Really liked the interviewer’s technique there, very respectful, encouraging and reflective towards Mark, great job from her
She’s the best . Why can’t Rachel replace radzi?
She's not diverse enough @xplaybwoix
@@xplaybwoix yep Rachel is excellent and Radzi is just clueless! How he has that job I’ll never know!
@@TomGur147such a glaring mystery. I wonder why.................
I was thinking the same!
I’ve never been a huge Selby fan but I respect him a lot and have grown to appreciate him. He is an all time great no doubt and he is a massive asset to the game! I really hope he doesn’t retire as he has plenty more to give but also wish him the best and to ultimately do whatever makes him happy.
He gets way too much stick for his playing style or whatever but he is one of the greats. He’s one of the few players that isn’t intimidated by Ronnie, and beating him in a world final speaks volumes. Like, he deserves more respect that he gets.
@@rsb8380well said
100% mate. I have crucified him watching him play on the TV over the years! But he seems a decent bloke and like you say he is a legend of the sport. Might of never been fun to watch, But in his prime he is up there with the greats, Probably the best safety game of any player to pick up a cue and he's definitely the best at getting snookers when needed. All if which are key elements of the game, Just not as exciting to the casual fan maybe as the Break building of Ronnie or hendry. I've personally over the years as I take the game more seriously and I play a bit learnt to appreciate all aspects. But good luck to him.
@@LFCJOEM your words r true like I also admire & follow his style of game & it's improved my game a lot . He is a legend player & top player of snooker so every one should support him in his tough times as his wife suffering from cancer so I hope he will come back soon.
Come on Mark.. You are all ready a legend.
Stay strong. We love you champ!
He's a muppet
@@brianboeing9799 A muppet with 4 world championships to his name
Has Slowby finished yet? I fell asleep
Love is a bit strong but great player and hopefully he finds some form.
@@santorini8423oh come on stop falling asleep this is why you failed school as well!
He and Mark Williams are the most coolest, humble and hilarious at some point snooker players in the current circuit. Always showing the good side of them despite being defeated at their worst
Ronnie is also very humble in defeat
He has always been gracious in defeat, an excellent characteristic
Except when Ronnie beat him in that semi a few years back.
Really? Because it seems like he’s sulking and threatening to retire just because he’s not been winning. Seems pretty childish to me.
Hate him too much to let him retire. I'd prefer him to stay and not win anything again
Yeah he's not my favourite player to watch but he's a gentleman and takes defeat like a man.
@@davidlane147you're projecting
I think his childhood traumas have caught up with him. I come from a very similar background. Brought up by my father and mother was ill post-natal depression and didn't see her until in my mid-20s, then only very sporadically. When you're young you're very busy and tend to gloss over childhood and it doesn't linger in your mind and affect you. As you get into your 40s, you start to think about life as a whole, you start to feel more mortal and think deeper thoughts. Selby is a truly nice guy with a great family and is a snooker legend whatever happens going forward.
Keep going, Mark. Snooker is a much better place with you in it. Pure class
Snooker is a much more boring place with you in it. So please go ahead and retire.
Just defence more offence player.

Hope hes ok, hes a good man, met him at the crucible once and was a top bloke
He's a lot going on off the table with his wifes health, how can anyone concentrate fully with that, he's a class act hes just been distracted
Mark is a fantastic snooker player, a gentleman and definitely one of the all time greats. I hope to see him back after he’s had time to reflect.
Sad to hear he might retire. The Mark Selby haters will be pleased though but I would miss Selby, would be a sad day for snooker I know how he feels I've played crap many times. He's obviously struggling and has issues off the table if he retires like him or hate him in my opinion it would be a sad day.
I am definitely a fan of Ronnie O;Sullivan, but I don't hate any of the players who have won against him, including Mark Selby! It is, at the end of the day, just a game, even though players do get paid for winning, and I suppose for many that is their main, if not only, source of income. I hope Mark will take it easy, relax, find a hobby he truly enjoys, and then come back to the table in a new season, refreshed and raring to go.
Im not a fan of Selby, but he has always been a major threat to all players, he would leave a big gap if he retires, hope he does not..
Thank you @@SoniListon-lu4cn
I've never been his fan, don't like his playing style, so you'll probably call me a "Selby hater", but if he really retired at his 40 being World №5 I'll be sad. Mark always has been a great competitor, tough opponent, big champion and just a nice guy and I don't see any of young guys who could take his place.
