  • WR963 Avro Shackleton engine run at Coventry airport on the 27th November 2021. Engine 1 & 2 fired up like a dream, 3 & 4 decided to be stubborn but after a stern talking to they also roared into life, enjoy the sound of 4 Rolls Royce Griffon engines running.
    Thanks for watching.

Hopefully in the next few years if all goes well she'll be airworthy again

The WR963 on 8Sqn was not an AEW Aircraft but one of 2 which remained unmodified and used for Pilot Training. Therefore it could have been one of those previously mentioned. It’s all a bit long ago and I am now 80.
After many Years of searching I found the Revell Kit of the AEW.2, 1:72 Scale. That was a couple of Years ago and since it is Level5 I haven’t found the Nerve to build it (and now probably never will !).

@@nicholassiminson2699 WR963 is in full AEW.2 fit as per here use when retired from 8 Squadron in to Coventry.

@@VulcanBomberxm655 THAT (the Aircraft shown in the Video) is NOT an ex-8Sqn Shackleton ! I served on 8Sqn for 8 Years. NONE of 8Sqn Shackletons had Guns in the Nose (or anywhere else for that Matter). Someone is getting a bit mixed-up (and it’s not me).

@@VulcanBomberxm655 AEW2 Aircraft had a huge Bulge under the Nose, where is it ? The “Bulge” is the Radome (inherited from the FAA AEW Gannet) I also served in the FAA for 3 Years + 105 Days. AEW = Airborne Early Warning !

How many Shackletons with the Registration Number WR963 are there ? This is the second one I’ve seen lately !
    I served on 8Sqn for 8 Years and we had a WR963 as well ! Something’s not right !
Another Video for “Hangar Pilots” but very nostalgic for me. Thank you

That's a really interesting question, had no idea about a 2nd (or more) shack with the same reg, I'll see what I can find out

You had the same one. WR963 served for 20 years prior to 8 Sqn, the colours she wears currently are her own from 1954.
When reassembled at Elvington, she'll be going back into 8 Sqn's colours though.

Ah Ha ! That’s interesting. I still have some Shackleton Parts in my Shack + some from much older AC.

@@biggles19821 on 8Sqn we had two AC which were not converted to the AEW Roule but were used for Flying Training, 63 must have been one of them. I can’t remember all of the Reg Numbers, it’s now rather a long Time ago !

@@nicholassiminson2699 No, she;s an AEW under the paint, we just took the 'dome off to fake the earlier look.
      I think the T2's were WL801 and WL798..
