The show is practically telling you this would happen, that is why it protects Marinette's Fantasy. The joke is that I suppose if they allowed her to be friend zoned she'd not be so self-conscious around him and they'd have an easier time of it & actually get closer - as they'd be able to have a conversation, In terms of production code order only these episode appear after Marinette finds out Adrien loves someone else (she doesn't know it's Ladybug)

, Felix, Ladybug, Loveater / Heart Hunter (Battle of the Miraculous, pt 1), Miracle Queen (Battle of the Miraculous, pt 2)] - she may most likely think it's Kagami He is in love with.
As she actually likes Kagami she kinda gives up on Adrien to give them a chance even though Adrien is still fixated on LadyBug.
But the reason I mention all this is just as an earlier rejection would do the end position of Season 3 would leave Adrien thinking Marinette is Luka's Girlfriend, and Marinette will think Kagami and Adrien are a couple (of sorts), and due to the constant rejection Cat Noir gets and the idea that Adrien has someone else Marinette has, she may instead of feeling befuddled around him feel a bit sad and wistful, yet with time she'd get used to the status change and might be able to talk to Adrien pair up with him on class projects, and have a normal conversation with him, so she might not have her heat of her love but she will perhaps in a way broaden it beyond the superficial fixation. Maybe Cat Noir might lay off LB a bit and concentrate on being her Friend and partner and not be quite so flirtatious with her - resulting in LB feeling a bit sad for the lack of attention. So she might actually say yes to his suggestions they go hang out if she doesn't feel under pressure and so have some better bonding time as a result.
So a rejection doesn't have to be a disaster if it leads to a deeper bond. (eventually)

While watching this I was like, "Figure it out! Tell each other who you are!" And then it just goes with Adriene unintentially breaking Marinette's heart and never knowing she was the one he was in love with. Also, for all of you who don't understand why this is a good ship, considering this just implied that Adriene was more in love with the Ladybug side of Marinette and Marinette was more in love with the Adriene side of Cat Noir, I'd like to point out that they may just really prefer this side of each other. They still care for each other no matter how they act and from what I know of Miraculous there are implications of them having crushes on each other "with and without the mask," they just show it more when a different side is shown. Now I know that there may have been an implication of Adriene liking Chloe, because when he almost destories a Christmas tree in the Christmas movie, it's thinking of how Chloe would react that stops him. Still, for me, I prefer the AdrieneXMarinette ship over the AdrieneXChloe ship and hopefully this makes sense. Either way you may feel free to stand by your own opinion and ship these two characters with whoever you see fit.
