The only thing I like about this guy is that he painted a car drievn by Dale Earnhardt in the year 2000.

I'd love to see Peter Max paint a Boeing 777 for Ubited Airlineswith his psychedelic figures and vibrant colors. Then after that Diesel Locomotives for CSX, Norfolk Southen and Amtrak.

I was asked to do a memorial piece for big fan. I gotta figure out how to turn the 41st state. Little difficult but challenging. But what a honor. Though I am not a fan of the Beatles. I'm more of the Doors n Black Sabbath n Styper myself. But dig the imgination n loved ol animations of Peter Max.

He did not make the BLUE meanies....The animation design of Yellow Submarine has sometimes been incorrectly attributed to famous psychedelic pop art artist of the era Peter Max, but the film's art director was Heinz Edelmann.

Heinz Edelmann was the real Beatles artist.Thats where the true phychedlic art is.

they base it off of how many pieces, how popular, location, duration, population, etc. Not that it matters, but I don't know many Americans over the age of 30 who haven't seen his colorful Statue of Liberty. Granted, most people don't know it's his when they see it.

Enough of the brazen lie about Heinz Edelmann already. He didn't need to imitate Max and his bland RGB pap. He had plenty of style and imagination, and mountains of credit under his belt, well before Max came onto the scene. Just check the archives of any important graphic art publication, like Graphis. Edelmann is a constant presence from the late Fifties till the Eighties, while Max is a flash in the pan under the "1968 hippy poster" tag, and that's it. The fact he repeatedly postured, before an ignorant American audience, as the one who had done the job for the Yellow Submarine movie, going as far as to call Edelmann an imitator, shows a deplorable character. He should be sued by the Edelmann estate. Too much is too much.

Yes, you are correct and only the uneducated give Peter credit for Yellow Submarine. Edelmann well preceded Peter Max. He was more of an artist than you might think.
I did an infomercial for him in 1983 and he was trying to promote his fine art, which really never took off. I paid attention to the fact that his pop art really had nothing to do with the Beatles or Yellow Submarine. Although Ringo did commission him to paint a piano in the Peter Max style for him.
He was genuinely a very nice man and I spent many days in his studio on the upper west side and he was truly trying to get people to take him seriously as a fine artist. If you look at the work of Jean Dubuffet, there is a definite influence there "Art is constantly Evolving". However, there was not that much money in that kind of art and he made a lot more splash in popularity from his signature color and design that was unique...very much an Andy Warhol influence more than Edelman.
If you take a look at the CBS This Morning piece above, you will see that fine-art influence, but only in the postcard drawing the reporter shows that he sketched with her crew in an interview from 1999. It is at the end of the CBS piece.
This image is iconic throughout his fine art and permeates the landscape much as Dubuffet's images in his work as well. I don't think much attention has been drawn to his other work outside of the pop-art, photo enhancements, celebrity stylings, etc.
I think the work he did with Taylor Swift was trying to push the envelope in certain pieces, however, I don't think it truly hit his soul like that image from his fine art. I never really got into what was behind that image and I regret not delving more into the soul behind that
It is exactly the same style he was promoting in the informercial he did with me. An Iconic artist of our time? Yes. He had a major influence on art for decades and unfortunately a misunderstood fine artist, in which I think his heart truly lived.
