great job and nice bass,subbed....btw Ampeg just released a "liquifier" sounds incredible for altern rock 70/80,im getting one,it's an analogue chorus.
On Elsie, for sure he's using a chorus effect. On Heart Telegraph it's not as obvious he might have a hint of chorus. But yeah, that's the secret to the post punk tone basically!
BTW I just put out another video using the Kaleidoscope plug in and I get a killer post punk bass tone using that as well! It just came out yesterday. Check it out!
Honestly I’ve tried $40 pedals that all do the job. Just get a cheap one to start snd find out what you like and don’t like about it. If your tone is already good then the pedal just adds that little somethin somethin… you know? Ps: You should come to the bass team live streams Saturday nights! We talk everything bass and play about 30 songs, learn some, it’s soooo fun! Www.twitch.tv/nickitedesco
Purple Chili Doesn’t matter at all! The action is related to how fast you can play and your general comfort and preference, but not much to the tone. Unless you want extreme buzzing and in that case it can play a factor, but in general it is not related.
I play guitar and have a baritone guitar and amusing octave effects for bass sounds and I really enjoy it. But I don't know if I can get it right. I should just get a fucking bass already
Lol, OR you are creating your own unique sound which is exactly what most players we love have done :) give it a try and just add a cheap chorus pedal!
@@NickiTedesco actually I do have a chorus pedal and have a bunch of pedals but long story short I have issues for some reason when I run my pedals everything sounds muddy. It may have been my amplifier. Doing a million things on little by little I mess with things here and there. But yes definitely I'm trying to have my own thing with the baritone in goth/wave music cause baritone guitars all metal
In the description are all the songs. Here are the Siouxsie songs: This Unrest Lands End (both from the album Tinderbox 1986) Performed by Steven Severin
Post punk and new wave music made me pick up the bass guitar. Smiths, cure, the cars, the pretenders, the police, I could go on and on. These bands all had great songs but also the bass lines were always so interesting and busy. Almost like a song within a song
I have a Digitech BP50. I can apply Chorus and/or Flanger, but I don't know what to make of the settings I am seeing on your pedal. I understand that "adj. Intensity" probably refers to the overall level of the effect, but what do "hz. Speed" and "rel. Width" mean? Also, Gallup has said in interviews that his EQ shape is in the chevron shape, with bass and treble up high and mids down. Strangely, when I set up my amp that way, it doesn't give me what I'm looking for! Thanks very much, and keep up the good work.
It is hard to copy a players tone when you only have one piece of the puzzle! The SPEED and the WIDTH should be regarded as a set of controls rather than two individual. They both influence the apparent degree of effect. A good starting point when creating more "pleasant" sounds in any of the 3 effect modes is to keep the controls "generally opposite". If you want "out of pitch" sounds for special effects, the SPEED and WIDTH can be turned into the last third of their range. Adj INTENSITY has 3 different functions depending on the mode. In the CHORUS mode INTENSITY is a control for the "notching" depth of the chorus effect. I hope this helps!
Hello Greetings from YYC. Really well done, I would love to hear how you would use a BF-3 or a CE-5 on the stingray. Thank you, I am working on a record and you have inspired me to go back and listen to Killing Joke (Raven) and Simon Gallop for tone references.
JV Cooperative yes!! If you can pump up the treble that helps to engage the chorus and really cut through. Don’t CUT the bass level on the knobs just makes the relationship between them with MORE treble than bass. If that makes sense? Let me know! Happy new year!
Hi. I'm used to the Adam Nolly crushing/clanking bass tone ( Metalcore/Djent/Deathcore ). In order to get that sound, I use a very low action with thin picks ( .6 ) and a strong attack on the strings. In order to get that coldwave/post punk sound, how should I setup my bass ? Which action height ? What kind of pick ?
That’s good to know! I’ve found that it doesn’t really matter. I think the low action helps with the NOLLY tone because the lines are fast and interviste and you want that clank. But with t Post punk, the players that pioneered it were necessarily gear heads. Any bass, any action, any pick will work. I have noticed however that Steve Severin used a music man on occasion so that’s why I used it here. But my music man is by no means low action. :) I hope this helps. Long story short, you don’t need a special bass or setup, you just need a chorus pedal and you can get it done

I can’t believe I’ve never heard this band!!! Thank you for turning me into them!!
@@NickiTedesco Awesome!
I saw them back in the day a bunch of times when they toured in SoCal, the drummer is one of my hero's. I've been drumming since I was 4 and my dad was a bad ass bassist back in the day and I got into drumming by going to his bands rehearsals. Check out my old band Sixtieth Parallel...start with the song called Trust, crank the crap out of it too!
Amazing stuff..
God that tone, I need that tone
Thank youuuu!!!
Amazing bass sound.

