Another terrific vlog Christian. You are really hitting the Walter Hagen brassie well! Given all that you have going on during one of these rounds, with the video and figuring out a new course as you go along; I think you are doing great. Once again presenting a round of golf that those of us "off the fairway jailbirds" can identify with. ;) Keep 'em coming!
Thanks, Brad! My primary swing thought with the brassie right now is “swing 75 percent.” That club is so fun to swing that I often overswing. If I consciously dial it back a little, I’m much more consistent. And yeah - I decided a while back that considering the circumstances of filming courses that I’m usually playing for the first time, scoring well isn’t my primary concern. As long as I have a good time and do my best to show what’s interesting about the course and clubs, I’ll be satisfied.
I enjoy your vlogs. I myself play 1930's pyratone shafted clubs, and so I can empathize with your every shot. You play your clubs well. Keep 'em coming.
Will do - thanks for watching, Al! When I feel like playing non-hickory clubs, I have a short set of MacGregor Texan Ben Hogan pyratones that I really enjoy. I usually play them when the weather is colder and I don’t want to risk breaking my hickory shafts on hard ground.
Hey, Reid! I should have taken more footage of you guys off the tee. I thought I had some good shots of at least the par 3s, but apparently all I got was a lot of lag putts.
Love seeing these old courses thanks to your channel. Not sure how a course in that area of the US can fall into disrepair. I presume the more affluent golfers in the area are playing the expensive member courses and the muni people overseeing it didn’t give a shit
Thanks for watching. And yeah, I don’t know the details, but I’d say your guess is a good one. When EP opened, it was considered important to give the public a quality place to play golf and over time, that became an afterthought. I’m happy to see a resurgent interest in muni courses again, both among golfers and organizations that are willing to invest in them.
I’m not a big hitter, so my average carry is about 190, 195 with a total average distance of around 205 to 210. I’ve gotten a hold of a few around 235 total, but those are maybe every 1 out of 20. Most guys see around 15-20 yards less carry off the tee with hickories vs. their moderns.
@@kristianbarry My wife and I have only lived here in CT for a year so the only course in MA I've played so far is CC of Greenfield. I've got a few on the Cape that I'm hoping to get to for course vlogs before the end of this season, though, including Cape Cod CC and Highland Links. There are also a bunch of others I'm planning on for next season.
The Hickory Hacker I’m really enjoying watching the videos, honestly learning a but too, I’m now hooked on the Hickory lol I’m really trying to get my wife on board but don’t think she is ready to jump away from her modern tech lol
The first thing we did was make a Facebook page for our group so other golfers in our area could find us and learn more about hickory golf. Then - and this is my favorite step - you dress up in your hickory clothes and play with your hickory clubs whenever you play golf. Other golfers will probably be curious and ask you about the clubs and you can talk with them more about hickory golf and invite them to join the Facebook group. Eventually enough people in your area will join so that you can start coordinating meet-ups and then you’ll have successfully started a regional hickory golf group!
At 8:06, X marks the spot and you were darn near the very center. Thanks for the vlog showing the Potomac course.
Nice birdie! Now the rest of the front nine...........Mums the word!
It was a classic hacker nine - lots of big holes capped off with a birdie. 😂

I just found this channel and I'm in love with all the Hickory club content!
That’s awesome - welcome!

Every shot is great when you learn from it :)
👍 Excellent perspective- I need to remember that.
Was hoping you'd get some of my shots on camera but it was fun round none the less!

Just getting into Hickory, so far so good. Question, how far is your typical dive with the Brassie? Thank you

The Hickory Hacker thank you, love the channel!! The Blogs are great, what are some of your favorite courses in MA ?

@@kristianbarry Are you in MA or close by? If so, I can hook you both up with some clubs and we can play sometime.
How do you start a hickory golf association.

Thank you. I will try to start down here.
