I feel like someone who doesn’t play Dokkan or watch Nan0 will see this as a dumb thing to get sad about, but the people who do play Dokkan or has watched Nan0 for a very long time can understand how much this game does mean to him because y’know… It’s Dragon Ball! But this game helped Nan0 grow a fanbase who loves him very much.

I don’t think I changed the name, but might’ve. I find that the name change for others was a form of respect to you because of how people aspire to in a way be like you, like with the luck aspect for example. Sorry about this Nano!
I remember vividly during the 4th anniversary, as a joke I changed my name to nano along with a few of my friends. Summoned once on both banners and ended up pulling both SSJ4's. It was an absolutely wild time. Really sorry to hear about this man.

A friend of mine who works on linux said that depending of the way the game is build on the linux, the word nano might call functions and commands intended for editing text files of the games' database, so you are probably right about the ban on the word, still sucks to lose a name that you used for such a long time, it's like losing a piece of yourself

man nano I'm sorry, the bad thing is that it isn't your fault at all. I remember back in 6 year I changed my name to nano and got ssbe one hour before the banner went away. that is the only unit of anni that I pulled on their actual anni, it is my favorite pull to date. thank you
Nano was the person or content creator that made me download Dokkan and I still remember putting my name as Nan0 it's since been changed but still wonderful memories in mind✨
JP 3rd Anniversary. I play JP Dokkan since a liite before 1st anni, more precisely just before the AGL SSJ3 Goku Dokkan Fest release. And back in the day, i managed to NEVER pull the main units, insane bad rng there, many of my friends told me to reroll to "refresh" the luck, but I never was into that, one of the fun things in these gacha mobile games is to start with the first account and go on with that.
But in 3rd Anni, that changed.
The very first Dokkan Fest LRs arrived, and me being a Vegetto lover, was so hyped for pulling him but at the same time really sad because i kinda knew that wouldn't happen.
And thats how i found your channel and knew about the NanoLRGenix gimmick and I changed my account to that name and went for a multi.
And it happened. I pulled the INT Goku and Vegeta.
And I couldn't stop laughing and crying at the same time, this is my peak dokkan moment ever. And thats why 3rd Anni is the best Anni for me, and I treasure this moment so much.
Don't know if you ever gonna read this but I HAVE to say it: Thank you so much for all the moments, the nostalgia, I really appreaciate it. I love this game, I love this community, and I love being part of it.

Back when AGL Gohan and INT Cell dropped, my friend introduced me to you and explained everything, including „your luck“. I didn’t believe him but tried it by changing your name and holy shit, I pulled Cell twice! Since that day I follow you and love everything about you content. Thanks for everything man ❤

When the third anniversary came to global i changed my name to nano because i had been playing for a year and still didnt have any lrs. Ended the anniversary with both the new lrs and two lrs from the free tickets, one of my fondest memories of dokkan
You know what is crazy? They didn't just both get an LR upon changing the name. Both summons also featured Vegeta and Chiaotzu.

5th anni had to be the best celebration for me in terms of hype and I changed my name to nano, got both of the fusions. I loved them ever since ❤️
1:30 I remember one time when I first started during 4th anniversary when I summoned on the ssj4 vegeta banner and I pulled him on the third or fourth multi I think, and it was right after I changed my name to Nanogenix. Still can't believe that was four years ago.

I'm a cybersecurity major so I'll give my theory on why they did this.
Theoretically, if the input of something like player data isn't handled correctly, in this case it could be used in something called an OS command injection attack. Basically, with some clever manipulation of text you can trick the program into reading that input as an actual command, and it would then run the command (in this case the text editor) on the OS. Since Nano is a text editor, it could possibly then be used to read, write and change all sorts of stuff on the system it's running on, which could be REALLY bad considering this would be running either on a server that handles with player logins/player info.
If they used best coding practices it SHOULD be properly handling the data so that it wouldn't allow said exploit to happen, but who knows what it looks like behind the scenes. It's possible someone did manage to use it to exploit something, or they're just being extra cautious and preemptively banning it.
This honestly took me by surprise, but after the research you did, it makes a lot of sense, so sorry I’ve only just heard of it and hope you were okay at the time, but at least you’re staying! Just in a more unique way, so stay awesome Nan0! Much love!

@@waiyon1951 it could be that they didnt realize it was a problem. Or they didnt use that text editor and moved to using it instead of a different more complicated one. Doesnt need to be a full engine update for them to change that

You were the first dokkan youtuber I watched. Been following for around 4 or 5 years and love the content. Even if your in-game name isn't Nano, it will always be Nano in our 💕 also, love the collabs with diddy and Truth. You 3 are beasts
My friend pointed me to this video since I have some insight as to what likely happened. By default, nano is not usually* installed on ubuntu server instances, but they might have been using an additional set of packages since perhaps some developers were more comfortable using the nano program over vim. What I would assume most likely happened is that when implementing the name ban filter, they had their list of all of the bad words, and then they also added to that list of banned words all of the executable program names that could be found in the PATH enviornment variable. This is probably a precaution against a possible code injection attack, but I find it unlikely than any such attack would be possible if their code was well-written. Reguardless, precautions aren't bad to take and I wouldn't be surprised if names like 'sudo' 'apt' 'curl' 'git' (all programs which are program names which are probably installed) etc... were also banned. I don't have the app so I cannot test this, however.

