Sean was a close friend of mine. He was a huge character on and off the screen. When he was asked I'm the interview about how he helps people he didn't mention any of the work he's done. That is the sign of a true philanthropist.
On the ride home after this interview, we were talking and he wondered why Boris was even there.
Sean was a true gentleman and he didn't belittle Boris on the set, although he easily could have.
He was the most humble person I have ever known.

How would I know he was born 25th August 1930, as Thomas Connery, and that
he was referred to as Tommy in his youth.
His first job was as a milkman with the St Cuthbert’s Co-Operative Society in Edinburgh that's where I met him and we became friends for life.
Sean and myself worked as coffin polishers, but there was no life in it.
That was just before he got into acting.
He also did various small jobs in-between.
He was in the navy for eg.
We both got tattoos saying "Scotland forever"
How would I know these things if I didn't know our Sean.

The Original, and the Greatest 007/Bond actor of them all, imho. For me Daniel Craig runs a close 2nd, but I’ll never be able to not think of him as the man with no name in ‘Layer Cake’. Always hoped for a sequel to that movie, in which he survives, marries the girl, and then tracks down the guy who shot him, and then figures out which of his former friends betrayed him. That would have been another epic film.

I once saw an interview when Sean Connery was asked why he gave a million from Diamonds are Forever to o a Scottish trust and his reply endeared me to him forever. 'I have enough money,' he said. 'I don't need any more.' His response epitomised an attitude that died out with the emergence of Thatcher. After her, acquisition of wealth was the be all and end all. Nobody was satisfied any more.

Also at that time he hadn't avoided any great sum in tax, certainly not as much as others who would never donate a fraction as much. Also, at that time nothing was known of his other peccadilloes or of any difficulties between him and other actors. What I saw was a man with heart enough to donate a million when a million really was a million. A man who said he had enough money. Whether he changed his mind is irrelevant. At the time I formed my opinion I thought his was a noble act. Still do.

I honestly think he would have been far happier if he had went into TV or presenting. As he has the wit and personality for it, along with the need to be liked. However he does not have the work ethic, steadfastness, maturity or moral backbone needed to be a good or even compatent PM. It is well known that even at collage he was he was a "fippertigibibit" and a tomfool and clown, and someone who flew by the seat of his pants and got by by being who he was rather that what he acheived through academic endeavor. I think he only pursued politics becase there was an expectation on him through friends and family, and he probably believed in the yes prime minister scketch where jim hacker is told that as PM ; "there we're lots of things he was expected to do, meany things he should do, but very little he HAS to do" [sic], and thought that being PM was just a matter of delegation and showing up to be lorded.
In short i think he wanted the title of prime minister, but not the actual job and everything that that needs and requires. Which, unfortunately for the country.... is everything that he lackes

Loved how the one time BJ thought he'd outsmarted him with "James Bond went to Eton" and repeated it several times until it was acknowledged, Connery simply deflects with "Of course he went to Eton". That was the point! Fleming didn't want Connery to play his Eton educated fictional spy, because Sean wasn't from that world. BJ seemed to get confused and think Sean Connery was James Bond, and he went to Eton, so it was hypocritical to put Fleming down for attending. Infantile debating skills from BJ.
