I'm bird banding in my backyard in the north of Sweden. It's extremely thrilling when catching one from another ringer. Once we caught a brambling from Belgium.
Floradale PS here: Grade 5 class is asking "Why birds need to be banded?", How will you collect the bands? Why do you need a license? Where do you get a license?
More Questions from Floradale: What happens to the lag if it is eaten by another bird, or animal? Do you band robins and blue jays? How do band a eagle, owl or hawk without losing your face?
Excellent question regarding what happens if the bird is consumed by another bird. Surprised WRDSB cannot answer this question as it is obviously a concern that must have been considered.
As a researcher (bander) on park service property, permitted researchers have to follow the guidelines set forth by the institutions/land owners. In my case since i work at a college in NY, i had to follow not only guidelines set forth by the national park service, but also by the college , during the pandemic.

Nice demo. Would you keep your net so high if there was no snow on the ground?
Never tried a potter trap. Do you make them yourself?
Do other birds get scared away when you are banding?
The mask in the middle of the woods is very ridiculous.
