Madeleine's skirt was great, except, you run the string through the whole skirt, through the holes you made. The grommets just keep the holes reinforced. You can still just run that string through the skir'ts waistline without using the grommets, because the holes might now be a smidge too large for the grommets. The bathrobe curls do work! it has a lot to with the technique, and how tight you are wrapping the curls. If your wrapping is loose, the curls will be loose. For those who want to try the hack, damp hair will help make wrapping easier as there is less frizz. Also, try using a holding product in your hair to help keep the curls in. It does work! it just requires a little practice!

  • @hopeykins
    @hopeykins 4 ปีที่แล้ว

Erin - You section the hair into four. Two front sections, two back sections. You also start on wet or damp hair. Start with the front section and start at the top, you had the twisting part ok. Use a smaller pony tail holder for that section. Take the back section of the same side and twist it around towards the FRONT of your head (so opposite of how you twisted the front section). You should have two sections of hair twisted around one side of your belt. Secure the bottom and do the same on the other side. Doing it like that should help it from unraveling and having your hair wet or damp will let it dry in the curls.

For the curling one, put the robe on your head split your hair in half. On the first side, start wrapping the front of your hair backwards around the tie and adding more one you get all the way around until you get to your ear then start the back section going forward adding more each time around. While you are wrapping the back pieces continue to wrap the front pieces backwards. Front piece back, back piece forward, add hair to back piece, repeat. That way you are wrapping the hair in opposite directions around the tie. Then when you put the scrunchie in to hold it, it stays. I shower at night and did this the second night for day two hair. Added a little dry shampoo first and then wrapped it. My hair was dry before I wrapped and with a little hairspray, it stayed all day! Ps. My hair does not hold a curl from an iron AT ALL!

Erin, with the tie you should wrap and hold the hair very tight, make sure your spray with water a bit/helps to have the hair a bit damp, tying it with a clip at the end may be easier if you're finding it hard with a hair tie. I wore a scarf on it tightly to keep everything in place and left it overnight and it totally worked! So many people on TH-cam have also tried it.

The robe tie is a call back to rag curls, which was done for curls back before heating irons were readily available or even a thing. It works.
I also used to just curl my own hair on itself sans robe tie (think like a two strand french braid), sleep on it, or wear it as a hair style, and it worked like a charm.

So after watching people actually doing the robe tie curls I think where Erin went wrong is she tried to do an actual French braid rather than just a French twist, which uses two strands rather than three. I hope she gives it another try, I feel like she has got the PERFECT hair for this hack if she can make it work. It's so long and pretty and shiny.

Erin, you’re supposed to do it with damp hair. Tension is everything. I’ve done it multiple times and it works. I was doing this hack in my early teens (2010 ish) and it worked every single time.

For the rope hack it does work it just you have to have your hair damp NOT WET/DRY, then rap it around the rope by taking small sections, then adding little by little to the sections(you don't have to be a master at braiding to do this), secure with hair bands on the ends but to make it tight twist the "robe braids" and tie two left over ends on robe on top of your head. This will make tight curls over night.

For the bath robe, make sure you dampen your hair a little bit! Also you need to make the French braids tighter or it isn’t going to work. This is my go-to method for heatless beach waves!

Erin, just regular braid it. The section before the robe, robe, then the other side of the robe. And do that on each side of your head.

For restringing the sweatshirt, you can use any piece of tin metal or wire, like a hanger. Tie the string to one end, thread the wire(hanger) through the shirt by pulling all of the fabric onto it, then just pull the wire and string through.

I think the reason why the curling hair hack didn’t work is because the way you were wrapping the hair was wrong. Idk if you were already doing this but after you wrap the first piece around you should grab another piece with the piece you already wrapped and wrap it again, and keep adding hair until all your hair is wrapped and twisted. Make sure when you wrap your pieces, to wrap the full 360.

Love the idea, not sure I can get past the wrong use of wack/whack...
Whack is a noun and a verb that means a hit and to hit. Wack is a slang adjective that means unusual or bad.

  • @clairrose9811

It’s actually not impossible at all to curl your hair. First of all you have to wrap it correctly and have your hair damp. The reasoning behind this is you have hydrogen bonds in your hair that are broken by water so as it dries it will reform into the new shape you have it. Wet styling actually stays longer and can’t be brushed out all that well because you reformed your hydrogen bonds temporarily and it can only be undone once again by water. Wet styling was very common back in the day and is still used to help hold up do’s in hair.

If you ever need to rethread your string in your sweats just use a safety pin in the end so you have something to grip and push thru the fabric 🙂 my mom has always done it that way and it’s super easy!

The easiest way to thread the tie through the entire band of the red sweatshirt skirt is to put a safety pin at the end of the string and then thread it through the band.

  • @galli0

    On Erins,
    1. Dampen you hair slightly with a mister/spray bottle
    2. then section it with a middle part, and then split that in two if you have a lot of hair
    3. When you wrap it you have to wrap the bit of hair fully once around before you add more hair in on the next time around.
4.Try not to twist the tie as that will make it more likely to curl back.
I love you Erin, but your version here looked like he before in an infomercial

for the hair hack you have to twist the hair around the robe and then add more hair as you go like a french braid! This keeps the hair tight around the robe. And then tie it up into buns!! I also did it with damp hair and slept in it overnight and it works great!

The robe curls work! I’ve done them! Also, if you have short hair, use a sock (like one that goes a couple inches above the ankle). I used to robe and it worked, but it was just really long and my hair is short so I didn’t need the extra length. The socks are great

The robe belt hack will work but you have to make sure you wrap your hair going in both directions on each side of your hair so that it keeps it from unraveling (for example, if you're curling your hair away from your face you need to have a piece from the back that is curling towards your face).

  • @sydneym.7023
    @sydneym.7023 4 ปีที่แล้ว

Erin, I think there's a certain way to wrap the hair around the robe belt. You almost have to hold one piece straight down and then twist the other price around once, then hold the one you just wrapped around straight down and then wrap the other one around, then straighten that piece and repeat.. if that makes sense.... Lol

erin, she didn't French braid the hair. she literally just twisted it. also, why wouldn't a robe tie work to curl hair? it's the exact same idea as using paper towels, socks, or any other heatless curlers. you are missing wet hair at the beginning

Erin! I Kinda curl my hair like that all the time, but I use a wide hairband(about the same as the robe tie).
1, damp your hair, a little, to much and it wont dry in the twist.
2, then you just take each strand and curl/twist around the band, no hairties/braiding needed. The hairband holds it all in place. You put the hairband like the tennis player Björn Borg used to (Google it, you will see why I used that reference).
Good luck, I hope that helps. Haha Wish I could send you pictures! I love this hack, it works and is so freaking Quick and easy if you wash your hair before bed and wait until its like 95% dry until you do the twists. It kind of becomes like if you had rolled your hair like they did in the 50’s, it holds for days(!!), I don’t even have to touch it up between washes and get comments all the time. By day 3 it looks more like a blow out, but who is mad about that?!
Love you guys and love this video! Thank you for keeping it up even in quarantine!

Erin~~ it's called "rag curls" they were used in the 18th century I think (during Jane Austen's time)... you can look it up and try again~~ you have to wrap your hair down the rag and when you've reached the end, you use the rag to wrap the hair going up. The curls will look great if you leave them in over night~
