I recently picked up one of these in the full kit on facebook marketplace for $40. Gave it a quick setup and repackaged it. Took it to a toys for tots box and dropped it in. You should too!
I really enjoy these videos. I brought a guitar tuner you recommended years ago and its fantastic. There is good quality gear these days without the huge price if you research, and channels like this help.
I have bought 6 Glarry strats as modification platforms. I usually upgrade with a fret job, Metallor locking tuners, Guyker tremolo's, a loaded pickguard of different configurations, and D'Addario 9's, nickel wounds. I've had to route the tremolo wider to accommodate the thicker base on 2. Black is the only color I've bought that I find to be a sub-par finish. Guitar $55 - $65. Total cost w/upgrade around $130 - 140. I haven't found a guitar that matches the quality of my builds for under $249. Glarry is a great mod platform. Make sure to buy the model with the Glarry on the headstock. There are 2 levels of quality.
Good advice but i'd play safe and go direct from Glarry as I did have a lemon from ebay with their logo on. I asked when purchasing another direct and apparently they sell their A grade direct and pass on everything else to others. The £16 difference was worth it.
Once I learned to do my own setup and fretwork getting a budget guitar to play great was no longer a mystery. My 'pro' tip is check your circle for someone who either is or knows a guitar nerd who will help you get one of these 'cheap' instruments set up and take the plunge. I got a First Act strat playing so good once I almost put nice pickups in it and kept it as a daily player. It was a $20 craigslist find that is how I got better at fret work. Buy for nothing and do the work then sell it and get your money back.
I have three, now Max knows this, that tremolo is not set up yet, the six screws have to be loosened so it can pivot, floating set up the back of the trim is about 1/8 inch off the deck, can also set it up flat, or set it up as hardtail and put a wood block in by the springs, there are Utube vids on it. It has to have the screws loosened just a bit so it can pivot,, and then balance the tension between the strings and the springs in the back, loosen or tighten the springs by turning the screws in the claw, also spring placement can effect tension, and how many. Now ther are advantages and disadvantages to having a floating tremolo, such as changing tuning will change spring tension. The tremolo comes set up as a hardtail. So floating you may want more than one guitar , because of the time it takes to retune if gig playing. I have learned to play on these guitars, then I developed a liking for the wizard bound neck with low action, got a jackson JS20, its a 179 dollar guitar on sale, ill match it against any 4000 dollar guitar with cheaper hardware, its about the bones, are they good, I still have glarys as backup, I still grab them to play. I dont want a 500 dollar floyd rose tremolo, not yet anyway, I will change tuners 80 bucks, floating wilkenson trem 40 bucks, locking nut and string guide, 30 bucks, maybe copper tape with conductive glue inside all cavities, that js is equal to any guitar made, I will polish the jumbo frets, fine steel wool, maybe touch up fret ends, after a point your paying for whats on the guitar, diy saves money if you have skills, Utube videos on it all.
I have purchased many Glarry guitars over the years and find the quality to be good and improving. They are a solid foundation for doing modifications. So in the end, with a bit of work they can make a really great useable guitar that holds up to everyday use and abuse.
Sounds pretty good. Is the price really 30% more considering this one came with an amp and your other one didn't? Just a thought. Also, what happened to the Garry that was similar to an SG in style? People seemed to like it but it has just disappeared. Thanks for your reviews, I really enjoy them
I have purchased a heap of cheap guitars and I have to say apart from a few I bought the quality of them has been pretty good. The great thing about purchasing a cheap guitar is that you can purchase your own parts and upgrade them to something that’s comparable to a mid or high priced guitar. As long as you have the skills to fix any issues that may arise and you have the hardware, you can create something that’s very useable. At the moment I’m building my dream Tele and Strat from parts I’ve been collecting for a while.
Max, you are great and very entertaining, as well(love the hair flips!). I have been watching long enough to realize I haven't ever seen an acoustic in your hands-but, maybe you could do an "in one take" review for the Firefly acoustic(the "thin" one").....??