I remember for the 7th Anni on Global, (yeah I know the ban is on JP but roll with it) I was getting shafted on both the part 1 and part 2 banners. I changed my name to Nano for the lols. Ended up pulling all four units within roughly 500 stones between all 3 banners 🤣🤣

Talking about the Nano and Ubuntu issue I just happened to learn about this last semester, I'm also a CS major Nano! There are many ways to escalate your status (ex. going from a regular user to an admin user), and there's ways to use text files to potentially run commands you shouldn't be able to run. No idea if that applies to Dokkan but it is most likely a safety precaution, since there's no point in taking the risk.
I honestly don’t think that’s the case. Nano, like the documentation said, is just a terminal text editor. The command “nano” itself doesn’t really do anything other than opening a text editor for a file. Which doesn’t make sense in this case. Either “Nano” is some kind of derogatory slang word in the Japanese culture, or someone once got banned using that name and is circumventing the ban. Either way, highly doubt it has to do anything with the backend. Otherwise, someone would’ve figured this out long before today.

I remember back in the day, I stayed up for teq vegito blue and str rose release. I changed my name to "Na-noLR-genix" (cheers if you remember the meme) and I pulled both units within something like 3-4 multis. It was insane, saved up 1500~ so I kept going and only pulled 2 copies or so. But yeah changed it back. Still one of the luckiest moments in dokkan for me. Cheers nano👍👍👍

I remember changing my name to Nano during the 3rd yr anni. I was 14-15 back then so I snuck in my old Samsung tablet into my room at 12-1 am and got on once they dropped. Servers were really bad but I eventually got to summoning and eventually I had exhausted out all my saved up stones but nothing. I had 41 stones left over so I grabbed some by grinding a bit, changed my name to Nano and there it was. I wanted nothing more than the Vegito in that moment since he was considered the best in the game at that moment and he is my favorite character. With my last 50 stones and the name change to Nano and finally got him and cried a bit 😅 then I had to scramble and go put my tablet back lol but the point is I felt that name gave me so much luck in the moment and I’ll never forget that moment, thank you Nano for all the memories, we love and support you all the way and keep pushing stronger everyday!

Dude I never changed my name to nano, but me and my best friend have both been playing Dokkan since year 1 on global, and we still play to this day always talking about summons and redzones and new events, and we are about to graduate college. I never watched Dokkan on TH-cam, but a year and a half ago I found u and started watching ur videos, especially the super long summon videos. I would put them on while staying up late for a new summon to drop and while I was summoning. Dokkan has been a big part of the past almost 8 years of my life, so I'm really sorry to hear this

Nano and Zenrotto were the names to go for godly luck. Those were some of the most hilarious and wholesome times ever in the Dokkan community. It truly sucks that it came to an end and I hope there will be a good ending on this ordeal!

Thanks to Truth's Tweet, I finally figured out why I couldn't change my account items like my fav character anymore, add friemds, or be able to change my wallpaper.
It was very annoying to find a new name to change it to but I'm glad it was fixed.

Whatever the programming language they are using , nano might be a keyword like a function name or inbuilt store procedure name. Hence it's not allowed anymore. Maybe they have a new stored procedure named as nano something.

I don't play JP frequently, but I'm pretty active on my Global account, but I do have a story still. During 5th anniversary, I pulled TEQ Vegito very quickly, but was struggling with STR Gogeta. I saw multiple memes on Twitter of people changing their name to Nano/Nanogenix. I basically said "Alright, I'll bite". I hopped back on, swapped my name to Nano, and chucked a single into the Gogeta banner. I got the Blue Vegito animation and pulled STR Gogeta!

this'll be probably buried but an emotional moment for me was during year 5, I really really badly wanted gogeta;
I had pulled vegito already with like, two dupes so I wanted gogeta badly especially with his awesome animations and that fucking ACTIVE SKILL, with the last few stones I had I named myself Nanogenix and I fucking got him, I was shocked and going crazy
I thought this was real so I told my friends to start naming themselves nano or nanogenix for the luck and my god we got lucky, eventually it turned out to be fun because we decided anytime we summoned to use a youtubers luck and see if we could pull LRs on their name (Rhymestyle, datruth, ClashX, Living Ichigo, etc etc.)

I changed my name to nano and zenrotto in 2019 on 2 separate accounts. I stopped playing a couple years ago when I lost my account infos when i got a new phone. So Nano from the little bit of understanding I have of coding the reason they banned the name is because when they are doing a data download and nano being on the servers in a so many places due to the names it causes some casual errors to happen and its a mild headache for them because updating something like categories etc. is gonna use it and really not that huge of a deal but the constant updates and having to mind that would get irritating

as a programmer I find it hard to believe the text editor nano which I use on a daily basis is the cause of this, your name in a game typically would be a pure string of letters and symbols stored away and not treated as a command or a reference, this seems bizarre to me that even if your name could somehow trigger a command or an event the company respond would be to ban everything possible to avoid an exploit and not eliminating the cause of issuing a command with your name in the first place
Again your name works on global so my guess is because your name is very popular, maybe there are some restrictions on having the same name as many other users

yo wait wtf, real talk, I used to play dokkan way back in the day, my name was NANODAAA like a dio reference, and I pulled str blue kaioken goku, one of my favorite units back in the day. I know its not nearly as good as it is now, but I really had some fun times with friends back in the day with that account. Due to high school I quit, but dokkan really saved me from some hard times, and im shocked that they would do this. I reinstalled on my phone, and it really doesnt work anymore :(

I remember back when Lr gofrieza dropped for the first time. Everyone was saying changing your name to nano guaranteed an Lr so I did (had been following your videos for a while by that point) I trusted the Nano luck and I pulled them along with 2 Lr bojack dupes. Never pulled them again. It was a great moment and as much as people wanted to hate and say it was just a coincidence, I trusted the nano luck. Dokkan isn't a perfect game or the best ever but in terms of games, it's one that I have been with since I was in elementary school and watching multiple TH-cam including you elevated that experience even more. This is definitely a blow for us who created good memories with this name change. I think instead of feeling upset, we should be happy with the memories it created and the impact it had on the dokkan community as a whole.
