It is always interesting watching apocalypse movies taking place in countries where the citizens aren't allowed to own weapons. Many of the plot holes are because they were removed from the book: He secured his house but his neighboor (A pharmacist) is who keeps him company, but that idiot also had a small .22 gun for hunting, and he attracts a lot of zeds to their possition, Manel escapes on his car with his cat after barely dodging a few zeds (Also in the books they don't sprint, they are the slow, walking ones) From the beggining Manel wants to go to his boat, on the book however he jumps into a river that crosses there, keeping the cat on a floating small gadget he prepared for Luculo. Once on the boat he goes south but gets taken by the same boat, there the captain does talk spanish (though broken) and asks him to "retrieve" a package, a package that is a black suit with supposed orders. In this travel he meets Viktor, who tells him he's a firefighter for the Xunta da galicia, hired for the summer season as there are numerous wildfires each summer, the government of Galicia (like a state of spain, for those american fellows) and tells him that there's an helicopter resting on a forest base, but is damaged and needs a specific part that is on the post office. Of course, in the book, Viktor is still Ucranian. In that travel the cat is still on the ship, and Manel and Viktor remain on a small store for a week as the group they sent with them to retrieve that luggage dies from a zombie horde. Then they go to the post office of the town, retrieve the suitcase and the small part, but they are smart and find another suitcase and make a switcheroo In the book the guys of the ship don't know the helicopter is there, they do want the suitcase though, and as indicated on this video, once is done they are of no use, so they want to kill Manel and Viktor, but they are smart and show the switcheroo, Manel saying that he will trade the "real" suitcase in exchange of provisions, a gun and the cat, they agreed, but Manel knows they won't do it easily, so he hides the boat on a nearby shore (the book indicates the ship is anchored on the docks near riverbeds), delivers all the supplies to a car they had hidden, put a manekin in the captain place and let the boat go away, getting soon shot by many machineguns and an RPG, ending in it's destruction. They try to open the suitcase of the rusians but it's rigged for the people who don't know how to open it, blowing on Viktor's hands and making him lose a finger in the process, that's why Manel want to go to the hospital, cause his mind of a lawyer is just thinking that wounded should go to the hospital. On the hospital happens almost the same but no kids and no russians following, Sor Cecilia and Lucia are the only ones alive on the hospital, taking refuge on the kitchens where they had food enough to survive (This is explained by Lucia, who tells she is a survivor that was left there by her parents as they were doctors, never to return. they were enclosed there as the military that were making guard were a little too handsy with the ladies). After Lucia's rescue to both Viktor and Manel and as Luculo already charmed the young nurse (who on the book is just a teenager that was left there) they all enter the safehouse of the kitchen where they spend a few weeks. Manel and Viktor taking a sweet Stress Relief break as Sor Cecilia is a somewhat psychologist, telling they both have PTSD from what happened. (As I readed the book almost 10 years ago, I don't know if it's PTSD or Survivor's guilt) After a few weeks, there is an electric storm (quite common in Galicia as this is taking in late summer/early autumn, instead of winter) and the nearby forest caught a wildfire, without human help the fire spreaded wildly, threatening the hospital, so they make a plan to leave. On the book they say that the zombies, probably as an instinct deep in their brains escaped already, sensing the fire would catch them, this gives the group enough time to catch an offroad car and drive to the base where the helicopter is, going from the coast of galicia south until reaching Western Sahara and then towards Canarias. Also will add that even if it's common to find 9mm bullets if you find a cop, in this situation is more likely that Manel could find a military grade weapon in the hospital, as indicated above, some military men took guard on the hospital. So yeah, many plot holes to fill that were left empty, also the story is quite changed on many places, but if you like it more, I recommend to buy the 3 books that are of this saga, I call them the Galicia saga. The Canarias Saga and the ???? Saga (avoiding it for spoilers) (One example of what is changed, for example, is the baby zombie, is not on a boat but on a maritime shop where he gets the new harpoons, he hears a ruckus and investigates a house built just behind the store, finding the baby on a crib and her mother that unalived herself, he takes the mercy shot as well)
If I was in that guy's position when the zombie apocalypse started and I KNOW that I own a boat then I'm gathering as many supplies as I can and I'll look for the nearest uninhabited island I can find and making it my new safe house. I would probably have a radio on me to keep taps on what is going on in the main land and would only ever go back if I was running short on supplies or fuel.
yeah, wait it out on the boat and keep in contact to see where to land, it may be dangerous in its own right, but its a hell of a lot safer then staying in a city. (personally a mountain may be the best option here, something steep but with some flat land and infrastructure, zombies likely will meander downhill cause they are dumb and its the path of least resistance so odds are it will remain fairly clear of zombies and people will be the main issue) Islands are good, but that's where everyone will try to go, so go where people forget.
