Comparing a Hyrox race (1 hour effort) to the Tour de France (21 days of 5-7 hour races) is one of the worst analogies possible lol. Also, magnitude of drafting benefits are totally different between running and cycling. Nothing wrong with a smart pacing strategy, but a half marathon is 10x more comparable to a Hyrox race than the TdF
I really hope Hunter sacks this coach. For the coach to think it’s a good analogy to compare it to the tour is ridiculous. Everyone comes of the stations at different times so drafting becomes null and void. It’s only applicable in cycling because it’s a long time domain and a single exercise. It’s almost embarrassing to think this is insightful. I think James Kelly & AP have proven the most effective way to race is to drill threshold running and transitions. The notion that you can pace the first 4 runs and then increase your pace through the race won’t work. The line you run is too close and you’ll redline quickly. You might be able to simulate this in training but the reality is the stress of racing will bump your HR 5-7 beats higher so attempting this in race conditions is a recipe for disaster. The quality of the field and strength of running has improved massively and what used to work for Hunter won’t cut it anymore. I really hope he pushes for the win again but I fear this approach will lead to another poor finish like Nice.
I almost wonder if this is gamesmanship and Hunter is taking the mick by making his competitors think he will be drafting them in future races 😂😂. My only doubt is his coach doesn’t seem like the type to troll. Drafting isn’t effective for running because simply, you aren’t going that fast.
Ingebrigtsen blowing up in the Olympics 1,500m would be a suitable analogy here. He went out too hard, basically was the pace setter then faded on the home stretch.
Hunter, any advantage to your wall ball form where you’re driving those knees well beyond toes vs focusing on hip hinge helping driving the butt back more similar to a loaded back squat ?
Do you think people who aren’t AS strong can do sub 70 minute hyrox or is there certain strength parameters you think you should be able to do eg like a 40kg shoulder press… or something. I am just struggling so bad to get my erg and station times down
At the end of the day running pace is going to dictate your times most drastically. If you can run each km at 4 minutes, going sub 70 is almost guaranteed
Yep. The running is most of it. But u do have to be strong enough to move that sled. . But making time gains on the ergs should be the last of ur worries..nick bare went sub 70 and he was rowing a 1:50 500 pace. Which isn't hard to do
This is one of the worst " piece of advice " I've ever heard. Guy is a total bro, has no clue what he is talking about, the reason why the champs playing to win in TdF aren't attacking is because 1.They need guys to set a pace and be the " trial horse " / pacemaker 2.In cycling there are insane benefits to stay "in the wheel" of the pack led by the pacemaker because there is a major suction effect which means you are sparing a ton of energy to make your own attack later, especially in long stage races like Tour de France ( or even medium/long races like marathon or some track and field events )... In Hyrox there is most likely no interest/benefits with this BS strategy since you are running by yourself 90+% of the time...
is this all just lactate threshold pacing? As in, one can only go faster than the threshold for X amount of time before bonk. so stay as close as you can until the time domain is appropriate to push past threshold pace, eh? Simple concept, complex to execute correctly.
@josiahtuch565 he literally used the word drafting applied to running after explaining the positive effects of riding a bike behind your team mates. A very weird choice of words and examples if he was referring to the pacing strategy in running.

100% dude is retarded
Hyrox athletes have nothing to learn about pacing and even less about drafting from gran tour cyclists.
Half the race is downhill@@samuele.marcora
I’d probably fire this guy if I’m honest 😂
David shhhhhhh
Counting the days, Champ! 🔥
for you to share all this valuable information, you a real one🤟

Another stellar video and performance, Vegas ain't ready!
Domestique.... French word for domestic, merci & thank you❤
Lets go champ!
Doing my first this year, you are the inspiration
NICE STUFF HUNTER!! confirmed my entry for Glasgow Hyrox today in march! Managed to swipe an entry ticket last minute
Im trying to get a mixed for Manchester at the end of the month.. fingers crossed I get a ticket. Good luck for glasgow
Damn ! This is gonna be amazing 🤩 Great progress out there ! So looking forward to seeing Vegas
Which breathing strip did you decide to go with, Hunter?
I'll be racing in Vegas, looking forward to seeing you out there.
He should buy the exact same sensor/target used in Hyrox wall balls.

Indeed. And nothing to do with drafting
Toll.✨

quads tend to generate more power than glutes + less total distance going up and down = more explosive and efficient movement
So you are essentially shooting for a negative split.

Wish you and Matt Novakovich would make up. Life is too short.
This coach is full of it, I don’t see a lot of good coming from him 😬 he said a lot to say nothing
Yeahhhhh no. Stick to your day job buddy.
I genuinely hope Hunter smashes Vegas man! Need my boy Sandy to get his act together so a new doubles WR can be set...
This coach needs to go back to biomechanics 101. The effect of drafting in running is nowhere near cycling
He’s talking about pacing strategy, not literally drafting to minimize wind resistance in an indoor running event🤦🏼♂️
@josiahtuch565 he literally used the word drafting applied to running after explaining the positive effects of riding a bike behind your team mates. A very weird choice of words and examples if he was referring to the pacing strategy in running.
Tutte chiacchiere
Yeah this guy is not it 🥴
i didn't realize this was gonna be a "you're awesome hunter" video. misleading title dude.
Like comparing a 5k to 100 metre
This is cool but whats your fran time?😆🫣.
I Enjoy the content, keep it coming!
haha good point, on Strava he logged 54:09 :)
