As somebody that crochet for a living, I can tell you that the middle is definitely the cutest, but #3 is the softest and most comfortable. That being said: I would still wear the green over the lighter one 😂
a lot of people put down the acrylic blend because they “feel cheaper” or they say they’re lower quality, but everything I’ve ever made that I actually wear are made with the acrylic blend yarns.
I’ve made a lot of $1 beanies for a little charity event. I would’ve spent more to make the beanies but I’m also quite poor so I did what I could afford lol. Nobody ever complained about the quality, they were all just happy and touched that I physically made things for them
The Dollar Store has more than just that one kind of yarns! I’ve seen a lot of things that ppl made out yarn from the DT N it’s turn out really good. If I can get name brand yarn’s at the DT I’m there,So far I have gotten Cotton,Blankets yarns N some acrylic. It’s just as if I was getting them on sale it not bad $1.25 for 109 or 120yards
I loved the first one. There's no reason to pay more than a couple of dollars for something like that. You can get two skeins of yarn from DT and make a more comfortable, stretchy one like the $10 one but at only 1/4 of the price.
You can get the same shape and fit of the second one at 1/4 of the price if you buy two skeins of yarn from DT. idk why she didn't do that, but I guess she was just showing the difference between the amount of yarn you get from one skein and ar what price. IMO there's no justifiable reason to pay $50 for a skein of yarn. I just about had a heart attack when she said she paid that much and more for adding something else in with it! 😮
@scootermom1791 working at a yarn store, that super bulky yarn is extremely popular - it's Malabrigo Rasta. It averages $34 (CAD before tax) for 100g skein. I imagine the $50 is from adding the silk mohair lace yarn, which, didn't see the brand, but we've got 5 different brands and they average for $11 for 25g ball.
As cosy as the $50 one looks, the $10 one was my favourite, look the colour, love the look, love the the fit 😁 Also, not sure if you're still doing the crocheting with everything but yarn series, but I would love to see what you would come up with using towels, scoubidous, plastic bags or elastic (as in the long strips you would use for making waistbands, hair ties, etc)
@@romystumpy1197Same here. I absolutely hate red heart for this real. Also, I feel like they have the ugliest colors. You can make them softer by bathing it in fabric softener
Acrylic yarn double or tripled up makes a really warm hat. My mom and I made something like 30 or 35 of them last year and donated them all to homeless shelters. We made some of them extra long so that on the -40° nights, they could be rolled down to cover the face
@@cree_VI: I watched another TH-camr coordinate a project making hats for the homeless. He recommended a yarn that was at least partially synthetic because of issues washing and drying wool. The other thing he strongly recommended was staying away from brightly coloured yarns because a lot of homeless people don't want to draw attention to themselves. You are correct, though, that wool is a better insulator than synthetics.
When i first started crocheting my mom tough tme how to do a chain. I had nothing to do that day and got carried away. 3 hours late i had 18ft of just chain stiches. I still have it :D

I think she or my mom were making an afghan with the yarn, and thought I might like to help, but I was useless beyond the chain at the time (honestly, but much better now, but I try lol)
As a crocheter- that premier brand dollar store yarn is GREAT. It’s not silly like Caron, but it’s way better than red heart and just like Joann store brand. It’s 10/10 to me
I usually work with red heart cus it's budget friendly, the comfort is a Lil more expensive than other options but it's VERY soft for acrylic. Loops n threads is usually quite soft as well tbh. Wool I recently bought some lion brand and tbh it's a LITTLE scratchy but the person I'm making the gift for wanted to phase out synthetic fibers in their wardrobe... and I can't exactly make a winter scarf out of cotton lmao.
I love loops and threads! It doesn't cost too much and Michaels gets a lot of deals! It comes in a ton of colors and feels very versitile! (I do amigurimi rather than clothes so color matching is really important to me)
It's probabaly because of the pattern. It results in a thick fabric which I don't think suits a double brim well. I also would have liked to see more intricate crown shaping for the more expensive beanie.
I like acrylic yarn because it holds its shape so well for my hat projects. I go through feeling all the yarn though so I know what I'm grabbing isn't offensive to touch and I also line them with satin. 😊
Effort, skill and thought. It's about getting the pattern, the colours and the yarn weight and structure all to work together to produce the right end result.
I honestly love the premier brand dollar store yarn! I’ve made many things with it and have had zero issues. In my opinion, it’s just as good as most of the big brands!
I have to tell you, I love that yarn from The Dollar Tree. But I agree that those mini skeins are too small, but I get that exact yarn in full size skeins from the company, and they are the same price, by yardage, if not, cheaper when on sale. It is Premium, which is a nice yarn. My favorite value yarn. I have never had Premium acrylic yarn that is scratchy. I do not spend $50 on any yarn, so I am not comparing it to whatever you bought, I am judging it on its own accord, and by other value yarns.
i made a great little fluttershy plush out of the fuzzy dollar store yarn, and it was *amazing*. better than bernier or any other expensive brand i had used at that point, no fuzz bits falling out or anything!!
As someone who is probably a little allergic to wool, I def feel like I've been *shamed* by at least one yarn store clerk for using acrylic. Like yes, I'd love to use the more eco-friendly (but also more expressive stuff), but I A don't want to be itchy, and B don't want to gift people things that will be hard for them to care for. We still have afghans from my great grandma that were probably made with "whatever's cheap," and that doesn't make them less precious to us (and we certainly don't hate how easy they are to wash!).
Screw that person, use what you want. People who look down on others for using things don’t actually care about the thing they stand for, they just have a superiority complex and they work and a yarn store. I’m pretty sure they get people buying acrylic all the time, if they can handle that, they’re in the wrong business.
I will say cotton or bamboo yarn might be an option. I mean you do you and whatever is best to manage your allergies - but if you wanted to branch out to a natural fiber or something very soft (I always think bamboo is quite silky) they might be worth a look.
Choosing brands and textiles more mindfully would afford you both comfort and luxury. In my experience, combining a strand each of alpaca and mohair knits up into wonderfully soft and warm winter accessories. At one ball of each for a beanie, I would typically spend around $25, or 20 GBP (my LYS primarily stocks Rowan). Not quite as cheap as a Uniqlo beanie, but made with fibres harder to get at cheap retail prices.
Personally i like the 10 best! But the 50 reminds me so much of a winter accessory from the Littlest Pet Shop wii game that came out in 2008. I used to loveeee that game
The want and need are two different things. Everyone wants a warm, soft luxurious beanie, but at fifty dollars a pop for the yarn plus labor, most people can’t afford that, even if they know how to crochet. So what I did was get two skeins of the cheap stuff and crochet it myself my head still stay warm. one of my favorite things to do for the holidays is buy a ton of the 1$ premier yarn from dollar tree and make beanies for all my friends with my knitting machine. The first thing I ever made was a potholder for my grandmother out of acrylic yarn it was blue with silver sparkle in it with a hot pink border, it was wonky and misshapen and she used it! When she passed I took it back, I still have it to this day, it's burnt and blackened and a bit melted in places but I love that she used it and I love seeing it in my drawer though I don't use it, I just love knowing that she loved it and remembering her and what she meant to me. 🥰🥰
