    Some great shots here Matt, think with film photos it doesn't matter if you don't nail the focus. Your portrait shots here for example still have a nice look and feel to them, the sort of photos you'd expect a high end fashion brand to use for commercial campaign. Really look forward to what's coming next on the channel!

    I love the shot at 6:49 although it seems a little off focus, not sure if it is the video or the shallow depth of field but it is nice

    • @MattJNeale
      @MattJNeale  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You’re right, it’s a little off focus Nelson. I probably should’ve bumped up the aperture a bit! I was initially disappointed when I first saw the scan but it’s grown on me after some time. Thanks for sharing your thoughts mate.

    Great pics! Personally I would frame some differently and it's a shame that you missed focus on some (although as you said sometimes it works well, like the one at 6:53). I'd say best one has to be the one at 3:19.

    • @MattJNeale
      @MattJNeale  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would also frame some of them differently after reviewing them. I’m glad you found one you like though! Thank you for sharing your thoughts mate.

    Love this.. super chilled. And I’m the same. I’ve never really been one for the scenery and the outdoors like that. Give me a city or a supercar any day. You’ve made want to venture into the woods now tho haha great shots. Love that one with the mist / fog rising. Keep up the good work.

    Matt this is unbelievable work . Wow the TH-cam universe is in for a special treat . I can’t stop watching your stuff . One question for you how you present the white frames around your photos ?

    • @MattJNeale
      @MattJNeale  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      JB you’re too kind man, thank you.
      Regarding the white frames I use Final Cut to edit my videos so here’s how I do it using this software:
      - go to titles/generators - elements - whites
      - drag the element to timeline
      -make sure your video content is above the white on the timeline
      - scale the video to whatever size you wish
      - enjoy creating!

    Great vid. Love the portraits in the woods, I currently have a roll of Ilford 400 hp5 in my OM10, would love to take some portraits on my tripod, I see you were as low as 1/8th you said, were most of the portraits that low, was it just the dark woods would love to know more, great channel 👍

    • @MattJNeale
      @MattJNeale  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Ian, HP5 is a lovely film, I’m sure you’ll enjoy that one. Yes I did shoot at 1/8th for some of the images, and you’re right, it was because the woods were quite dark. I could’ve pushed the film to 400/800 iso and used a faster shutter but I wanted to shoot at boxspeed for this video.
      Thanks for the comment, hope you have fun with your film!

    • @MattJNeale
      @MattJNeale  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Tyler, thanks for asking.
      At the moment I'm not developing or scanning myself due as I had to move out of my own space. So I'm getting my rolls developed and scanned by a British company called AG Photolab. They are the best I've come across and I wouldn't use any other lab until I can do it myself.

    • @MattJNeale

      I don’t have one myself yet but after doing a bit of research I’d say the Sekonic L-308X-U to be a decent one, especially for beginners. There are many to choose from though so have a look around to see what would best suit your needs. Cheers!

    There is a moment in the video where your wife is looking away from the camera .. it is a great profile shot .. get her to move continually while you capture a moment that you like .. I have a Rollei TLR which I used before digital .. I am now going to shoot with that in B&W .. develop the film, then digitize it

      @MattJNeale  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MattJNeale Yeah, sorry for the overwhelming negativity, I was just really sorry for the model that's all. I shoot out of focus all the time, but that's with a judge focus camera. With slrs the beauty is that you can see everything as it is. For speeds like 1/10 you can totally do handheld, you don't need a tripod. You can also rock back and forth to focus.

    • @MattJNeale
      @MattJNeale  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s alright! I welcome criticism as it helps me improve. Thanks for the tips I will think about that the next time I use an SLR. I’m shooting on a point and shoot this week so I shouldn’t have any issues with focus. At least let’s hope not!

      Trying something new this week. With a bit more practice and some contact lenses, I think this lens could be a creative option for portraits, something against the grain anyway. Thanks for your opinion.
