What’s amusing here is how people get self righteous about this particular issue. You don’t see these people buying ethically sourced coffee, or boycotting Walmart for labor exploitation. You also don’t see them refusing to enter public buildings built by slaves, or refusing other medical treatments for something like frostbite or syphilis because of the unethical development. You don’t see them refusing state services like the police force because they are often used to oppress people. You don’t see them boycotting pharmacies that sell contraceptives or provide abortion pills. I could go on and on but I’ve made my point. The selective outrage is quite telling.
You have made a point, apparently, that your thinking revolves in a convoluted manner, conflating issues. Most Catholics, we are told, are adamantly opposed to the abortion procedure, and any proceeding processes resulting from said procedures. While abortions are abhorrent to some persons, an opposition position can be logically made that since abortions are indeed legal (excepting the recent legislation, remanding availability to each state); and it can be said that a similar comparison can be derived regarding using organs and tissues "donated" by deceased persons, who, having agreed prior to their own death, they wished to do so. If the final disposition of the fetal tissue is using it to help living humans, vs simply disposing of said remains as medical/surgical waste, it confounds me, as a Catholic, why some good can be derived from purported evil act. That whole area of discussion is outside the realm of ethically produced or obtained retail products. The laws of the consuming regions and those of the producing regions cannot be imposed on each other. If you are going to specifically identity two organizations, fair deposition of facts should be expected. Look at your clothing tags. While there are unethical worker environment situations outside the US, and in some large companies, it cannot be automatically and ethically stated that it is a universal operation. OK, you want to boycott pharmacies? How many DO sell some type of contraceptive; or probably and easier computation would be who doesn't? The days of privately owned and operated pharmacies are pretty much extinct. Most are simply extensions of the BiG pharma operated companies. Where will one get their prescriptions filled? "Selected Outrage" or Selective Fill In The Blank are conducted as far as a potential participant is willing and physical to participate, contingent upon what a certain protest entails; sometimes persons are simply unable to participate. Their earnest participation can be in earnest conversation with their Maker via prayers and other approved rituals. My Bottom Line: Also in response to post and reply here, One Does What They Can, Where and How they can, to the extent of their abilities. @kylesmith 1601: You make the same selective/elective decisions daily, Do not berate those who view the bottom lines and red lines via lenses that different from yours. Speaking of vaccines and ethics, why are these companies ensuring they have legal immunity from prosecution if the products they sell end up harming people? When did accountability stop being a good thing?
Because this was deemed an emergent endeavor unlike other pharmaceutical products that are given more time to develope, and therefore more time to determine all the possible side effects vs benefits. The development of this vaccine isn't being given that luxury.

In Quebec, we are developing a plant-based vaccine (modified plants, e.g. no animal or human contents) that is currently entering phase 3 human trials. Fr. Casey, could you allow volunteers from the comments to write Closed Captions for your videos in other languages? My extended family only speaks Spanish, and I want them to be able to see this so that they make the right choice when the vaccines come out.
TH-cam removed the community contributions closed captioning feature a few months back, unfortunately. He could add such captions himself, but he would have to manually enter the new captions himself, or pay a professional company to do so, even if you sent him the translation he needed to get started.
Become the interpreter of the video yourself. Just grab the entire idea and explain it to your family. It would take you almost 10 minutes, too, but that'd be the only way for now.
Before watching this video it never even crossed my mind to question the ethicality of any vaccine. It simply never occurred to me that it would be something that could involve using cell lines from aborted fetuses.
Matthew 10:28 And fear ye not them that kill the body, and are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him that can destroy both soul and body in hell.
The first part of this video on cooperation in evil should be a video in it's own right. There are so many more situations that need to be discussed, especially for Catholics working in health care. For example, is it ok for a Catholic to participate in the sale of contraception? What about a Catholic pharmacist checking prescriptions for the morning after pill? What about Catholics giving their business to a pharmacy knowing that the pharmacy dispenses abortion pills to other patients?
You have brought up a very troubling matter to me. I never considered how the pharmacy across the street sells condoms and I shop there. How am I going against the word of God? You have made me ponder, I thank you for this examples. I will place them in my prayers discussions with God.
I’m not religious, so I can’t answer this from a catholic’s perspective, but I would say that using the “6 degrees of sin”, basically any consumption would be a descendant of some form of sin or evil. For example, simply by watching this video and commenting, everyone here is presumably using a computer or a device that has computing abilities. Almost all computer components use rare earth metals that are mined using extremely cheap, borderline slave labour, sometimes involving children.
You should do an updated video now on how we were all mislead and lied to and to the many Catholics who lost their jobs fighting to do the right thing.
One point that I think is glossed over is that the researchers that used the aborted fetus material to produce a vaccine, did not engage in the abortions themselves, and don't present a source of "demand" for aborted fetuses, since that would not make it only ethically dubious, but outright illegal. Therefore, it would seem that vaccines derived from research using cell lines from aborted fetuses should be considered about as controversial as being operated by a doctor who first learned their craft on operating dead bodies.
Pope Francis and Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI both approved of the vaccine and had it themselves. Also our Bishops Conference here in England approved it, and I also read that it was approved by the majority of the US Bishops.
I have lost two aunts due to covid and at this moment I have another aunt and her husband who are battling the virus in critical condition. I just ask people to think of others and please take the vaccine if available.
Prayers for you family. Just a note - One thing to keep in mind here is that we are being told that getting the vaccine does NOT mean you are benefiting the rest of the population’s health because you are still contagious if you get COVID while vaccinated and that we will likely need an annual vaccine much like the flu vaccine. In other words, getting the vaccination benefits the person, allegedly, who received the vaccine, but it does not benefit your neighbor.
We wear diamonds from tortured miners and use sweatshop smartphones and give it little thought, so a cure for this plague from a few backseat-fertilized eggs isn't going to give me a single pang of guilt.

