For Sophia to be able to rip off 26 letters that fast is astonishing. There are 46 basic syllables for the sounds in the Japanese language based off of the 5 vowels. a,i,u,e,o. Ah, ee, ooh, eh, oh. So most of the syllables are the consonants with a vowel. Ka, ki, ku, ke, ko, na, ni, nu, ne, no, ma, mi, mu, me, mo... etc. The Japanese characters are the syllables she is pronouncing. Clever and surprising. This is my favorite song of the year. And for me, a wonderful introduction to Sophia.

Both your praise and criticism I agree with. You got me beat with age because I just turned 40, but I don’t think it’s a generational thing. However, I have a question: do you like Metallica? I ask because a band that has exploded over the past year or two, and has become my favorite band, has been described as a mix between Metallica and heavier bands like Lamb of God or Gojira. If you like those bands, I’ll suggest some songs. I’ve yet to see a rock/metal reactor not end up making some of the most shocked faces and needing more. Or, if you like, I could suggest a band that will leave you laughing and every reactor has loved…and that’s not hyperbole.

Japanese doesn’t have an alphabet, but you’re basically right. It’s a syllabary, one of two that Japanese has, called hiragana.
