    The "How I edit my shorts" section may be the single most coherent and concise breakdown of the only workable mindset towards making great, sticky online videos that people want to watch - thinking about the subjective experience of your audience and trying to make that as pleasurable, interesting, and evocative as possible.

    Florian, thank you so much for all the content, it is a true blessing having you on this platform. I started watching your videos about a year ago, and when I began with my first pottery course the teachers didn’t understand why I know everything already. :) I have my own home studio now and still learning a lot from you. Pottery is amazing and it is largely because of you that I found it. Thank you so much 🙏

    Having studied photography and filmmaking, and worked in the industry I am surprised that you still doing all that by yourself and with "IMovie!", as you said that alone is basically a full time job. So I appreciate you were pretty open about youtube's income. People (and more even so British people😄) try to avoid those questions. You have earned every penny of it. Your videos and photos have, with no doubt, your maker's stamp too. You see one and know it is a Florian Gadsby.. the only thing I am missing on this video is a photo of what you consider a bad one from your beginnings. To give us something to hold on if we feel we are there😆

    Great clip. Thanks. Just a note on lenses. 50 to 70mm are called normal, meaning they ‘see’ the same as the human eye. They are designed to have as little distortion as possible. Same with any micro/macro lens of any mm. If you go above or below 50 to 70 with other lenses regardless of the quality you will get some distortions. This isn’t always a bad thing depending what you want in the image.

    I admire anyone who can take great product photos. It’s truly an art all it’s own. I make stuff, and to sell that stuff I need to have images of said stuff…..and I’m unutterably bad at photography…..like really abysmally bad. And I know people say you can “learn”, but to learn I have to enjoy the process otherwise my weirdo brain throws up block after block, and in the end I give up.

    It amazes me how much I love watching your videos even though I don't do pottery nor film/edit anything. I just appreciate the high quality content of your pottery and videos and get mesmerized by your explanation of everything. It's beautiful to see, pleasing to hear, interesting to learn and relaxing to my mind. Thank you! Love from Brazil

    Thank you, as always, very helpful. The ball head quick release tool looks like a huge time saver, and its prime day here in the US, so I may just get one on Amazon. One thing I thought I'd tell you is that I have gotten in the habit of tethering my camera to my laptop to make sure I have a good photo and eliminate some of the clutter on my storage drives. You probably already do this but in case you don't, I thought I'd mention it.

    This was the most interesting video. It really puts me at ease about not filming in my studio. I do take photos of my work using a light box, but only when I need an image for something. (I will try the warm moisture trick.) I will just stick with watching your videos.

    @jasonproleika7481 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    But how did you film this one…

  • @meanwhile_0
    @meanwhile_0 ปีที่แล้ว

    Have you thought about bumping up the resolution you shoot at? With both phone screens and desktop monitors increasing in resolution, TH-cam's 1080p format and its lacklustre bitrate tends to lose a lot of the detail in the clay bodies you shoot. I believe the EOS 5D Mk4 is capable of 4K videography, so ultimately it'd depend on if your current Mac is up to the task of editing it.

    • @floriangadsby
      @floriangadsby  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The issue is storage space! I hate deleting footage and storing tons of 4K gets expensive quick!

  • @Zeldur
    @Zeldur ปีที่แล้ว

    You mention having to clean your hands every time you move the cameras. Could you use a piece of plastic as a barrier then clean it up at the end of the day with everything else? I know gloves would be impossible to put on cleanly

    Sir , what would you suggest me gas kiln or electric kiln for my initial stage of learning process in pottery?

    • @floriangadsby
      @floriangadsby  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, it depends on many factors! Electric kilns are typically cheaper and easier to use, so I'd go with one of those.

      @floriangadsby  ปีที่แล้ว

      I used to use it all the time. I LOVE the images it makes, they’re a bit more moody/interesting? But lately, and I can’t figure it out, it’ll take photographs like normal, so the am SD inserted. They’re they’re, on it, but when I plug it into my computer it’s like they never existed 🫠

    • @BaseReality
      @BaseReality ปีที่แล้ว

      @@floriangadsby "a bit more moody/interesting?" - I would describe them as "deep/solid". And then refuse to elaborate if someone pressed me on exactly what I meant. You've tried a new SD card?

      Wise words. I have thought about changing my video output next year to twice a month as compared to once a week - higher quality, more clips, no necessarily longer but they’d have more time invested into each. Let’s see.