I think that they are underrated, they make a great mod platform, I recently did some mods on the Skull Garry Strat.Had to do some filing on the low friction nut and had to make sure that I used a 35mm block on the replacement bridge but fairly easy to mod.
My buddy is a professional musician and he bought a Glary P Bass for fun just to see if it was any good, around the same price.... He is a fellow YT'er...Don't worry I won't promote.... and he did a review on it.... He was very pleased for what it was. I've played it myself and enjoyed it. He did a full set up to it and ditched the factory strings for playibility but it's mostly stock still. For $100 with a nice set up and maybe a tuner upgrade this is a nice platform to play with and upgrade.
I had a Glarry Burning Fire electric and a Glarry GIB 4 string bass. I had to do a couple of upgrades to both. I replaced the tuners on the BF with locking ones, and replaced the nut on the bass with a brass one.
I bought a Glary Strat copy. First off I tried to change the strings like I always do on cheap guitars anyway. But the strings would not come out of the bridge, so I pulled it off and they were stuck in the tone block. Or should I say tone sliver. I’ve never seen such a thin tone block on anything. So I ordered a brass block from Guitar Fetish and when I went to change it out I took off all of the string guides on the bridge and discovered that no two holes that attached the bridge to the body lined up. So I filled the holes with tooth picks and glue. Let them dry for a couple days and redrilled all of the pilot holes. Then o moved on the the neck which wasn’t sanded and sanded it until it was smooth, then gave it several coats of F One Oil. Since then I got new pickups which were really cheap, but tested on another channel. After that two or three other products came in so I’ll finish those before going back to the Glary. Meanwhile my friend bought one of their Tele style guitars and everything worked fine. So maybe mine was built before happy hour on a Friday night and they just threw it together. No matter what though, I won’t reccomend one to anybody!
I have a single Glarry guitar that I bought specifically to be a project guitar. It was "ok" right out of the box, but definitely not great. I mean it was mostly playable with some basic setup. Action was really high, frets were alright, and it sounded ok. For a beginner guitar though it does what it needs to do. The reason I bought it though was because I liked the look of it. So I wanted it to be something I could learn how to mod with. Which I've been doing since I got it. Now, I have a couple of other guitars just as cheap, but no where near as ready to use out of the box. Those were the KTaxon branded ones. Those are awful. I ended up reshipping 3 of those back to Zon and Flea Bay because well.. they all required a lot of work out of the box to even be played. I tried with replacements and the replacements were just as bad if not worse. Seriously going though a good handful of those and they all had major functional issues. Just to say, if you look around on various places these Glarry guitars can be found very cheap. Places like Flea Bay, Team Moo, Ally Xpress tend to sell these for a lot cheaper.
My friend comes around to my place and sees some of the budget models I have bought over the years, I told him budget guitars have come a long way recently, he must have said something to his GF as she bought him a Glarry Tele, it was a steaming pile of sheet! He sent it back and bought a Harley Benton TC 52.
I love to see reviews on amyove electric guitars or even an aliexpress brand called "smiger" they have nice affordable ovation style guitars, with really beautiful finishes. Amyove, also for a cheap guitar, has built in chorus and delay, room reverb, and hall reverb, and distortion analog, for about $80 to $120. Pretty cool too, and hardly any reviews. Only like one guy reviewed a previous made model, but not the one mentioned with built in existing mods.
I think they are great for what they are. A beginner would never know if its shortcomings. A seasoned player will notice all the downfalls almost immediately, lol I bought one of the Mustang style guitars, i wanted to try a 24" scale as i never have even played one. Needless to say that i ended up buying an aftermarket neck, and the neck needs some work too, but the wood in the Glarry neck almost seemed like balsa wood to me, lol
Great Vid again Maxx!!! Glarry, Monoprice are great staters and especially for projects. Harley Benton is a great step up of course at twice the price. Then of course for your money right now is Firefly that is kicking it for the price Bar Cords down!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What I’ve always wondered is why any company would include routing for a trem if they know the using a trem will just throw the thing out of tune. Why not just use a hard tail bridge with a string-through body? Squier won’t even do that anymore without a top-loading bridge. Glarry could 1-up them with that.
