Fun fact, quail eggs have a thicker membrane than chicken eggs. While for chicken eggs it is basically garaunteed opened with the shell unless you are really over the top trying like this, quail eggs even have a chance of not opening when dropped with the shell being partially lost (don't waste eggs, but I have seen it accidentally). This also varies how you open the egg, with just cracking a chicken egg. Whilst for the quail egg, you sort of get a mark into the membrane and peel it off enough to pour the egg out. The quail egg shell is also much softer to break, so peeling like that makes it easier to avoid getting the shell in the egg than if you tried imitating a chicken egg break, since the quail egg would just kinda mush together

Me an my friend got board at an SCA event and just started carving the eggs, the larger the egg we found the better as the shells were more rigid and a bit of water to keep the membrane from tearing off so easy.
btw chickens can lay shell-less eggs if they have a calcium deficiency, so yeah sometimes you can go out to the coop and get one of these fresh out the chicken oven
Or if they are surprised and lay them early! Happens sometimes to my birds. One of them laid egg midair on the roost one night 😂 They form from the inside out so it’s not necessarily just from a deficiency