The idea of unborn children who were ripped apart from abortion being used to make us well does not sit right with me, no matter the distance from that evil.
I wish he had spent a little more time in the human aspect instead of just reading catholic theology and urging us to accept it. I do not like the way he presented the fact that at the end is part of why we need Christ because no matter how we live our lives, we will always benefit in some part from sin( ours and others) from the suffering of the innocent and evil acts committed by others. So Jesus was born to bear those sins because we can’t. I hate it but at the end of the day Father is some what right in that if we had had any vaccine unfortunately we are raping the benefits that came from an abortion and we cannot avoid it. May God forgive me.
I'm sorry father, there are a couple of things in this video and with the Vatican documents both from 2005 and 2017 that simply have to be better explained. For example, I do not completely understand the idea of public health being a priority. A priority as opposed to what? What is health anyways? Please educate me on this, and forgive my lack of knowledge, but to my understanding of catholic theology, we believe that our bodies are in the service of our souls which are in the service of our Lord. Having that in mind in theory at least, why should we compromise moral standards or seek wholes in our moral law (thus far defined), only to avoid falling ill for two weeks (more or less), or even avoid dying. When it comes to Catholicism it always seems wrong to ask what are the limits of moral goodness so we can dwell saying we have done nothing wrong. It seems the question should be, how best we can serve our Lord in the most holy possible way. The whole situation kind of reminds me of Saint Cosmas and Damian whose lives I think you could educate me on. I hope you will see this comment and answer it. Thank you.
@@nellywellyboo2383 I'm sorry, maybe I posed my question the wrong way because your answer doesn't cover the question at all. Everything in your answer is included in the domain of public health, so "public health" is a priority in comparison to a large number of avoidable deaths given the existence of vaccine? It doesn't make much sense. The problem with prioritizing public health is when it comes at a price of violating foundational moral principles. For example, say another sickness spreads the world and there are a group of people who have immunity, but to get it from them we needed to kill them first so the surgery could be performed. On the one hand public health is at stake, but by killing anyone or condoning it our souls are the ones who are getting extremely sick. It simply isn't a catholic view.
@@ddzeko3875 ^^ Imagine allowing the deaths of millions of people because a crazy religion view :3 that's why Catholicism is extremely disapprove in younger generations.

I'm really not here to debate this stuff because it's impossible doing it in the comment section. My comments are too long as it is.
I've always been confused by this line of reasoning. To break it into it's simplest term, in reference to the fetal lines used, using tissue and organs from murder victims is wrong. Yet, the harvesting of organs and tissue of murder victims is okay within the context of organ donation. Both deaths were non consentual and acts of sin. However benefiting from one is okay and the other isn't. The researchers using the fetal tissue weren't involved in the abortion, a good portion probably weren't even alive when they took place. They are taking a tragedy and making some good come from it.
No one in his/her right mind is ok with murder. In contrast, these medical research professionals are ok with abortion, knowing that they can harvest parts and tissues from the unborn. They never consider abortion a tragedy.

'Moral problems pertaining to them may be used on a temporary basis.' That makes no sense. If a guy robs a store, then gives the money to a Church, and the Church knows the money is stolen, but uses it for 'God', it's ok because it's only a 'temporary' moral thing. I suppose we could justify anything. It started in the garden. 'The snake beguiled me.' 'It was the woman'. It's been downhill ever since. A wrong in the beginning of anything, does not make a 'temporary' moral justification. How about obey the Word of God and stop listening to men's justification to disobedience?
He said that after explain that is the last resource, in the case you are saying, the church has the option to not use the money and continue the work as they do, in the vaccine case is not an option letting people die and have those restrictive quarantines. Consider this info in light of the video on cloning a few days ago here. Given our fallen nature if it’s possible and economical to produce meds from cloned humans who are used for medical testing and organ harvesting then that will become the normal way pharmaceuticals are developed. Saying “I disagree with how this is made but I’m taking it anyway” will not matter at all to the people who count the money at big pharma. Deciding the public is too remote from laboratories for it to matter where the money goes is going to lead us to a situation where this is the norm. Animal rights and nonChristians already support this as they don’t consider human embryos to be people and promote killing them as a necessary and even virtuous service to the poor. As has already been proven by undercover reporting, “baby body parts” are ALREADY purchased by investors to develop various products. I fear the day is coming when this will be the dilemma we face with all meds, cancer, allergy, asthma, etc. Once the church gives way, the floodgates will open. I don’t know if Jesus will judge every person in this, but he will certainly judge the church leaders, those in decision making positions. It’s not for nothing the scriptures say “woe to the shepherds” -Jere 23:1, “Not many of you should be teachers” -Jas 3:1, and “those who will give an account” Heb 13:17.

