I went here last year and found it strange why some escalators were Otis and some were ThyssenKrupp. I'm guessing the reason ThyssenKrupp decided to replace them and not upgrade them was because it may have been cheaper to do so as ThyssenKrupp's escalator and lift sector was struggling financially at the time and there were even talks of a merger with KONE which never went ahead, so they were probably offering dirt cheap quotes to building owners to stay in business.
Quite possibly but then I think that was only in the Covid - and slightly post-covid period whereas the first 2x were done in 2018. I wonder if there was a manufacturing fault in some of them perhaps, but you could be right. Either way the Otis escalators feel better here even though they’re only the 506 NCE commercial grade type whereas the Tugela is TKE’s lighter heavy duty type… Unfortunately with all of the main brands it seems the current escalator products are not as well made as some of the previous types. I think they peaked in the 1990s and early 2000s. 🙂
