i always come back to this video every year or two just to appreciate it. DJI owes almost every smart feature it has to this drone. It's a shame that gopro closed down its platform to 3dr back then because i can only imagine what they could have made with current tech.
For anyone just watching this video now, note the publish date. The Solo, although still very much alive with aftermarket support, was discontinued by 3DR in the spring of 2016. They continued selling existing stock which is now pretty much exhausted. They no longer manufacture hardware and are now a software only company. You can still find Solo's for sale but be sure you thoroughly research the current situation with the Solo and understand what you're getting into before taking the plunge. Many people have them and use them and love them but they have their proclivities.

Alan Mauro GoPro's Karma drone is a big disaster. Big mistake. GoPro has no idea how to develop a drone except copying some thing from the open source PX4.
Now DJI runs the whole game. DJI is lights years ahead of the competition. Plus DJI drones are reliable. Wow have things changed.

this was such a great production. i think it will be awhile until it is appreciated what 3dr really brought to the aerial landscape. dji has benefited substantially from their subsequent releases from this tech.

Still have this drone....the only one that I know where you can record a flight path and refly it over and over. Used it to film a time lapse of my house. So much hope...yet so sad it died.

They spent more money on this commercial than they did on the actual product. 3DR killed themselves with this massive failure.

Objectively Reviewing the features of this Drone "SOLO" , I think it is much better than the phantom 3 in terms of aesthetic design, power, range and autonomy, the remote control is a Work of Art and see just looks like a spaceship. I really congratulate to "3DR", I hope they improve marketing and assure them that sweeps sales.
Great presentation, which I assumed was shot almost entirely on RED epic and half the shots were composited. Is there actual footage from the drone+gopro combo that can be seen?

You mind sharing what app your using to still be able to fly this drone as the 3DR Solo app has been abandoned and no longer in operation or able to be downloaded from the app store for years now?
I'm sold! On 2nd viewing my only concern is the gimbal; a few of those shots look shaky. Looking forward to seeing someone test this before I purchase.

3DR... CONGRATULATIONS on having the BEST booth at NAB2015, as well as the BEST new product! I was truly impressed! I can't wait to try this, seeing as my Phantom 2s just weren't cutting it. Was that video over 6 minutes??? It feels even shorter than most 30 second adds. Over the top commercial for what promises to be an over the top good drone! Love it!
I was set on getting a Phantom 3 to use together with the DJI Inspire 1 I just got, but now I'm planning on skipping the Phantom and selling my Inspire 1 to get a couple 3DR solos.
I agree with others though that the legs are so short that they place the GoPro and gimbal dangerously close to the ground when landing. This can easily be fixed with a DIY solution, but should a DIY fix really be necessary out of the box?

The real big difference between this and DJI is the Gopro. Finally a bird that connects to the Gopro. This is huge...DJI cams pale in comparison with no chance to upgrade. The 3DR lets you move with Gopro and when the GP5 comes out just bolt it on.
That is the coolest made movie to date. I want one.

I will own one of these after the first series of consumer shake-downs. I bought one of the first Phantoms and have loved it. Very few complaints. But I have well and truly outgrown the Phantoms capabilities.... even the new 3 looks to have a few short comings for the pro film maker. I lust after a tiny bird built almost from the ground up as a video platform at a price point that makes sense. This looks to be the right bird at the right time. Here's hoping it lives up to the pre-production hype. If so, count me it for at least one and probably two. We live in wonderful times, yes?
Just one thing to say bout this....absolutely amazing advertorial teaser. Looking forward to see more creations from the Solo team and users. Seems to me a great piece of machinery. Damn i need money...:-(
I have been researching a UAV to buy for some time and I was leaning towards the DJI P3 but here's why I changed my mind. I like the use of the GoPro, it makes the camera multifunctional. For the same reason I don't like white phones and tablets, I also don't like white drones. I would however prefer the Solo to have a greater range.

Besides you should know better than being the first one on the block with one, wait until some other sucker test it, reviews it and they fix the issues of the first few. Never never be the first to own one unless you want to be a test pilot. LOL.

Nope, ordered their flagship IRIS+ product ... and they don't stock basic accessories for it, and have no idea when they will. A+ marketing, D- Operations.
Pretty sure the solo is their flagship model as it costs nearly double the Iris+... I received my solo today and even without the gimbal, it's amazing :)

I liked the video, reminded me of the opening for "2001 A Space Odyssey". I must admit I would have liked to have seen the Solo kit with the gimblal for $1399 come with two batteries instead of just one. I think that would have been another great selling point and convinced more buyers that are sitting on the fence to go with the Solo.
plan on getting one wanted to go cheap sadly wont get the hero 4 plus for it only the 3 wondering when its going to be released and will the price drop in a year?

Very cool video, very cool drone. I only wish it wasn't black. If there is nothing but sky behind it, there shouldn't be a problem, but at night, inside or even with trees or land behind it, I think it's going to be hard to see from any distance.
How does this compare to Percepto flown on DJI or 3DR?