Yeah that’s the part that pissed me off, grab as much supplies as you can on the first day of the apocalypse where everything is still relatively ‘normal’ grab food, water, medical, entertainment, building supplies (he knows how to weld and presumably build) grab that cops gun, build weapons like knives or spears and find a small island he can fortify.
@@speedy01247a mountain would be good too because it has vegetation can be consumed by humans, animals (like goats, foxes, deer, boar etc) that he can hunt and eat and its harder for zombies and humans to reach him.
Im from that specific region in Spain and i can tell you that not only are plenty of uninhabited islands close to the coast (even a rowing boat will get you to most) but many have infrastructure with solar panels, small houses and even some small military bases from the Navy.
There is actually an anime on Netflix called Zom100 and in one of the episodes, the main character uses a shark suit to protect from bites. He notes the zombie’s teeth don’t penetrate but the bites still hurt. Safe but still a bit painful
18:45 I'd try to find a motorized bike; they're much quieter than a dirtbike, much easier to ride for long distances than a bicycle, and usually have a battery pack which could be charged with the solar panels. If that's not an option, Nerd is definitely right because he always is, bike.
@@lydellb Well, some, maybe most, of them. Mine is way too heavy to use without the battery. honestly never get why peeps in these movies never use hard liquor in water. Was the old way ships kept drinkable water on ship on long voyages, if you don't know how it transfers having extra steps to ensure clean sterile water becomes as important as a mask and eye protection.
Alcohol increases your water consumption. I havent seen any statistics on how effective a certain concentration is versus how much it will increase that consumption. Keeping tablets for water purification would be easier as they have a shelf life of 5 years or even more and its not as inconvenient as keeping bottles of alcohol
@@Valkbg when water was iffy, it was common to drink grog, mead and beer (the old low percentage not 5%) as a water alternative. Some area's even actively discouraged drinking the water due to high pollution in cities via sewage and contaminated rivers. Gotta admit, I know it shouldn't be a priority in this situation, but I am SOOOOO glad Lucalo made it. Every time I saw him in a clip I got worried that this would be his last appearance. And yeah, I agree, the last portion with the Russians following them to the hospital was probably for adding runtime. @@cryingbananajo But a motorcycle objectively attracts many more zombies by comparison, and is loads more dangerous to crash (let alone if a zombie jumps on you at that speed), so it's not really much better either way. But there's no way to use a motorcycle without attracting half the dang city's worth of zombies to wherever you stop using it, which just means you'd endlessly be on the run.
If you're in shape, and your area isn't particularly hilly. I used to ride one to work 3 miles away, and going up the hills was slow and tiring. Honestly I'd rather just be on foot. As a massive fan of the books, I still liked the movie. It took some different turns in the storytelling but my only major issue was the casting of most characters. They didn't feel like the book characters at all. Ushakov is supposed to be a very big man that lifts the main character up by his throat. Prit is supposed to a short man with a big blonde mustache that reminds people of Asterix. So the casting didn't feel well thought out.
As a Spanish person that lives quite close to the place all this story is happening, I want to point out a couple of things because I was laughing at them heavily: - We tend to follow government orders if we consider them more or less reasonable. We would probably try to stop or at least look very bad at a person taking more than two items if that's the maximum hahahaha - He probably didn't go for the gun because we are not used to them. Simply that. Either you are a police person or a militar one, or you are a hunter; if you are not any of those, here it's quite common to ignore the gun hahaha Also: those solar panels in Galicia are not going to get that much energy power, just saying hahahaha
In a 20 foot cutter with mediocre wind, it would take you about 18 days to sail 800 Nm, considering you sail at about 6 knots for 8 hours. At low wind you'd be trolleying about 4 knots, making your estimated sail time far longer, about a month and a half, but that's COMPLETELY doable in a 20 foot cutter. Not to mention, ships like that DO have gas and You could probably rig the gas station to pump some gas tanks. Cutters like that would be rocking an engine trolley of about 20-40HP, but even that big boy would only give you a knot of speed at it's maximum setting, usually used to maneveur, but you could totally hitch up old granny, Clean up house, and take a double shift instead of anchoring for the night, making your travel time 16 hours a day instead of 8, reducing your time frame back down to 15 days at MOST with the weakest winds. He could EASILY get to the Canary islands in under a month and even the amount of food in the first 'good luck find' would have been enough. There's a few calculators for sailors available, and even that says with suboptimal winds, 800nm can be traveled by 6 knot ships in about 5-6 days if you're consistantly getting 6 knois, or 12 days at 4. 1 knot is guaranteed from your engine, so this is really a non issue.