Absolutely the most difficult player to play against and always raises his game. Hope he doesn't retire tbh
Not a fan of his but really feel for him as he said before he struggles with his mental health as I do. Remember, be nice to people, you don't know what they are going through. Mental health issues affect anyone has nothing to do with status or money. Keep going Mark 🙂

Mark always speaks very openly and honestly. He’s a great ambassador for snooker and a brilliant role model.
Too good to retire mark, fight on mate, mark williams did, you can too
not that simple, he never was anywhere near Williams' level
@@vacantplanetyour joking aren’t you 😂 I’m not mark selby’s biggest fan but at his very best he beats mark williams very best, he’s won more triple crown events more world championships more century breaks all being 9 years younger, selby is a top 5 player of all time williams is a top ten
Are you feeling alright.? Mark Williams was another level. He came with two of the greatest players the game has ever produced (Ronnie & John Higgins), after Steven Hendry. His competition was much harder, & he achieved much more at a much younger age than Selby. Williams beat the best when they were in their prime. I like Selby, but he was never ANYWHERE NEAR the same league/level as Mark Williams, regardless of the number of World championships, saying otherwise proves you know nothing about snooker. Williams at nearly 50yrs old is still playing & winning (without a lot of practice), because he is just ridiculously talented/another level. Where as Selby has been struggling for some time now. Williams is/was a different level, & trying to put Selby in his league is an absolute Insult to Williams.!
@@coeurdelion484 they are 5th and 6th best of all time. Which way around you have them is open to debate, but it’s ludicrous to claim Selby is in a different league to Williams
@@coeurdelion484 Selby at his very best would be destroyed by very best Williams something like 10:4 in two session match. Reason why Williams has won less is that he never been as consistent as Selby. So Selby might be top 5 with numbers (also not, it's Ronnie, Stephen, John, Steve and Judd) But he'll never be anywhere near to Williams with his game level.
This may sound a little odd, but Mark really needs to have a conversation with Ronnie. I appreciate that they have not been the best od buddies, but then neither were Ronnie and Mark Allen until Mark knocked on Ronnie's dressing room door and asked for his advice on losing weight. Look at Mark Allen now ... Similar with Gary Wilson who sought Ronnie's advice and was not turned away.
Mark Selby is going through a rough patch that Ronnie has navigated many times in the past. Mark is far too good a player to call it a day and I'm convinced that a good conversation with Ronnie would be very helpful. It's worth a try ??
Mark is too nice to burden himself on others, but I agree Ronnie, would give him some much needed perspective. Can't see Mark being any happier as a postman or working in an office. Maybe needs a reality check and to be told he is blessed to be so good at a sport and needs to chill and appreciate it.
@@blackporscheroadster-yw8hb but shouldn't he be a millionaire by now?

I think he will retire. Hope he doesn't but he's struggled with his mental health in recent times and if he isn't enjoying competitive snooker, you can only imagine how it's making him feel. Great champion and great player!
If only if people meditate 15 minutes a day for a few years 97% of mental health cases with simply go away.. but as you know that is no good for making loads of money for big medical corporations.. say no more than that in the last 4 years...💯🇬🇧🇯🇲👍

This man will retire in about 10 years with at least 2 more world championships
Well I really hope he can win at least one more world title, but he's struggling at the moment.
I wish you well, Mark. Whatever you choose to do. 👍
I hope Mark keeps going. Win or lose always a pleasure to see him playing the game.

@@vacantplanetexactly but not good for TV viewing, no-one wants wants watch that.
@@vacantplanet he isn't slow he just has a good tactical game. The blokes had more centuries than most of the tour. Your just watching his safety exchanges.
He's a crier..aww Vicky..
@jamesandmikey32 You're missing the point. The tactical aspect is not the issue, it's the insufferable amount of time he occasionally takes before he plays a shot. Usually happens when his back is up against the wall, so clearly an exponent of the darks arts.
Great bloke. Love his integrity! All the best, Mark.
I will do Prayer for Him today with concentration and love

The pundits earlier were saying he seemed upbeat behind the scenes but how many people with depression put on a face and look ok but hurting like crazy inside. To win the worlds 4 times with his issues is quite remarkable and could he have gone on to get to 7 like Stephen and Ronnie had he not had depression. That said look at the change in players when interviewed after they win a major.
Tough day, you're still the man Mark.
