Should I get this bike? I really want to. I’ve been mountain biking since I was 9 now I’m about 14. I have a really good idea of mountain biking. I’m planning to save my OWN money for it. Any advice before I do decide to get it?

Ye bro I’m 13 picked this up nov last year it’s really good, but I have had some trouble with the front fork and knock block

@@finnlikesplanes7110 Since buying the bike I have turned 14 and upgraded to a Specialized Enduro comp with axs dropper. The problem with the fork was that it contained a lot of stiction which prevented the fork from performing at its best and made the bike not fun to ride. After having the fork serviced it seemed to bed in and work perfectly fine. The problem with the knockblock was after a while it started to not allow the bars to turn as far as normal and later on I ended up stacking and completely snapping it and I buying new knockblock parts and after having the same problem as before I decided to take the knockblock out completely. Another reason for taking it out is where I live there are lots of tight switchbacks that are required to get to the top of Belair unless of course you catch the train..... (the train is for pussies unless you have a dh). All said and done at the end of the day it is a very fun bike to ride and is a wheelie machine. Depending on your budget I can help guide you in the right direction. 😁

Do you know what the percentage of the bike’s anti squat is?
How many times have you maintained the trek fuel ex 7? By maintained I mean; how many times have you greased the pivot points and how many times have you serviced the shock.
It was a test bike we had for a few months and never did any maintenance - it never needed any.
I’m new to mountain biking and I’m really considering getting the fuel ex 7. Can you tell me if it would be worth spending the extra $700 for the ex 8 or are the differences not that much better
Hi John, the EX 8 has a few component upgrades but there is absolutely nothing wrong with the EX 7 build. These days, base level and mid-level build kits work almost as well as the top of the line stuff from a decade ago. Maybe a good option for you is to put the extra budget into good riding gear with knee pads, a good helmet and so on. Good luck. Enjoy the bike!
How tall are you and what size did you ride? I'm 5'9" would the M/L be my size? Thanks
You could make the M/L or the L work. M/L would be marginally more agile if you mostly ride tight techy trails and like to jump. L would offer more stability on high-speed trails.

Nice review thanks. In your opinion, for someone not looking at competing, is the EX 7 fine or does it makes sense to pay the extra for the EX 8?
Hi Pierre, - if you can, go for the EX 8. If it were me I would go for the EX 8. Just about all the components are one level up. The big performance changes are the fork, an excellent rear shock, better brakes, better drivetrain and a faster-engagement on the rear hub. There is definitely a smoother ride on the EX 8. I did have a lot of fun on the EX 7, but the base level build kit is not as smooth and efficient as on the EX 8. Plus it is about 1.2kg lighter. I am getting the 2021 version of this in May. Trying to find out if its going to be good for jumps. I have trails and jumps and would like to do both pretty equally.
Bunny hopping and manuals are not too good for it since it is so heavy. I currently use it, but I would look up the best mountain bikes of 2021 and go from there. Really research the specs. Also, it is not good for climbing up rocky, rooty, steep hills. I have done that for 6.5 miles at Indian springs trail and my legs were killing me after that.
How does this bike compare to Merida one twenty xt? Or Whyte s150? I’m looking for a good bike to do it all. I tried the fuel ex 7 today at the local bike shop and it felt very good! Climbing and grass hill in medium shock mode and full lock out on road felt good compared to some Enuro 29ers I have been on eg Marin alpine trail 7. What’s it like down hill Eg slabs and rock gardens at speed. Do you think this is an all day mini enduro? And also good for access roads?
I ride a wide variety of trails in New Zealand and am only allowed one bike!
Hey Marty, the Merida is an excellent bike - a lot of fun to ride which you can also do endurance races on. The new 130mm Fuel EX is more trail orientated, more downcountry like and more enduro like. My trails are mixed(nz has soo much good riding)! So I think I will run a 3 bike cheep quiver instead of a 1 expensive do it all bike. 1 hardtail, 1 XC one twenty and a 2nd Hand DH uplift/shuttle bike!
3 bikes are better than that one!
What tires do you recommend for climbing? I feel this 29x2.6 are to slow and fat lol
They are big meats which are great for gnarly trails. Whilst they are light (ie: good for climbing) for a 2.6, you are right in that they won't get you up the climbs like a 700g xc type option. The right option depends on how fast you wanna go up and how gnarly the trails are you are on; basically, you could look at a Bontrager XR3 in 2.2 or 2.4 or something similar which has a smaller tread pattern in the center. Everything is a compromise, the lighter you go the more risk you carry on technical trails. The XR3 is a very strong casing, the 2.4 is very impressive and handles a lot of hammering
How did you find it going over the jumps didn’t bottom out ??

How this model behaves on long climbings ( 3 to 5 km) with its 2.6 tires and its 66 (66.5 modifiable) angle?
This Fuel EX is a better climber better than the previous generation.

I am thinking to change both tires because I usually do long climbings and long distances too. But also, I would like to get more into the trailing way. I am thinking about changing to a XR 2.4 (Bontrager) in the front tire and a XR 2.3 in the rear tire, what you think about that?
@@vidalmercado6380 It all depends on the trails you ride and if you want to focus on climbing speed or durability on rough trails. There are some pretty GNARLY rocks in Mexico. Best to experiment and see what works for you and where you ride. Pin it!

Hi Lee, Both the bikes you are talking about are excellent climbers within their category - 130mm rear, trail 29er. You can't go wrong with either of those bikes. Some advice: try get to a demo day or ask your local bike store for a demo bike, try them on your trails and see which one you prefer. Both bikes are really good. Shout if you need further info
BIKE NETWORK thanks.i have both these brands were I live so should be able to demo both,I was set on the trance but then read a few reviews saying the seat tube angle is to slack,and was a bit worried about the fuel being heavier this year but it doesn’t sound like that has affected its climbing ability,but yes demo is the way to go👍

Its great bike. We had zero issues and needed zero maintenance with it for the few months we had it. Frame is strong and it has a warranty.

They are 29 X 2.6" tyres so not plus-sized no. Thank goodness!

So oddball fork. Oddball cassette, Oh just wait for maintenance or upgrades, Save money, Buy some other brand, At least you might get off the shelf parts.