Always consider taking large packa of wild birdseed, the grains are the same as standard domestic crop grains and you grow and mill them for long term food. Also get packs of dried beans so you have a good option for growing protein. Those redugees who come on board without any other skills would just be put to work farming after a quarantine period.
if project zomboid showed me anything is that the best way to survive is to grind and exploit your way to eliminate and kill infected by the thousands, an elevated positon or a very sturdy wall with a hole and a long metal spear shuld do the trick
Considering the guy is rich with the workshop and diving hobby i would reckon that the dry/diving suit is quite expensive and more on the durable side so i wouldn't count it out on protecting against bites and some sharp objects especially if it's made by neoprene since it can make suits more resistant to a shark bite. Obviously the force of the bite and the sort of like head swipe sharks do as they bite onto something is different but still nevertheless a human bite can't compare to a shark bite so it is probably highly protective against a human bite.

A zombie apocalypse in england would be pretty similar as we aren't even allowed to carry pepper spray. Most people would die, having to wait till the zombie got close and use your kitchen knife to take them out.
I kept noticing your complaints about Manel not having a knife/melee weapon, but couldn't he just use a separate harpoon bolt as a melee weapon and stab the zombies with it? He secured his house but his neighboor (A pharmacist) is who keeps him company, but that idiot also had a small .22 gun for hunting, and he attracts a lot of zeds to their possition, Manel escapes on his car with his cat after barely dodging a few zeds (Also in the books they don't sprint, they are the slow, walking ones)
From the beggining Manel wants to go to his boat, on the book however he jumps into a river that crosses there, keeping the cat on a floating small gadget he prepared for Luculo.
Then they go to the post office of the town, retrieve the suitcase and the small part, but they are smart and find another suitcase and make a switcheroo
In the book the guys of the ship don't know the helicopter is there, they do want the suitcase though, and as indicated on this video, once is done they are of no use, so they want to kill Manel and Viktor, but they are smart and show the switcheroo, Manel saying that he will trade the "real" suitcase in exchange of provisions, a gun and the cat, they agreed, but Manel knows they won't do it easily, so he hides the boat on a nearby shore (the book indicates the ship is anchored on the docks near riverbeds), delivers all the supplies to a car they had hidden, put a manekin in the captain place and let the boat go away, getting soon shot by many machineguns and an RPG, ending in it's destruction.
(As I readed the book almost 10 years ago, I don't know if it's PTSD or Survivor's guilt)
After a few weeks, there is an electric storm (quite common in Galicia as this is taking in late summer/early autumn, instead of winter) and the nearby forest caught a wildfire, without human help the fire spreaded wildly, threatening the hospital, so they make a plan to leave.
Saga (avoiding it for spoilers)
(One example of what is changed, for example, is the baby zombie, is not on a boat but on a maritime shop where he gets the new harpoons, he hears a ruckus and investigates a house built just behind the store, finding the baby on a crib and her mother that unalived herself, he takes the mercy shot as well)
TLDR
Get the books! Or audio books!
It is worth it!

