She doesn’t need to know that much about the book. She gets a script and she bases her character off of the script. Also, just because she didn’t do well in the game doesn’t mean she doesn’t know about the books. Secondly, she doesn’t need to look exactly like Annabeth. Rick Riordan, the AUTHOR of Percy Jackson and director of the show chose to cast her. He created her and he chose her to play Annabeth. Rick based her character off of chemistry and her personality. If Rick picked a blonde girl but she didn’t have a good personality that fits with Annabeth, it would ruin the show much more than just based off of her looks.

I think Rick absolutely made the decision because he wanted a diverse Annabeth, not because of talent. The quote was “she was quickly the best option.” If she was so quick to “embody Annabeth,” why does she still seem off in the THIRD episode.