I have a sunburst Glarry that I have floated the tremolo bridge and it stays in tune when I use the whammy bar. A vintage 6 screw tremolo will stay in tune if the strings are strung through the tuners correctly, all friction points are lubricated, the nut cut correctly, etc... Checkout the FruduaTV YT channel and setup your guitar like he says. You'll be amazed how well any guitar will stay in tune.
You can get the whammy to work decently . You just have to tune it a few times like a Floyd. You can hear the strings slip when you hit it the first time.
actually you don’t necessarily need a Floyd Rose to stay in tune,my schecter has a non locked trem it’s a two point pivot bridge and has locking tuners and it stays in tune pretty well although i don’t go crazy with the trem bar
Keeping in mind this is a beginner level guitar, if I were buying for a kid to get their first experience, I think a better package would be a hardtail, and rather than including a cheap strap, and the whammy bar, a electronic tuner would probably be welcome. I think a guitar that stays in tune and helping a beginner learn how to tune a guitar makes the experience of learning more enjoyable. I can tell you that I still to this day can't tune by ear.
A few hours of my time getting the "unplayable" to play is well worth the hundreds you save as compared to "name" brands. Besides ive seen just as many problems, in reviews, with the "name" brands as i have with the "budget" brands. Cant see paying the difference when you cant see the difference.
Bought a Glarry T-Type Guitar during the Pandemic, ($70 USD)Plays just fine, It's my banger now, play it more than my Fenders; eventually put a Seymour-Duncan "Hot for Tele" pickup set in it, it will really squawk, now.
you should take a look at NEWEN , a brand from Argentina that make super affordable guitars almost under 100$ super high quality made from south American wood.
The problem with Glarrys are you could by 3 of them for $80 each. One plays like a $200 guitar, one plays like an $80 guitar and one plays like a piece of firewood.
This is just my experience, but I have bought 4 Garry axes all were fairly cheap, money wise, but that also means material is cheaper, wood, pick ups, bridges, nuts, wires, you get the idea, however for 100$ be happy with a good body and a good neck. From that statement you should be able to put together the rest of this, you have to set these guitars up , one needed a bridge adjustment and neck adjustment, expected in my opinion, the rest needed full set ups and the cheapest one 70$ strat like had to be gutted and well if you don't know what that entails don't buy these guitars, if you do then fine, turned out to be a Great sounding guitar, with alot of pacientance and work, strangely enough bout the black version of your deal everything the same, just a black super strat. That is the one that had least done to it, now these are decent mod guitars, but to just buy and play, may not be what you want 16:50
What happened to your video about the striped Firefly guitar that was posted a couple days ago? I wanted to finish watching it, but it seems to have disappeared.
Not bad for the money 🤑🤑🤑💰 However if you can change the Strings get a bone nut. New Donlis pickups or Music Lilly pickups next Fret Work TEMU ALI-EXPRESS Amazon Walmart online eBay great Guitar Tool Kits lots of you tube videos on setups modifications etc.. Guyker hardware New Pots New Switch ..You are at around $200 .. However IMO Donner or West Creek or Leo Jamz IYV Fire Fly 💸💸 better bang for the beginning player .. Also I have Found You Can Gig no Mods for the brands that I mentioned... Also Donner has Kits like the 100 and the 152 that comes with decent gig bag nice accessories and accessory bag like picks Strap Cord min 5 Watt amp that is decent for practicing.. dust cloth. Tools for intonation.. extra strings that are nice for beginners.... . $160 to $200 Cheers 🍻🥃🥃🎸🎵🎶🎶
Mexican strat is only worth about 300$ to me, i guess four hundred with a case American strat are better go through more extensive quality control checks. But anyway glarry aren't bad had a couple before. Can't beat it for the price.