True talk Maciel! We are not afraid to die. Accepting a vaccine gotten from aborted foetus is indirectly encouraging abortion. What pains me is all these narration about evil when evil is evil. Let knowledge not deceive us. Like the saints of old, the likes of St. Damien of Molokai and others, we should not be afraid of all these that only kill body and not soul. Praise God !!!
Such a complex issue 😖 I can't believe I just learned recently that some mainstream vaccines have been using cells from aborted babies since the 60's! Truly heartbreaking. I do appreciate the fact that the Church keeps up to date and offers useful guidelines for this issue. In the end we should choose the ethical option when available over the unethical one but if no ethical option is available it's considered licit to use on the face of serious public danger it right? In my country I think the only vaccines we have contracts for so far are the AstraZeneca and Janssen so I'm hoping an ethical one comes up with good results and we can get it so we have that option. The only think I'd add to the video is this quote from the Vatican Statement on Vaccines Derived From Aborted Human Fetuses: "Therefore, doctors and fathers of families have a duty to take recourse to alternative vaccines (if they exist), putting pressure on the political authorities and health systems so that other vaccines without moral problems become available. They should take recourse, if necessary, to the use of conscientious objection with regard to the use of vaccines produced by means of cell lines of aborted human foetal origin. Equally, they should oppose by all means (in writing, through the various associations, mass media, etc.) the vaccines which do not yet have morally acceptable alternatives, creating pressure so that alternative vaccines are prepared, which are not connected with the abortion of a human foetus, and requesting rigorous legal control of the pharmaceutical industry producers."
I am more concerned about the long-term effects of the vaccines...in the next few years, are different cancers going to show up--especially from the RNA ones? That would be worse than Covid!
"As Catholics, we have a moral obligation to prevent the production of vaccines as a result of abortions, but we ALSO have a moral obligation to protect life outside of the womb exposed to dangerous diseases." Say it louder for the people in the back.

Scrutinize what we are doing? My friend that is called an examen of conscience and we are to be doing it daily. Many sins are sins people do not realize they are committing, and as per CCC, we are not only to be not participating or encouraging another's sin, but we actually have a moral obligation to hinder or disclose to someone when they are committing a sin. (1868) If you're encouraging people to turn a blind eye to their own personal sin, well I would ask you to reconsider. Every Catholic's goal should get to a point where every single action you take, word you speak, thought you think, is carefully considered and every sinful thing is hated and condemned by ourselves and repented. Jesus said 'go forth and sin no more'. He didn't say 'well you know, don't overthink sin you'll drive yourself crazy.' Perfection is the goal, and God knows it is possible because otherwise He wouldn't tell us to.
@aheadfullof do you eat chocolate? Many candy companies, from Hershey to Cadbury, use child slavery in order to harvest it. Let me repeat that: child slavery. This is a known and proven issue. By purchasing anything from those companies, you contribute to perpetuating a child being used for forced labor. Thousands dying under the abuse. Right now there are children enslaved and harvesting cocoa for the consumption of you, your family, your kids, and likely most kids your kids know. I would say that’s evil, and while might be excused by not knowing.... now you know. Are you going to continue to be complicit in that evil now that you know? I’ll go a step further. The children that were kept in the camps at the border had no access to blankets, soap, or toothbrushes, again, proven in court. Reported in the news. Babies, toddlers, teenagers, and in between, with no blankets to sleep under at night and no soap to wash themselves with. And a judge said that was okay. I’m pretty certain that anyone who supports that kind of treatment for children is an immoral monster. Yet I’m betting that most people here didn’t write their congressmen or collect supplies for those kids, either. That was something that was in the news, multiple times. Very little reason to be ignorant of it and it happened (is happening) here in the US. So while you can say you aren’t supporting abortion by not getting the vaccine, you also get to look God in the eye and say you stood silent and did nothing while thousands of living and breathing babies and children were used, abused, kept, and killed in terrible, evil ways. You picked your battle and decided an unborn child from four decades ago was more important than the thousands abused every day for decades. Though admittedly, I hope that ones made without the cell lines come soon, because that would be the best outcome for all parties.

I have an ethical question. I recently found out a group I give money to has been significantly financially supporting abortion through promoting it politically. The group otherwise seems to do mostly good work. Is it ethical to continue my financial support? This decision has me in turmoil. I want to do good, but I'm worried about the moral consequences of continuing support, if only tangentially, to abortion.
MONEY TALKS! There are many good, responsible charitable organizations that will make ethical decisions regarding how they spend your donations. It frustrates me to hear fellow Catholics say that they give money to X charity because "... they help families at Christmas...", ignoring the fact that for the rest of the year they "help" families by arranging for contraceptives and abortions. I also boycott local businesses that openly support the Gay Pride fiasco. MONEY TALKS!
@@alhilford2345 Does anyone know a way I can support my local parish without some part of the funds filtering up to the bishops then over to abortionists? It's not like my parish priest is supporting abortions, but I suspect any money I give flows up the chain.
Is it ethical to continue to support this group? Absolutely NOT. It is sinful and I think you know that but won't come to terms with it for some reason. There are plenty of excellent groups doing critical work with no ties to evil that you can support. What about World Vision or the Christian Children's Fund just to name a couple.
@@cpc8096 It's hard to take from a group without giving back. I attend a parish church and gain benefits from being in the group. How can I not pay my share? But how can I pay my share? It's a conundrum.