Absolute champion, I hope things improve for you mate
I am a neutral fan outside UK. My sincere support and blessings to Selby. Hope he handle his issue and get back his form and find enjoyment in the game soon.
Selby youngster in snooker terms these days be surprised if he retired. But only get the one life no point suffering when u don’t have to
mark good luck in what you do you are a great snooker player stay strong
Even though I don't like Selby (playing wise), I hope he pulls through...he's an excellent player
I know that feeling, it's really strangling. I really hope he finds that enjoyment of competing again, that used to define him as a player.
Mark needs to speech to ronnies helpers chin up mark and ask for ronnies help ❤️
If he retired now/soon it would be a mistake. Too early. Much like Hendry retired too early and now had too much of a break to really get anywhere again. Once you are out of that rythm for too long there is probably no way back to the top.
When they stop playing they lose their competitive edge and like Hendry, they never get it back.
Take it on the chin Mark, sometimes you need these blips to remind you it’s not as plain sailing as one thinks. Plenty of others for you to win👌👍
Wow, that would be a huge loss. Hopefully he has a good break and can come back to play. But if not, all power to you Mark Selby. You're a great player and hopefully you can enjoy the next phase of your life.
Enjoy life thats the main thing. Best wishes to Mark and his lovely family
Good luck mate
Selby very gentleman in this world, very nice person!
Such an incredible talent. I do hope he overcomes this. Mark would be sorely missed!
Stop beating yourself up mate, go seek help. Hes mentioned before about his mental health and you can hear and see it. All the best in the futute mark
I hope we will see you next year
This man has immense dignity and grace, as well as being a phenomenal player. It was a hard beat after a poor season, but he conducted himself like a true gentleman.
You can find that help Mark…Please don’t go….
stay strong mark. take six months off. rest up man its a mentally challenging game. one of the best ever.
No matter which player you support, the game needs its best players to create great rivalries and drama and Mark is one of the best. So let's hope he can sort things out and come back stronger than ever.
Irrespective of your decision Mark, we love you x
Maybe do a Ronnie and take 12 months off rather than a straight up retirement then if he feels he can do something in the game afterwards, then continue, if not, then do something else.
He isn't Ronnie though. If he stays out of competitive games for a year, he is dead and buried
Top 6-7 player of all time. One thing is for sure all those people doubting o'sullivan and the drain top level snooker puts upon players is real. He looks mentality ready to call it a day and thats worrying as possibly the gritiest player of all time. Success doesn't breed happiness. Hopefully he finds what makes him happy snooker is just a game ask any top player selby has one thing that separates the great from the elite big bollocks. Get well soon
Selbs is a machine, just not in form at the moment. Maybe a break is a good thing but I wouldn't put the cue down indefinitely
One of the greatest. I hope he can get back to his best. I think he could get to 6 or 7 given his age.
Mark is a great ambassador for the game. An honest guy and an amazing talent. Whether he chooses to retire or not, he'll be remembered as a great. Don't ever neglect your health Mark, if it's really getting you down step away I say, you've earnt enough over the course of your career
Sta attraversando un brutto momento ma e sempre forte. Batterlo e sempre difficile se è al meglio.
Hopefully He doesn’t retire just yet as he’s still one of the best, but if he decides to do so he deserves all the best and happiness ❤
Not the biggest Selby fan but no one can deny the greatness this man has achieved and I think is one of the most underrated players in snooker bc every aspect of his game is sensational, hope he doesn’t retire. Might not play the most attacking game at times but the idea he is just boring is a complete myth, great for the sport
4 time world champion . One of the all time greats.
And only 40 years old. He can reach Davis or maybe even Hendry
brave and honest man
He looks exhausted
Come on Selby , brake the shackles and start attacking stop second guessing ur own game , advantage to the brave that take it on , stop fearing defeat , and just go for it , and start enjoying the freedom of don’t give a shite about wat others will think of you , 💪👍
I really hope mark can find his love for the game again, a great champion, great player
mark your a credit to your profession mate. God bless you vicki and your we daughter. i lost my we sister to leukaemia last year at 39. never smoke or drank in her life. i’m 44 i’ve watched you for years sometimes hard with the amount of time it takes for you to hit a shot lol 😂. but just know vicky played for our irish pool team. we all have your back. god bless you’s stay strong have a break and keep the chin up mate. Great sportsmanship
Burning out. Ronnie been warning about it for years.
even performers of Selby's level can benefit from an extended time away from the game. His class as a player will always be there.