I've had nothing but bad experiences with Glarry guitars. Their bass was excellent though. I don't know if they've improved any hadn't bought anything with the Glarry name since 2020
I have heard so many youtubers talk really bad about Glarry but this thing sounds badaas through your amp settings, I have never tried Glarry but I have had lots of cheap guitars over the years and actually prefer them to my expensive guitars I used to buy as years ago when a cheap $100 used squier played just as good as my $1,000 Gibson studio Les Paul I quit wasting money on expensive guitars & with all the cheapies I have owned in the last decade never had a major issue with any of them
Thank you Max; awesome factual and to the point video. Glarry has the reputation for the low end budget market and for that portion of the market it's an absolute value king of the market. Your right the trem sucks but a decent trem alone will cost over the whole cost of the guitar. This is a basic first learning instrument but can be an upgrade platform as well. It lends itself well to develop ones basic luthier skills as well, which is a good thing and will help make a starting player a better player and continue interest in guitar. So overall I agree 100% with your review video. 73 GOD bless Earnest K5EWM 👍.
It's a good guitar to learn how to do stuff like upgrading and setting up. But it's not something that has great sound out of the box. And yeah, I bought one just to see.
Or neck profile or overall weight. So called reviewers never talk about the stuff that matters to buyers. How these thigs compare to the burning fire you reviewed? Essential info, not given.
It’s more about the amp than it is the guitar anyway, crappy amp = crappy sound period. Pedals, plugins, etc. are merely icing on a cake that should’ve tasted good without them prior. Knowing how to set a guitar up properly is key as well, a tiring debate that’s went on for decades. There is no best, it’s what ya do with what ya got, the rest it merely personal preference, experience, trial and error, technique, genre, blah blah blah. Nitpicking at its best. 😉
Hey Max. It's funny you said that some people expect so much more than that for $100. There's some people who expect a 1959 Gibson Les Paul and a 1959 Fender Bassman amp (all original, of course) for that price. Unrealistic.
I bought a clarry bass years back and it was the worse instrument ever the kneck was bent beyond repair i bought a new kneck but regardless it just sounded horrible I ended up useing it as firewood
Glarry? You're joking, right? (Okay, maybe for beginners who aren't sure about a commitment, but I maintain that beginners need playability. These cheapies invariably do not have that.)
I agree, this is beginner Junk, period. What seems good at "first" on a solid state amp will DEFINITELY sound like shit threw a larger Tube amp.....the pickups will Quickly show their lack of quality.
My sister bought expensive left handed guitars to learn on instead of cheaper ones. She had an ESP Kirk Hammett and a Gretsch. If she would've told me she was going to learn guitar, I would've recommended Glarry to start on.
Most Glarrys I’ve seen are garbage. Personal opinion: There are better guitars out there for the money. Sure, one can do setup and fretwork on a Glarry to make them playable, but your average beginner is probably not going to have the expertise to do that.
Get them now because as soon as hitler takes over this same guitar will be $ 300 at least! Trump will make everything much more expensive with his tariffs! So we as guitar players are screwed . Not a joke, not hyperbole.
They're garbage. I know first hand. I have 4 of the Strats. I'll never buy cheap guitars again. Tired of countless hours of trying to get them to play right. Total 💩
@ckelly5141 I collect and modify Strats. Do everything myself. 2 of them turned out great. But not before countless hours of painstaking work. I can't recommend them. I bought them for daily players. The parts I put on costs more than the guitar and I buy budget pups etc. A guitar techs labor would be a few hundred bucks minimum making it totally not worth it.