You could have just said you don't know what you're talking about. How bad it affects the average person has little relevance to why the COVID is so dangerous.
Statement from Pro-Life Catholic Scholars on the Moral Acceptability of Receiving COVID-19 Vaccines Note: EPPC has organized the following statement from leading pro-life Catholic scholars, including EPPC President Ryan T. Anderson, EPPC board member and Princeton professor Robert P. George, and EPPC Fellow and Notre Dame professor O. Carter Snead, along with two professors at pontifical universities in Rome and other U.S.-based scholars, to explain why it is morally acceptable for pro-life citizens to receive any of the COVID-19 vaccines currently available. The past year of suffering under the onslaught of COVID-19 has brought with it numerous ethical questions, and the advent of effective vaccines for COVID is no different. Foremost among the questions for those of us who are committed to defending the intrinsic equal dignity of all human beings from conception to natural death are these: in accepting any of the vaccines on offer, is one in any way endorsing or contributing to the practice of abortion, or is one in any way showing disrespect for the remains of an unborn human being? As to the vaccines currently or soon available in the United States, we agree with Bishop Kevin Rhoades, Chairman of the USCCB Committee on Doctrine, that the answer is no. While there is a technical causal linkage between each of the current vaccines and prior abortions of human persons, we are all agreed, that connection does not mean that vaccine use contributes to the evil of abortion or shows disrespect for the remains of unborn human beings. Accordingly, Catholics, and indeed, all persons of good will who embrace a culture of life for the whole human family, born and unborn, can use these vaccines without fear of moral culpability. Common to the four major vaccines, produced by Moderna, Pfizer, Johnson & Johnson, and AstraZeneca is some use of “immortalized” human cell lines. Ordinarily, cells taken from a body have a limited life span, undergoing only a fixed number of cell divisions before they arrest and die. For ongoing research, scientists prefer to use a “cell line,” or a population of cells derived from a single source that has been modified (typically by some form of genetic mutation) to divide indefinitely in culture. Such “immortalized” cell lines allow scientists to conduct many experiments on cells that are both genetically identical and routinely available in the laboratory. HEK293 is one such commonly used line.[1] The name “HEK” stands for “human embryonic kidney,” and “293” refers to the 293rd experiment conducted by the scientist who produced the cell line. The embryonic kidney cells were originally obtained from the remains of a deceased unborn child following what appears to be an elective abortion that took place in the Netherlands during the early 1970s. The exact circumstances of the abortion are not known, but the scientists producing the cell line were not directly involved and, crucially, the abortion was not performed for the sake of providing biological materials to researchers. HEK293 cells are particularly susceptible to the introduction of foreign DNA, and they rapidly became a standard scientific workhorse, that is widely used by both basic scientists and by industry. Although there are currently many modified versions of HEK293s that optimize these cells for specific purposes, all of the HEK293 cells available around the world today were derived from the remains of a single unborn child that was aborted a half a century ago. Importantly, there is no ongoing use of aborted tissue to generate HEK293 cells, to modify these cells, or to maintain them in the laboratory. Thus, the use of HEK293 (and similar immortalized lines) does not create future incentives for more abortions. How widely used are HEK293 cells? They are commonly used for testing processed foods produced by companies such as Kraft, Nestlé, Cadbury and others. Indeed, the great majority of processed/packaged food products available for sale in the United States are likely to contain ingredients produced or tested in HEK293 cells. They are also used as an alternative to animal testing in the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industry. And their use in biomedical research is ubiquitous and has contributed to an enormous number of new medications and medical procedures developed over the last several decades. It thus seems fair to say that in addition to the use of HEK293 cells by the scientific community, nearly every person in the modern world has consumed food products, taken medications or used cosmetics/personal care products that were developed through the use of HEK293 cells in the food, biomedical and cosmetic industries. The various vaccines have made different uses of the HEK293 cell line, with Johnson & Johnson and AstraZeneca using them for manufacture, Pfizer and Moderna for testing only. But these differences are irrelevant to the following questions: Do any of the vaccines make more use than others of the mortal remains of unborn children from whom the cell lines were derived? The answer is no; as a matter of scientific fact, no fetal “body parts” are present in these immortal cell lines. The immortal cell lines are artifacts-biological products that have been modified and reproduced many times over, and they do not retain the natural function of the tissue from which they were derived. They are not “body parts” in any meaningful or morally relevant sense. Does the production and use of any of the vaccines contribute to, cooperate with, or promote any abortion? Again, the answer is no, for the abortions from which cell lines such as HEK293 were derived happened decades ago, and no further fetal tissue is used or needed for the maintenance of these lines. Common to all pro-life witness is recognition that the apparent elective abortion that led to the derivation of the HEK293 cell line was morally impermissible and involved the unjust taking of a human life. But to repeat, the HEK293 cell line currently used around the globe in scientific research and those like it do not contain the remains of any human being and so its use does not show disrespect for human remains, any more than the contemporary use of products, such as roads or train lines, that were constructed by unjustly enslaved human beings, or use of land unjustly taken, shows disrespect for those victims in the distant past. As a descriptive matter, some pro-life advocates may prefer to use one vaccine rather than another in order to witness against the evil of abortion, or to signal special respect for the unborn babies whose lives were lost. Again, we agree with Bishop Rhoades that such a choice is a matter for their conscience. But we think it a mistake to say both that these vaccines are morally permissible to use and yet that some ought to be preferred to others. There appears to us to be no real distinction between the vaccines in terms of their connection to an abortion many decades ago, and thus the moral starting point is one of equivalence. Moreover, there might be good reasons for some persons to prefer or to promote the vaccines, such as Johnson & Johnson, that use HEK293 (and PER.C6) for manufacture rather than testing, namely, that the J&J vaccine requires only one dose, does not require storage at extremely low temperature, and thus may be more useful in reaching remote or otherwise underserved populations. Those who have special reasons to take the J&J vaccine should not, we believe, be led to think that they are choosing something that in other ways is more morally tainted than the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines. Persons with access to these vaccines have strong moral reasons to take them: in doing so, they build up the herd immunity that will provide the greatest possible protection for the most vulnerable among us, including the elderly, those with pre-existing conditions, some minority populations, and the many other seemingly random victims of severe COVID-19. To be perfectly clear, we are not saying that people are justified in using and promoting these vaccines because the great goods they provide offset the evil of appropriating a prior wicked action. Rather, we believe that there is no such impermissible cooperation or appropriation here. The attenuated and remote connection to abortions performed decades ago and the absence of any incentive for future abortions offer little if any moral reasons against accepting this welcome advance of science. Anderson, Ph.D., President of the Ethics and Public Policy Center Father Nicanor Pier Giorgio Austriaco, O.P., Ph.D., S.T.D., Professor of Biology and of Theology, Providence College Maureen Condic, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Neurobiology, University of Utah Father Kevin Flannery, S.J., Ph.D, Emeritus Professor of Philosophy, Pontifical Gregorian University Robert P. Since the abortion was not performed for the purpose of vaccines, why should it be immoral to use the cells that are thousands of generations removed from the original cells? An analogy: suicide is a sin (or at least a grave offense). If a person commits suicide, can his or her donated organs be used to save someone’s life?
@@donquixote3927 A fetus can’t commit suicide because it isn’t a person, but that’s not the point. My point is why can’t the fruits of a sin be used for the good of society (as long as the sin isn’t committed in order to create those fruits)?
Thank you so much Fr. Casey for this video. You have helped me decide about this vaccine. May God bless you and your family. Our Lady and St Joseph please pray for all our hardworking priests and religious.
If your life depended on it.... you would take it. Otherwise you may be committing passive suicide.... which goes against Christian teaching also! You're not a maryter because you're not being asked to denounce your faith and die for that reason alone!
Alice would you rather die and unnecessarily leave loved ones behind? Using the stolen bank money analogy. After 53 yrs and bank no longer exists. Someone gives you that stolen money specifically for charity. You refuse to give it away and burn it. Let’s say as a result of not giving the stolen money to charity, 1,000 or more kids die of starvation. Who, then, in the present moment, is charged with immediate moral culpability for not preventing the death of those 1,000 or more innocent children?
If this is ethical, then why do we have to be persuaded, reminded, pressured, lied to, incentivized, coerced, bullied, socially shamed, guilt-tripped, threatened, punished and criminalized... If all of this is considered necessary to gain our compliance, is this morally acceptable?