Not the goth baddie I was looking for… but the one I NEEDED

willians Rincones I’m glad you liked it! I found out it’s no longer in production but there are others that have a pretty good response and sound great. Also I think they are making a newer similar model. Happy jamming!!
Steve Severin used double flanger and an oc2 qt the end though
He’s so badass
Take that gallup, hooky and David J
You’re not so bad yourself

Hello Nicki. I was introduced to you by Jeff over at #MHH. Thanks for joining my channel. Much appreciated. I returned the kindness. VIVA LIVE MUSIC!

how come you forgot Peter hook, wasn't he the one who stated that sound on the bass with the clone theory?
Edward M I love Peter Hook! I probably should do a video just dedicated to his sound.

Please do!!!

I can't seem to find that t. c. electronic stereo chorus pitch modulator & flanger anywhere online. weird :-( anyone who knows where to buy it. great video, and awesome sound btw.

I love playing Severin`s basslines and admire the way his sound advanced over the years.
Would have also been cool if you covered Will Heggie from Cocteau Twins - ;)
Omg I love him too!!!
I’ll have to check him out! I love Cocteau twins but never really checked out the bass deeply.
I’m so into post punk
One of my top favorite genres!
great job and nice bass,subbed....btw Ampeg just released a "liquifier" sounds incredible for altern rock 70/80,im getting one,it's an analogue chorus.
Pex I know! I’m hoping to do a review on that one soon!!
Great tone! Is this pedal specific for guitar? Greetings from Brazil.
Greetings!! Yes it actually is a guitar pedal! I love it for bass though. They have a reissue out right now that’s gold. So cool looking!!
Excellent!! I'm in love. :))
Glad you like it! you should join my patreon page, we have a monthly google hang out!
Nicki Tedesco i will check it out! :)
riffovlje awesome!!
Bravissima!!
antonio rollo thank you!!!
Greetings from France, good skill
Julien Lebourdais thank you!!
Ohhh... awesome! It will work well with synth bass too?
Haha always great stuff!
I wonder what your thoughts would be on what was used on these two tracks by the Aussie band Divinyls, Elsie and Heart Telegraph.
@@NickiTedesco on my way
@@jamestom2510 excellent!
Wow! I felt like I was back in Highschool again!
Good memories huh!!
Could you suggest another pedal effect like or similar the T. C.? Thank you
Honestly I’ve tried $40 pedals that all do the job.
Low action if I have to guess?
Purple Chili Doesn’t matter at all! The action is related to how fast you can play and your general comfort and preference, but not much to the tone. Unless you want extreme buzzing and in that case it can play a factor, but in general it is not related.
@@NickiTedesco Thanks for the response!! :D
@@purplechili2512 No prob!
Pretty good ☺️
Lovely bass. But I get a more authentic post punk/new wave sound out of my Clone Theory Stereo Chorus also my vintage Ibanez Flanger.
I’ve got to try those!!
What Siouxie and the Banshees songs did you play? I totally forgot now...
In the description are all the songs. Here are the Siouxsie songs:
This Unrest
Lands End
(both from the album Tinderbox 1986)
Performed by Steven Severin
Damn... I'm so observant... Sorry about that.
The Gothic Metalhead no worries man!!! Plus...Gothic metalhead? Love this name!
@@NickiTedesco thank you! That's because I love a lot of gothic metal
The Gothic Metalhead lol. That checks out! I don’t know why, but I’m just giggling so hard at this whole conversation! I love it!!
nice what color is that
Is like Clone theory original 79' pedal ? Thank's for post ...
I’ve never tried that one.
Post punk and new wave music made me pick up the bass guitar. Smiths, cure, the cars, the pretenders, the police, I could go on and on. These bands all had great songs but also the bass lines were always so interesting and busy. Almost like a song within a song
I know! I totally agree!! Thank you!!! Hey you should come to my live streams every Saturday! It’s a riot! 7pm PST!
What's the song at the start/opening the video? I love it!
That’s my original song called WHAT WHAT WHAT. You can get it off this album: nickitedesco.bandcamp.com/album/inside-your-wasteland-album
From memory, it was plenty of top, maximum compression, a pick, and scuffed hand from palm muting 😁
richard tofts good recipe!
@@NickiTedesco haha I was there, and that was what I did, anyway :-)
Nice!
Hello Greetings from YYC. Really well done, I would love to hear how you would use a BF-3 or a CE-5 on the stingray. Thank you, I am working on a record and you have inspired me to go back and listen to Killing Joke (Raven) and Simon Gallop for tone references.
Nothing about EQ?
JV Cooperative lol, nah... I already had the right eq by using the stingray. I try to get that out of the bass rather than a pedal.
@@NickiTedesco Any tips for someone not using a Stingray?
JV Cooperative yes!! If you can pump up the treble that helps to engage the chorus and really cut through. Don’t CUT the bass level on the knobs just makes the relationship between them with MORE treble than bass. If that makes sense? Let me know! Happy new year!
@@NickiTedesco Thanks,
Cool.
Thank you!
But with t
Post punk, the players that pioneered it were necessarily gear heads.
By the way she should come to my live streams on twitch because I do a lot of different tones and I explain how to get them all and I do demos and I play a bunch of songs and I love post punk! www.twitch.tv/nickitedesco