I have had expensive Gibsons and sub $100 guitars and in my experience have never had a problem with the cheapies I have bought although I have never tried Glarry, I have bought the cheapest Squier's, Best Choice Products and Lxy Pro and all of them have played every bit as good as my $1,000 Gibson Les Paul studio, so I believe you have run into some bad ones or maybe I have just been extremely lucky but I am a bug fan of cheap ass guitars and with all the hundreds of dollars I save I can upgrade them and still save hundreds, so I will never buy an expensive guitar again as $400 is as high as I will ever drop on one but most will be less than $150 for me
I recently picked up one of these in the full kit on facebook marketplace for $40. Gave it a quick setup and repackaged it. Took it to a toys for tots box and dropped it in. You should too!
That's what we do..get others up and running good deeds for the cause.
That's awesome.. Some kid is gonna get a special gift.
I like how the coloring on the headstock is a bit darker than the fretboard. Looks cool. Glarrys aren't bad if you're willing to do the setup on them.
Yep
i buy cheap guitars, i buy expensive guitars and i still cant play worth a shit lmaoo
Shoulda used some of that expensive guitar money for lessons. 🤣
Me too
Me three😅
If I owned that guitar, I would put locking tuners on it and change the pickups. And probably change out the nut.
Same here
I really enjoy these videos. I brought a guitar tuner you recommended years ago and its fantastic. There is good quality gear these days without the huge price if you research, and channels like this help.
I have a Glarry Super-strat copy that I love. It needed some TLC out of the box, but turned out pretty awesome once I set it up.

I appreciate the tuning torture. We got the full ride. Sounds fine at a great price Max
"The G String is very loose, but sometimes that happens."
The audience "thats what she said."
Sounds pretty good. Is the price really 30% more considering this one came with an amp and your other one didn't? Just a thought. Also, what happened to the Garry that was similar to an SG in style? People seemed to like it but it has just disappeared. Thanks for your reviews, I really enjoy them

I also wish Max would do some more acoustic stuff. Every great metal band always has those sick acoustic tracks!
Thanks, just a fun review with no politics. That's a neat guitar for the money. Like you said, cheaper than going to the grocery store. Thanks again.
I have the green version of the same. It was abut 75 bucks. I put a set of 3 mini humbucker hotrails in it.
Really enjoy your reviews!

The problem with Glarrys are you could by 3 of them for $80 each. One plays like a $200 guitar, one plays like an $80 guitar and one plays like a piece of firewood.
The man with the best hair on TH-cam
The guitar does look pretty good.
What happened to your video about the striped Firefly guitar that was posted a couple days ago? I wanted to finish watching it, but it seems to have disappeared.
Instant click as soon as this popped up🔥
Not bad for the money 🤑🤑🤑💰 However if you can change the Strings get a bone nut. Also Donner has Kits like the 100 and the 152 that comes with decent gig bag nice accessories and accessory bag like picks Strap Cord min 5 Watt amp that is decent for practicing.. dust cloth. Tools for intonation.. extra strings that are nice for beginners.... . $160 to $200 Cheers 🍻🥃🥃🎸🎵🎶🎶
long time player. recent subscriber. thanks for your videos.
The Thing about these Glarry guitars is that they can be modified to play and sound nicely..
You crack me up, you shredder you . . .G string indeed.
Mexican strat is only worth about 300$ to me, i guess four hundred with a case American strat are better go through more extensive quality control checks. But anyway glarry aren't bad had a couple before. Can't beat it for the price.
Very good mod platform, or if you want to learn to fix guitars. Playable as is, better with some luv....
I've had nothing but bad experiences with Glarry guitars. Their bass was excellent though. I don't know if they've improved any hadn't bought anything with the Glarry name since 2020
I think the guitar is decent. The amp,not so much. I would hardtail the bridge and put good tuning machines on it and copper shield the electronics.
I have heard so many youtubers talk really bad about Glarry but this thing sounds badaas through your amp settings, I have never tried Glarry but I have had lots of cheap guitars over the years and actually prefer them to my expensive guitars I used to buy as years ago when a cheap $100 used squier played just as good as my $1,000 Gibson studio Les Paul I quit wasting money on expensive guitars & with all the cheapies I have owned in the last decade never had a major issue with any of them
For this little money, I don't know why anyone would complain!