Yeah, that cleared it up!🤪. I’m more confused now than before! Im having a bit of a problem on where you really stand Father, it’s a little ambiguous to me. I’m a 63 year old devout Catholic nurse with a compromised immune system out there taking care of the sick. Do I wish there was an ethical vaccine available to the public? Of course, all obedient Catholics do, but there isn’t. I don’t care if the fetal stem cells were derived 100 years ago, it doesn’t make it any less evil than if it were produced yesterday. They’ll have to throw me on the floor and force the vaccine on me against my will. This nurse is not taking it, in my opinion you cannot justify any form of evil no matter how you flip it around to seem good. Just my humble opinion. I’ll take my chances with the immune system God gave me until an ethical vaccine comes out. I’ll do my best to keep myself in the state of Grace and if it comes to it and I lose the battle against the virus, so be it. God help us to do His Will no matter the battle ahead of us.
I am 100 percent with you. Once you know about where you got the chance to live longer ( through the blood of innocents) you cannot take advantage of that. You will forever live with the fact that you used a baby's life for your own benefit. I don't need a priest or the USCCB telling me in so many confusing words that I can partake of that sinful cup to know it's wrong.
Dear Catholic Nurse: If your medical doctor does not recommend you take any Covid vaccine, then if you don’t take you are doing it for justified medical reasons and if fall to Covid you’ll have peace of mind. However, if you bypass any medical expert and do not get clearance NOT to take it, and yet you personally refuse to take an ethical or viable Covid vaccine and as a result you unnecessarily fall to Covid and patient quality care drops or hospital is understaffed in your absence and more people die, you could be guilty of moral negligence .
Father, is there any way this video could be edited so that the drop box would list the Charlotte Lozier Institute website for us to check the list of currently approved vaccines? I had to fast forward to that section to locate the current list but I think the list will change with time, so having that website would be most helpful. Thank you for all the topics you cover! It is refreshing to see your generation stepping up to the plate for Jesus. You generally deliver grand slams, too.
Your discussion and dissection of morality is incredibly interesting and inspires me to reevaluate my own beliefs on a few things. It takes a calm and sympathetic tone to teach somebody, the many channels out there that do nothing but howl, cuss and insult their ideological opponents would be wise to find some inspiration in these videos. Keep up the good work!
How about your knowledge of the evil, does it then matter in the participation? For example, is your participation with the vaccine that uses abortion for the production or testing then make it acceptable of the vaccine regardless of the remoteness? Can’t they say that it was moral to use aborted cells because it produced a good?
How does this work out with the churches knowledge of the actions of the Nazis and their lack of actions? How about the supplying of Priests to the Axis armies? Both of these seem to be evil to me.
The Catholic Church (as an organization, lay Catholics are a mixed bag) have long been bending over backwards for whoever is in authority. Then they thought Nazi Germany might win so they cooperated, now that left wing secularism is in vogue, they cater to them, in spite of the obvious contradiction.
Why do you regurgitate such historical lies? Pope Pius XII constantly broadcast condemnations of Nazi policies and practices from Vatican radio and had all Church facilities hiding as many Jews as possible. When he was in pre-war Germany, he spoke out against the rise of Nazism constantly, in every single homily at every single Mass he performed.
I don't consider covid dangerous enough to risk my health by using obviously rushed products. Concerning morality of vaccine made on base using tissue from abortions I recommend Sensus Fidelium's video with Fr Ripperger, who talks about it in detail.
@@munenex You know... I actually never thought of it that way. I don't know if it changes my stance on the vaccine but it gives me something to think about.
Be careful not to get into 'humanism'. This comment sound like that. What we need is God. Covid is a judgement for sin and if we don't repent, it won't be the last. Using a vaccine prevents disease. Thus, supporting past evil (I.e. morally questionably produced vaccines) leads to the prevention of future harm (i.e. children / population getting ill)
@Amanda What we have to consider is that, the ethically compromised vaccines, (I.e the ones done with aborted fetus tissue) should be used as long as there is no other ethically better vaccines. That we may use those ethically compromised vaccines now, if there is an absence of ethically good vaccines, dosen't mean that we must always support them, as we are tasked to protect all life, be it unborn or those who have already been born, the damage done to the outside world if we refuse to get this vaccine is ultimately greater and worse than if we take the vaccine as far away enablers of the sin of abortion ( I dont remember the term). We must ultimately try and use the moderns or Pfizer vaccines, as they are the more ethical ones, and we must continue to support, talk and push towards methods of investigation and formation of vaccines and medical treatments that suppose no need of aborted tissue, we can help science and vaccine production to be closer to ethics , as it is not impossible, like moderna and Pfizer shows us. Pd: I may have gotten some of the message wrong, feel free to respond, ask and correct the message, while keeping civil discussion. Have a good morning/evening or night
@Amanda exactly...did you hear him basically demonise any of us that have a problem with this?? It's like looking for loopholes to commit mortal sin with no regard for our eternal souls.
@@Mman07311 Which one? All of the vaccines available in the US have a connection to abortion. Vaccines without abortion haven't come out yet. Here at least.
I trust Bishop Schneider, Bishop Vigano, and Cardinal Burke much more than Fr. Casey though. Fr. Casey might say some ok things once in a while but I think overall he's dangerous and is leading Catholics astray.
I see it like this: If someone is murdered, but is a registered organ doner, is it participation in the act of the murder to recieve their organ, which you vitally need? The evil has been committed, that's done. Whether you choose to accept the organ or not does not negate the fact that their life has been taken in the most horrible way possible. What acceptind does, however, is allow the stollen life to, in its own way, bring new life where previously it had not. How problematic is this perspective? TH-cam comments, do your thing...
I see it as using a terrible situation for a greater good. Same with the vaccine which uses aborted tissue cells, though I don’t think it should become common practice to seek out aborted foetus’ for science, just as it wouldn’t be right to seek out murder victims to harvest organs from. Both are wrong, but the greater good needs to be taken into account. Preserving and saving lives is one of the cardinal values of the church, after all.
Sorry but you can in no way compare those two situations. The murder victim is a willing donor and nobody profits financially from the murder in your scenario but the mass murdering of the unborn and the production of vaccines on the other hand is an industry that is worth billions to all involved. The abortionists are also probably selling these dead baby cells to the vaccine producers. Also recieving a dead person's organs is more than likely going to directly save someone's life whereas the vaccine is just potentially going to stop you from getting a virus that in the case of covid will more than likely not kill or seriously effect you even if you did get it. Sorry but none of that justifies taking these vaccines to me and l won't be guilt tripped into it by anyone, not even the Pope himself. The road to heaven is narrow and not many make it to the end.
I thought the same. My fear though is that this would assuage a woman’s guilt about going in for an abortion. “It’s ok,” she’ll tell herself. “One life will save more.” But the life growing in her womb would get no say.
@@dayanais0127 not only that but it's going to have the same effect on a lot of people regarding abortions in general...they'll start becoming immune to the horrors of it and start thinking that the murdering of babies in the womb isn't so bad after all, not if their deaths potentially benefit others in the long run. We even have the Church encouraging that mentality now. It's sick as far as I'm concerned. It's just people compromising their morals for worldly comforts and benefits.
I'm thankful your doing this talk all my family have received the vaccine my mom being a nurse has been pushing me especially since my drs are sure I have an auto immune disorder trying to narrow it down to which one. Even my preist told me I should get one.
Father, you kept on using the term "fetus" . The Democrats stick to this term and never call it unborn baby. Understandably, to make conscience callous and portray abortion as nothing more than a surgery to remove an unwanted growth. That speaks volume of your stand on the issue, why you titled one of your video "Abortion is Not That Important"
Thank you so much for this very important information!! It has helped me a lot, as I have been confused and troubled lately about receiving the vaccine and if it's ok for me as a catholic. May God bless and Mother Mary protect you. 🙏🏻
It is my understanding that fetal cell lines were used in at least the testing of them. I have a sister who is also in the medical field and is willing to lose her job by not taking it. God does not give us these big opportunities all the time to do the good - be an example to others. We must grab them.
@@monicamohan4720 I have still not decided if I'm going to take the vaccine. I will think it over and consider it. It's a decision everyone has to make on his/her own. The bishop of my diocese has taken the vaccine already and Pope Francis too...
We are expected to live and carry on with our lives to the full and NOT to kill ourselves and so the perhaps the Popes decision to take the vaccine is right for the good and all after all !
Isn't there also the factor that we, as Catholics, should demand that vaccines be developed that do not utilize aborted baby cell lines in any way, shape or form?
Interesting that this article is referenced in the more recent 2020 Vatican statement "Note on the morality of using some anti-covid-19 vaccines" as an "important pronouncement", yet the link to the 2005 article, footnote #3, leads to the wrong article, a 2017 PAF article which heavily promotes vaccination and excuses for it.
If the papacy has approved things that are derived from murder of babies, then the papacy is not Catholic at all; and all that matters is the evidence *against* the word of God in this case.
@@USMC98 “Thou shall not kill (murder)” also applies to people who refuse to take precautions and do not take the vaccine and as a result become agents of infection and end up fatally infecting families, parishioners, friends and co-workers. WOW, people, take the vaccine. As good sons and daughters of Holy Mother Church we must trust Her in her proclamations. She has the wisdom to clarify moral issues. Fr Casey is an example.