Wow thanks. It sounds like it would make a good TV show, idk why they decided to make a lackluster film instead.
That was the stupid part of the movie, he has a boat, knows how to operate it, then does nothing with it lol. Still a good movie though.
Im from that specific region in Spain and i can tell you that not only are plenty of uninhabited islands close to the coast (even a rowing boat will get you to most) but many have infrastructure with solar panels, small houses and even some small military bases from the Navy.
I love zombie movies especially when nerd covers them

And it's still useful after the battery dies.

Yea sure that is something everyone knows.
There is now way that group would waste the resources to go out looking for one translator/helicopter pilot when they've got such a good set up stealing/killing stragglers.
I absolutely adore the “they’re too spazzy” and that BOATS ARE THE KEY.
People really underate how useful bicycles would be in a zombie apocalypse
@@cryingbananajo But a motorcycle objectively attracts many more zombies by comparison, and is loads more dangerous to crash (let alone if a zombie jumps on you at that speed), so it's not really much better either way. Bicycles have the advantage of speed and stealth, which is super handy when trying to do supply runs. But there's no way to use a motorcycle without attracting half the dang city's worth of zombies to wherever you stop using it, which just means you'd endlessly be on the run.
I would say electric bikes regenerative braking thingy more speed still stealthy
If you're in shape, and your area isn't particularly hilly.
I used to ride one to work 3 miles away, and going up the hills was slow and tiring.
Honestly I'd rather just be on foot. Easier to travel paths that are too difficult for zombies or hidden, and you don't have to return to where you left it at the end of your supply run.
But hooking it up to generate a bit of power, that's what I'd use one for.
@@kamikeserpentail3778 nah, I've been in the same situation. I biked to work and had a HUGE hill on the way and yeah, I would have to walk it up that hill, but it was still easier to push it with my gear then it would have been to carry it all. Plus the range before you get tired and speed to get you away from dangerous situations. I still say bike.I can get my bike up and down mountain paths and apt elevators, there's not much you can't maneuver them through carefully. @@mom.left.me.at.michaels9951 Hi bike gang, I live on a gigantic hill and have to go at least 5 miles to go there and back to anywhere. I use my bike almost every day. I can outrun a zombie for miles, and go quietly at that. I can also probably constastantly make 12 mph or so for 10 miles.
34:51 What you said about the protag managing to not get lost in the hospital's hallways... Yessir.
I used to work in a fairly big hospital. Took me a LONG time to learn my way around. And even then, whenever I needed to venture outside my department (i.e. deliver something to another building of the hospital), I was practically a deer in headlights. XD XD XD
This movie overall... one plot contrivance after another, one plot armor after another, one dumb decision by the protag after another -- rinse and repeat.
Now, I realize that in any movie, the writers have to force certain events to happen, so the story can actually take place; but audiences are not dumb.
Exactly, I've been in hospitals and clinics a few times and, even when being led around by someone who knows their way, am so confused.
Literally the zombie movie only works with dvmb people, doing stupid things. 99% of zombies can only defeat humanity thanks to the plot nerfing the hell of human logic.

As a Spanish person that lives quite close to the place all this story is happening, I want to point out a couple of things because I was laughing at them heavily:
- We tend to follow government orders if we consider them more or less reasonable. We would probably try to stop or at least look very bad at a person taking more than two items if that's the maximum hahahaha
- He probably didn't go for the gun because we are not used to them. Simply that. Either you are a police person or a militar one, or you are a hunter; if you are not any of those, here it's quite common to ignore the gun hahaha
Also: those solar panels in Galicia are not going to get that much energy power, just saying hahahaha
Because the plot says so. The best way to write a movie.

Always consider taking large packa of wild birdseed, the grains are the same as standard domestic crop grains and you grow and mill them for long term food. Also get packs of dried beans so you have a good option for growing protein. The Russians on that ship if they were competent should have just been trying to start a hydroponics setup on board, raid local coastal stores for pipes, barrels, and wood and they could have easily made a mobile farm capable of feeding themselves indefinitely. Those redugees who come on board without any other skills would just be put to work farming after a quarantine period.