Selby good player
Absolute legend.
The reporter is awesome. Well done
Whatever you do mate god bless ya mate
Second best player i have ever seen. Sport is not everything Mark, take a break or retire if you need to. You have achieved enough, and the game will be here if you want to come back to it.
Isn’t it crazy the mental side of the game.. he even knows himself he’s playing too defensively but still plays that way
He's too good and has alot more to give he shouldn't retire what a legend great player
Still a force in Snooker, I hope he carries on. He's a lovely bloke too.
Find a way Mark!
v gracious in defeat - that shows what an amazing character he has, Pls selby continue forever - just a small hiccup.
It'd be a shame to see a player so talented walk away from the game. His style might not be the most exciting to watch, but you can't deny his ability! Hopefully he can take some time off, work on the things he needs to, find that enjoyment again and come back stronger! Good luck Mark!
A class act
I think Ronnie is the one who can help Mark to become a quicker, instinctive and a more laid-back player, do some practice matches for fun at a faster pace, and I think after some time Mark's gameplay would be more enjoyable.
And it's not like Ronnie wouldn't benefit from them too - I hope "Being like Djokovic to beat Selby" means to keep your game at the highest possible standard.
If you are a Ronnie fan, think that EACH his opponent has contributed to his victories, and the greater was the obstacle - the greater was HIS growth and thus success. Mark Selby is one of the greatest obstacles.
Nicely done Rachel and great to point out the Mark Williams example ... he is struggling inside though isn't he? Hope you can get past whatever is causing the demons Mark
Absolute Granite at the table .. the one man who could always get in O Sullivans head
Hard as Nails
Good luck to him
He got in Ronnie's head because he plays the most boring snooker ever throw back to cliff thorburn ov old Selby snooker Ronnie would say hope he goes
Imagine when these top players retire Shelby, Williams, Higgins, O’Sullivan etc sad times
I have never overly liked Mark Selby and I can't say I enjoy watching him play but for sure he shouldn't retire. The simply truth is that he is one of the greatest players of all time and if he carries on all he needs is a few wins and he's back enjoying the game again. He's far too good to retire.
Really good interviewer 👍🏻
Stay strong Mark, the game needs you! Anytime you fancy a game of golf but want to beat someone - I'm available.
Mark has at least another world title in him maybe 2. Keep
Going mark snooker needs you
Retire? He's not had his best season but still 11th on this season's list - ahead of e.g, Murphy(22), Robertson(36), Brecel(37) - and he's still won £381,000 and is 5th on main ranking. Most pro's can only dream of doing so well!
RIP 🙏 Selby
Some players peak and go to the top of the summit but it’s a short fall down and hard to get back. He’s had is day. He will go play pool it’s massive in China
Vicky will want to keep Bank Balance Full, return next season.Under Thumb 😢😢
Vicky is sick, she has cancer,
I doubt Mark will retire. No sportsman finds it easy to quit because the live for the competion and notoriety.
Forever big 4 in my heart, actually it`s not bad decision to retire now. I heard health problems happened on him and his wife, it`s the time to transfer all attention from snooker to family. hope him and his wife to recover from anything struggling now and look forward to a stronger comeback. Big big loss if he retires permanently
I think if he plan to retire then i'm gonna stop watching snooker, the pure and classic thinker shouldn't loose hope and carry on with courage as he did in the past to bocome the world champion ❤
i dont think his style of play is many peoples cupof tea but there is no doubt he is a snooker legend, with his achievements is it 4 world titles? and other triple crown wins puts him up there ith the best of all time. He is going through a rough spell but im sure he will be back winning again in time. i would be beyond shocked if he retired.
Mark, take sometime for yourself, after your problems off the table you need to. You will come back a stronger person. I think you will win a world again. For off the table reasons, your mind wasn't on it this year, and that is fine too.
I've never been a Selby fan but it's very strange and sad to hear about retirement from such a champion when he's only 40 and a top five player in the world. Can't remember any great who retires at that age being a top player. Of course if the game not enjoy him anymore then it's his decision, but I think he should work on this moment and come back next season. Sure he could play good snooker for at least 5 seasons more.
If you decide to retire from playing snooker you will havr achieved your goals of triple crown events world snooker championship masters and the uk championship. You are one of the all time greats who played brilliantly all over the world. Good luck mark i hope you find another sport that interests you.