@@melk6720 yes, and we know that prayer worked so well in keeping good Christians healthy and alive during every single other outbreak of disease in human history. Which is why no Christmas - either churchgoers or pastors - have gotten sick or died yet from this one. Prayer has kept each and every one of them safe and alive. So all those outbreaks in churches that have caused a few deaths of members of the congregations and a few pastors are just proof that they don’t really believe or pray correctly, right? God would surely have saved them if they were true Christians and God would have intervened to save their lives otherwise.
Being aware whether murder was involved, ALONG WITH the presence of an enzyme referred to in the scientific community as "Luciferase" should be the issues reflected on.
Wow it's really sad hearing this young priest making excuses about this evil vaccine making it okay if someone health is in danger really sad,,, One thing I know 100% we all are going to answer to God for the decisions that we made,, and for the other ones to be brought along,,,, Blessed Mother Mary to receive for us so we can always be courageous in the decisions that we make and always say no to sin,,, examine a conscious live in the state of grace that's what's really more important
Very interesting video, but I would like to pose a question. We know that often abortions are not done so that scientists have cells to work with, but those that are used by scientists are very much an after thought, so, does that make any difference, taking what was evil and trying to do good with it? In a way, not too dissimilar to eating meat sacrificed to idols.
With a survival rate of 99%, what justification can be made when it comes to injecting yourself with something that has just as much potential to harm the individual taking the shot? Also can’t it be said that prayer would serve us better? I personally trust God with my health more than I do man.
Yeah l especially loved the guilt trip at the end when he told us that if we still have an issue with this that we're really bad people...so grateful for that.

