind to blow away, but welder may need different wire feed rollers
Painting is a preference or if your going to use it or just show...if show or vintage runs I would paint it especially to finish off your great restoration work but as I said no right or wrong
Great video Adrian, if it was me I wouldn't paint the tractor, I see loads of them painted and they just look all the same, just let it age as it's ment to. Keep the videos coming 👌
Ahh lad that's one beauty of a project to be working on.....all accessable stuff yes but the satisfaction of getting her going will be sooo rewarding Adrian....sure the thermo out was not an issue but hey if there is an underlying prob its not a mortgage to get it right. .... continued success to ye fella and looking forward to the rest of the project as it unfolds. Re the respray or not.....mmmmmm.... not.... I'd love to see her in her working clothes but with a sealer or a wax just.
Painted or leave it as is. Or go mad and airbrush it something completely different dealers choice Try your local motor factor they do rent free gas. Stay away from the rented bottle they are a nightmare to deal with the bigger you go on the bottle usually the better value in the long run
Well Adrian good video. I would get argoshield size y for the welder. It’s about 40 kilos or you could go for size x it’s about 19 kilos if you are not doing much welding.
I’d leave it you can’t buy patina and it tells its history as well the tin work is very straight which would make me want to keep it original more, but at the end of the day it’s your tractor and do what makes you happy, great vid as always 👍
All the threads on a Fergie 20 are imperial. The fine ones are unf and the coarse ones are unc. Harry Ferguson had the nuts made to fit the spanner that came with the tractor. the wheelnuts are 1 i/16af and nearly all the other nuts are11/16 af. Itmeant that if you had a ferguson implement you only needed that one spanner to adjust it. Most of the nuts are either 5/8" unf or 1/2" unf . You can get a cheap set of taps and dies which are ok for cleaning up old threads, not so good at cutting new threads on high tensile bolts Most motor factors will be able to supply you with gas for your mig welder. You buy the bottle and then only pay for the refill. If you change your supplier you get your deposit back on the old bottle. The bottle size I use is the same size as pub gas bottles and it lasts a fair time. If you can arc weld you will not have any trouble using the mig
Year’s in Cavan a company used to refurbish Ferguson tractors in from the uk and you knew them because the wheels were painted a different colour than they should have been
Bonjour j’ai vue vos vidéo très intéressant je refait un massey ferguson 835,île manque des pièces je voudrais savoir le tuyau nuque et brancher à la bougie préchauffage il va ou sa serai sympa merci

Could watch the restoration work all day long, interesting stuff 👍🏻🚜
Great vlog as always. Once the mechanical work is done, a coat of lacquer will preserve it's unique character.
We still have are first Ferguson and running like new love that tractor. Nice to see you and your dad working on it together.

Paint for sure ! Finish it off nicely
Paint it, have it looking as it did in its day when it was the centre of the farm, it will preserve the steel work also, great content👍
Grand video, were after splitting our 135 so itll be a race to see who will be done first, restoration of a 20 diesel vs gearbox and clutch replacement of a 135

Great vid today. Well worth the wait!!! Can't wait to c more on the old girl

Adrian! Good to see your videos again. I missed them. Fun working on the old girl! Good luck with it. 👍

Good video Adrian, great that you are getting the work started on the TEF.
I'd say paint it as it makes everything look much neater and tidier but the decision is yours at the end of the day
You should get a scraper for the back of the ferguson and it should scrape ur shed and make it easier and faster we use one on the back of our massey ferguson 165

Be great to see her at father Phil's vintage silage day if it's happening this year ! , Agree keep her in her working clothes 👌👌
Great video lad.... If it was my yoke I’d paint it 👌
I think give it a good while and then see if it would look better painted
She's in good hands
Good video can’t wait to see it finished 👍🏴🏴🇬🇧🇬🇧👩🌾👩🌾🚜🚜stay safe
Yes it wants painting to get another 40years out of it keep up good vids
Stan Bateman Cumbria uk
It would be a great experience
You could do with buying yourself a set of taps and dies just for cleaning up all those old tread
Good video Adrian nice to see you getting a bit done at the 20
great vid! personally I would paint the tractor and bring it back completely to it's former glory.
Looking forward to see the progress on this old tractor.🚜😷👍

Howdens in Bawnboy Cavan do all them gas cylinders different sizes and stuff for the mig welders
Ya I bought my compressor there, great store
You may buy a set of imperial spanners and sockets. You'll get imperial bolts and nuts in any motor factors
Them dewalt lights are great
No disrespect to any of your other brilliant vlogs A. but this is one of my favourites ones, keep the great content coming lad 👏👍

The date the engine was made is stamped on the cylinder block just above the starter in DD/MM/YY format. Great work. Subscribed and following!

No I really like that rat rod look, I’ve never looked twice at a painted fergie, they all look the same
Another good video Adrian. No paint for me mechanically sound and original and get working it can paint it anytime

I'll say keep the patina, linseed oil will give it good protection against the weather
Patrick Mitchell's in Tullamore for the nuts and bolts unf thread
Erne lifting services in derrylin has unc and unf nuts and bolts, that's where I get them.
Paint it pristine condition stands out
Great content keep up the good work😊
No keep it the way it is it looks cool 😎
I think so
Well Adrian good video. I would get argoshield size y for the welder. It’s about 40 kilos or you could go for size x it’s about 19 kilos if you are not doing much welding.
I'd paint it Adrian!
Hi Adrian the rent free bottles are ok if your using one fill or less a year otherwise an air product or BOC is the better option
Keep up the good work mate
That's tractor will look very nice now when she Is all done up. I would not Piant that tractor if I was u I would leave the old colour on it for now
Good video 👍Mervyn Gilmour engineering directly behind Gilmour electronics will have small bottles of gas for mig welding and mig wire also.👌
Never knew what that place was, thanks for the info Callum
Modern inverter welders & 1.6mm rods can weld thin material!
You should get some tip dip to stop the splatter from from building up on the shroud and disturbing the gasflow
Boom!
So far so good on the trator love ya vids
Would it look odd if you painted the wheels but left the bonnet and frame in original?
Brilliant Adrian, really enjoyed that. Best of luck with the new welder. Video was worth waiting for. 👍
Practice makes perfect. Use some scrap metal to get your welder setup so you don't blow a hole threw the piece you want to weld.
definitely get the starter fixed because spurious parts for massy don’t last nowadays same with the dynamo
I’d leave it you can’t buy patina and it tells its history as well the tin work is very straight which would make me want to keep it original more, but at the end of the day it’s your tractor and do what makes you happy, great vid as always 👍
