    This video it's from last year..
    As today 3-05-23 the rate exchange it's
    $1 usd = 17.97 pesos.

      @loscabosmexicoanamericansp3383  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      yes I know...as I said in the video the rate will fluctuate and it's a very close estimate. so if you have something for 100 pesos's at 20 to 1 it would be worth $5 USD, at $18 to 1 (I'm rounding up your number for today by 3 cents) it is $5.55 still a pretty close estimate...I never said it was exact but thanks for pointing out that in real life these numbers change.

    So say something I buy is like 2000 pesos. Would I just give them two 1000 peso bills? And or like 600 peso I just add both bill together like you do in US? Like a 500 peso and a 100 together

    • @loscabosmexicoanamericansp3383
      @loscabosmexicoanamericansp3383  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      yes, you pay the total just as you do in the US. If something is 2,000 you can give them 4 $500 peso's...or 20 $100 pesos. The largest bill I've seen is 500 Pesos...which is about $25 US. Most people will take US dollars too but you get the better rate by paying in pesos. Have fun!

    Hi, what do I divide by when the rate is 16.30 or 17.62? The money has been a lot better for the peso this past year. What's easy way using calculator? (I wish it were still 20)

    • @OldSchoolPrepper
      @OldSchoolPrepper 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      hi Kat, so when the convertion rates are not nice round numbers its impossible to do in your head unless you are a savant. So you'll need a calculator, get a good one on your phone it's the easiest method. So let's say the exchange is 16.30 and you want to buy something for 300 pesos...just put in 300 then divide by 16.30 and you'll get $18.40 (300/16.30= $18.40) Please realize that most everyone in Mexico is not going to give you the going rate of exchange. Your credit card is the best bet to get the best exact. If you are in a small restaurant/grocery store or working with a small shop they might give you 16 to 1 or more likely 15 to 1. If you go to get gas or shop at Walmart/Costco etc there will be a HUGE sign near the cash registers or near the driveway (gas station to put near the drive ways) that have a number plus the works CAMBIO ...Cambio means 'change' or 'exchange' So what i'm saying is that using exact numbers of what the daily exchage rate is does't work in real life in Mexico... people are going to be more loosy goosey with the money. I live in Mexico for 4 months a year and just returned back to Oregon. It was wonderful...I hope you have a blast.

    I don't know if I understand but I went to exchange money at bank today. I had a 500 peso bill. But I had good amount of them 25 bills of 500 pesos. And came back and only got around 70 dollars back in us money. Not sure if I got ripped off or that is just the exchange rate

    • @reborn756
      @reborn756 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It depends, if you exchange money IN Mexico, you should get all your money, but if you do it in the USA, they only give you specific values, normally multiples of 100 or 200, keeping the differance for themselves or have commissions.
      I almost got ripped off 180 Mexican Pesos, about 9 USD, because they didn't had bills of 50 nor a 100 and they didn't gave any other kind of exchange.
      Of course I did the math really fast and protested, telling them to give me back the differance since I only wanted to exchange a very specific amount of the money I gave them, not all of it, getting my 180 MXN back in USD and exchanging only what they could give me.

    • @loscabosmexicoanamericansp3383
      @loscabosmexicoanamericansp3383  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      My US bank (Chase) allows me to order Pesos before I even leave...24 hrs later I just go pick them up...that is the best way. If you are in Mexico the best way to get Pesos is to go to an ATM INSIDE A BANK LOBBY and withdraw Pesos. Do NOT withdraw US dollars from the Mexico ATMs (the tack on fees at both ends). Using a random ATM to withdraw Pesos from the US is possible but the Fee's are high too...plus you don't want to get robbed (robbery is really low in Mexico, but why chance it) so if you go to an ATM inside a bank (I like Banco) they usually have a guard at the door...do your stuff and then pocket the money before you leave the lobby... Don't use one of those "exchange" places you they give you a really low exchage rate. I think today the USD to Peso is 20 Peso's to 1 US Dollar but the "cambio's" (it means change) are like 17.5 to 1 dollar...you aren't loosing a ton of money but why take cany loss. Finally in all of Baja you can spend US Dollars but you'll get change in Pesos...however you are up to their mercy when they decide what the exchange rate is.

    Back to the 1st problem.
    Is the .16 done the same way.
    1 ....1÷2. ( 20.1) or (20.5) ?

    • @OldSchoolPrepper
      @OldSchoolPrepper 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      it gets more complicated when the numbers aren't round to intervals of 5....You can do it 2 ways...1) start with the US dollar amount (or whatever your home country is) and then divide by the current Peso rate...which you said is 16 today so 1/ 16 = 0.625 cents per 1 peso...basically 6 cents per Peso...I prefer way 2) take 16 and divide by 1= 16 which means 1 USD is 16 pesos...you definetly need a calculator as this gets more complicated very quickly. so grab your phone while in Mexico...look at the Peso amount and just divide it by 16 and you will be close enough (it won't be exact, but really really close)

      yea no, that works for a 10 to 1 exchange...that doesn't work for the USD (20 to 1) nor CAD (13.50 to 1) so... no let's NOT do that unless your dollar (where ever you are) is 10:1

    • @OldSchoolPrepper
      @OldSchoolPrepper 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      well, it WAS....now the conversion rate is around 16 Peso's to 1 USD , in the video it was 20 Peso to 1 USD...so you can still use that trick but the estimate would be VERY approximate....using your example NOW the converstion rate would make tht 1000 Pesos would be $62.50 American....so if you want to be accurate, pull out a calculator...for small armouns you'd be in the ball park tho....like 100 pesos used to be $5 USD, now it's $6.50.