This is a very important point, I hope more people can see it

Thank you.
a priority in comparison to a large number of avoidable deaths given the existence of a vaccine

Shouldn’t we use our “well-formed conscience” to make this decision??
Indeed we should.
Father Casey is literally helping people have a well-formed conscience with this video

The only think I'd add to the video is this quote from the Vatican Statement on Vaccines Derived From Aborted Human Fetuses: "Therefore, doctors and fathers of families have a duty to take recourse to alternative vaccines (if they exist),
putting pressure on the political authorities and health systems so that other vaccines without moral problems
become available. They should take recourse, if necessary, to the use of conscientious objection
with regard to
the use of vaccines produced by means of cell lines of aborted human foetal origin. Equally, they should oppose
by all means (in writing, through the various associations, mass media, etc.) the vaccines which do not yet have
morally acceptable alternatives, creating pressure so that alternative vaccines are prepared, which are not
connected with the abortion of a human foetus, and requesting rigorous legal control of the pharmaceutical
industry producers."
Which mainstream vaccines and since when? First I’ve heard of this and I’ve been listening to Catholic radio for over a decade
Read and pray through Psalm 91 ...hold onto the promises of God for He is faithful!
I am more concerned about the long-term effects of the vaccines...in the next few years, are different cancers going to show up--especially from the RNA ones? That would be worse than Covid!
Thank you Fr. Casey. The silence of our bishops on this issue is "deafening". God Bless You Always. St. Joseph, pray for us.
"As Catholics, we have a moral obligation to prevent the production of vaccines as a result of abortions, but we ALSO have a moral obligation to protect life outside of the womb exposed to dangerous diseases."

Getting to heaven should be our main goal and profiting from the murder of the unborn isn't gonna get us there.

@JaneCOGNITIVE DISSIDENT I heard about the "flase positives HIV" but not the other 2, can you link me where you heard or read that?
@JaneCOGNITIVE DISSIDENT Don’t spread your nonsense keep it to yourself
If we begin to scrutinize every thing we do every day, we will all see we are in some way connected to something we personally find immoral or unethical. We would be paralyzed in our daily lives. We need to use some common sense here.
If you're encouraging people to turn a blind eye to their own personal sin, well I would ask you to reconsider.

Statement from Pro-Life Catholic Scholars on the Moral Acceptability of Receiving COVID-19 Vaccines
Note: EPPC has organized the following statement from leading pro-life Catholic scholars, including EPPC President Ryan T.
But these differences are irrelevant to the following questions:
Do any of the vaccines make more use than others of the mortal remains of unborn children from whom the cell lines were derived?

Any catholic should not have it.
But he said , that was years ago aborted, , some how justifying, like that 🤔
Here's another question: Were vaccines ever ethical throughout humanity's history?
Yes they were.
Can’t this be simplified into;
A: if you truly have to do x to survive, then you doing x is not unethical?
B: the trolley problem.

Amen to that
You're confused because it makes no sense.