Thanks for the thoughtful review, I agree with everything you said!
A better deal than a Trump guitar!
And probably the same manufacturer
Yeah, I guess..... if you could even get one.
We going to Make Guitars Great Again, baby!
Not at all
If you get one with his original signature, it will be worth a lot more in the future
It's a good guitar to learn how to do stuff like upgrading and setting up. But it's not something that has great sound out of the box. And yeah, I bought one just to see.
But can it chug?...
Don't pay 110 or more for these.
They are like 70 bucks with free shipping on eBay.
Glarry is still Cherry
You totaly refuse to mention they are neck heavy
Red shirt
Hurry cause after tariffs it will go up
haha a loose g string is a good thing
Hey Max. It's funny you said that some people expect so much more than that for $100. There's some people who expect a 1959 Gibson Les Paul and a 1959 Fender Bassman amp (all original, of course) for that price. Unrealistic.
For these kinda prices just get something used of facebook
the fact you didnt even LOOK at the tuners before playing shows you dont know proper maintenance.
9:06. the G string was very loose. that's what she said
I bought a clarry bass years back and it was the worse instrument ever the kneck was bent beyond repair i bought a new kneck but regardless it just sounded horrible I ended up useing it as firewood
Glarry? You're joking, right? (Okay, maybe for beginners who aren't sure about a commitment, but I maintain that beginners need playability. These cheapies invariably do not have that.)
I agree, this is beginner Junk, period. What seems good at "first" on a solid state amp will DEFINITELY sound like shit threw a larger Tube amp.....the pickups will Quickly show their lack of quality.
test
Yo!
Gibson has been real quiet since this dropped
My sister bought expensive left handed guitars to learn on instead of cheaper ones. She had an ESP Kirk Hammett and a Gretsch. If she would've told me she was going to learn guitar, I would've recommended Glarry to start on.
Most Glarrys I’ve seen are garbage. Personal opinion: There are better guitars out there for the money. Sure, one can do setup and fretwork on a Glarry to make them playable, but your average beginner is probably not going to have the expertise to do that.
That half smile when he said the G string was loose 😂
Too funny!
Get them now because as soon as hitler takes over this same guitar will be $ 300 at least! Trump will make everything much more expensive with his tariffs! So we as guitar players are screwed . Not a joke, not hyperbole.
Learn to do fret work, buy cheap guitars.
They're garbage. I know first hand. I have 4 of the Strats. I'll never buy cheap guitars again. Tired of countless hours of trying to get them to play right. Total 💩
Why did you buy the other 3 then?
@Trig242 Because of the colors/ prices and it's slim pickins for lefty budget Strats.
So let me try to understand: these are crap so you decided to buy 4 of them? 🎸🎸🎸🎸🙄
I have had expensive Gibsons and sub $100 guitars and in my experience have never had a problem with the cheapies I have bought although I have never tried Glarry, I have bought the cheapest Squier's, Best Choice Products and Lxy Pro and all of them have played every bit as good as my $1,000 Gibson Les Paul studio, so I believe you have run into some bad ones or maybe I have just been extremely lucky but I am a bug fan of cheap ass guitars and with all the hundreds of dollars I save I can upgrade them and still save hundreds, so I will never buy an expensive guitar again as $400 is as high as I will ever drop on one but most will be less than $150 for me
Sorry man , I have fender Strat when I use the bar it doesn't go out of tune that often.😅😅. I do enjoy your reviews. Keep it up.
Wait till the tariffs kick in...
I'd like to see reviewers put on a good set of strings and review it. I think people who buy cheap guitars can afford 10 bucks for new strings !
I bought the Nux mighty air stereo wireless amp from musicians friend 🌈🪄 saved 29.45 for 182.00
Nice!
Glarry is still Cherry