But what if the victim was not registered organ donor? What if the victim wasn't yet mature or able to make that kind of a choice....like children?
Even my preist told me I should get one.
go with the pfizer vaccine it doesnt use cell lines from aborted fetuses
ding ding ding,,a priest is only a man and he cannot forgive anything only GOD
Father, you kept on using the term "fetus" . The Democrats stick to this term and never call it unborn baby. Understandably, to make conscience callous and portray abortion as nothing more than a surgery to remove an unwanted growth.
That speaks volume of your stand on the issue, why you titled one of your video "Abortion is Not That Important"
Thank you so much for this very important information!! It has helped me a lot, as I have been confused and troubled lately about receiving the vaccine and if it's ok for me as a catholic. I'm a nurse and probably I will have to take the vaccine or lose my job. There has been so much confusing information from some catholics regarding the ethical and moral problems cencerning the vaccine. Now I have some clarity. Thank you a lot, Fr. Casey. May God bless and Mother Mary protect you. 🙏🏻
Christoph Magagna u scared about losing ur job then loss ur soul... do not listen to him
It is my understanding that fetal cell lines were used in at least the testing of them.
@@christophmagagna3014 yes, but sadly, what a Bishop or the Pope does is no longer the determinate of what is the right thing to do.
Yes! See 2005 document from Pontifical Academy for Life: "Moral reflections on vaccines prepared from cells derived from aborted human foetuses".
@@nancybornyi5440 thank you! I'll check it out!
Has this priest been to the Tower of Bable because he is certainly confounding the people?
If the papacy has approved things that are derived from murder of babies, then the papacy is not Catholic at all; and all that matters is the evidence *against* the word of God in this case.
How do we know how much remoteness counts as enough to remove sufficient culpability?
Do we sort of just feel it out?
Ooooh. Went too far on that last statement. If it’s so morally clear, then why does it still feel wrong?
That's your conscience (God) telling you it is in fact wrong.
@@USMC98 “Thou shall not kill (murder)” also applies to people who refuse to take precautions and do not take the vaccine and as a result become agents of infection and end up fatally infecting families, parishioners, friends and co-workers. This is an immediate violation of love of neighbor. Thus, through ignorance and stubbornness to not take ethically available vaccine they become material agents of death. WOW, people, take the vaccine. As good sons and daughters of Holy Mother Church we must trust Her in her proclamations. She has the wisdom to clarify moral issues. Fr Casey is an example.
God has everything in hand, He won't allow us to kill anyone through catching the coronavirus if we are defending His Sacred little babies. If our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, I'm sure He won't want to dwell there if we have taken the vaccine out of fear. Do not fear, 365 times in the bible
@@mikeyangel1067 lmao that's completely false, we have no proof the vaccine works, and the virus has a 99% survival rate, there's a difference between intentionally getting people sick vs getting sick through natural transmission, shut your mouth if you know nothing of moral theology
Being aware whether murder was involved, ALONG WITH the presence of an enzyme referred to in the scientific community as "Luciferase" should be the issues reflected on.
luciferase comes from the Latin lux, lucis, which means light
I only see this many months after I've had my vaccines... and I breathed a sigh of relief when you said Moderna was ethical.
Nope, it’s not. Pfizer, moderna and J&J all used tissue.
Wow it's really sad hearing this young priest making excuses about this evil vaccine making it okay if someone health is in danger really sad,,,
One thing I know 100% we all are going to answer to God for the decisions that we made,, and for the other ones to be brought along,,,, Blessed Mother Mary to receive for us so we can always be courageous in the decisions that we make and always say no to sin,,, examine a conscious live in the state of grace that's what's really more important
please do a video on Eschatology, very interested to hear the catholic understanding.
@@fathercaseycole8478 Ok, that had absolutely nothing to do with anything I said. And I doubt you gleamed that much from my profile.
That was obviously a fake account. My account is verified.
@@BreakingInTheHabit I kinda figured.
I really like this channel and Father Casey but I still strongly disagree and so does my parish Priest.
With a survival rate of 99%, what justification can be made when it comes to injecting yourself with something that has just as much potential to harm the individual taking the shot? Also can’t it be said that prayer would serve us better? I personally trust God with my health more than I do man.
Thank you Father. You did a wonderful job in explaining to all of us. Good Bless you
God bless you
Yeah l especially loved the guilt trip at the end when he told us that if we still have an issue with this that we're really bad people...so grateful for that.
Your Father is in Heaven,,,not this guy,,Uh who did he father?,,God the Father Fathered us all out souls,,,,priest are not fathers unless they sinned. In Jesus time the Priest could marry.
Wow! What a loaded subject. This controversy would test St. Thomas Aquinas. You did a great job explaining the ethical problems and position of the Church regarding the taking of these vaccines Father. Kudos
He would laugh about it tbh. Simple yes to God and no to world. Stop loving your life that much, we don't belong here.
The Catholic church should obtain permission for voluntary vaccine and those not taking vaccine should not be harrased by the government.
I'd go further and say there shouldn't be compulsory vaccinations period. And I plan on getting either the Moderna or Pfizer vaccines.
@@carissstewart3211 I would not recommend this vaccine to anyone because it will alter the RNA and DNA structure which will and is causing sivere side-effects. The most important point of not taking the vaccine is it is funded by Bill gates who plans to depopulate the world through vaccination. He has mentioned that in red talks. There is a satanic agenda called agenda 2030 the elites (illuminati) are trying to implement and depopulation is one of its main agenda, so that once large number of people get killed then they can implement new world order which can possibly be the time of antichrist. The third temple has also started to rebuild and the Jews are claiming to have found the Messiah.
A host of ethically produced vaccines to choose from? We don't get to choose in the UK.
