Remember that teams like Hendrick, Rausch, Gibbs and Childress were given their charters. 23xi trackhouse, and others had to buy charters. Pretty crappy if the big teams, who have no charter investment to sign a deal that does nothing to them but still hoses the ones who had to buy in

Nascars tyranny has only been leading them to failure year after year. Look at all the tracks that demolished back stretch seating. Look at all the seating covered in sponsor banners. Tyranny from failed empires. That is the france ideology. Calling these "business deals" is equivalent to the green new deal etc. With all the ownership of tracks nascar should be taken to court for monopolistic practices. Its really annoying that nascar has tried to capitlize the way they have. Money from sponsors that has overshadowed great racing for the fans to enjoy. The france family epitomizes what its like to be a man in business and not a businessman.

The entire stock car racing world changed when TV ratings became more important than the race itself. Then Legal Gambling pushed it over the edge. The amount of money involved at NASCAR, top to bottom is ridicules! If you like racing, go to your local short track! Stop feeding the France Family Circus....

Give it up. Imagine being so dimwitted comparing Nascar to "tyrants" and the state off affairs to Rome. Jordan and front row don't have to be in Nascar. There are plenty of other businessmen who will sign the agreement as 13 of the major teams did and take their spots and participate in the biggest sanctioning in USA and north america. Nascar will survive without these two teams including one who hasn't even been around a year. No one's forcing them to stay in Nascar, if they feel they are so important they can take their business model to other sanctioning bodies such as CARS, WOO, TA or indy

An act is worthless without a paying audience. How many kids pay drivers for their autographs? How much did NASCAR have to pay Chicago to use its streets?

Like it or not he is the biggest name in the sports and apparel world. His brand is bigger globally than nascar. They just won the regular season. They’re a chase contender. When they start winning titles. The credibility Jordan’s name brings alot to the sport and sponsor’s. So they are not bulling nascar. but the upside anything jordan brings if they start winning is very high so he wants certain concessions on future cars and stakes. By my estimate jordan increases overall coverage of nascar by 20% or more globally. and especially more in casual fan and blacks and nascar wants that demographic. And jordan knows it and he can deliver it. Not many people wake up and google whats rick hendrick up to. But alot of people want to know what jordans doing. It’s that simple

What does having a charter get you, other than a guaranteed starting spot in each race? If Nascar decided to take away the charters of 23XL and Front Row and give/sell them to other teams, they still only have 36 charters, and start 40 cars.
Both 23XL and Front Row have their shit together that they wouldn't have an issue qualifying their cars for those 4 other non charter spots, and likely farther up the field than a lot of the teams.
The only time I might see one of their cars getting knocked out is if a different team brought in a road course ringer for one of the road courses as a 3rd driver, obviously not with a charter, than being a roadcourse driver, could maybe knock off one of the other 4, but that would be very few and far between.

As much as I like Rick Mast and his great commentaries he comes off as old school, somebody that's not going to rock the boat and is going to kiss Nascar's ass. I really feel big changes are coming to Nascar. So many fans have left Nascar due to their dictatorship ways. A lot of fans are watching grass roots dirt racing, especially the two national midget series, USAC and the Xtreme Outlaw Midget Series and as Flo Racing and Dirt Vision offer more money to the TV rights the payouts are going to be larger and that's going to bring new fans and keep some of the top drivers in the sport longer. Nascar has "never been bullied" but its gonna be interesting to see if this morphs into an anti-trust lawsuit. Dictator mentality often does not succeed in federal court. The style that made it successful may be its un-doing here. Its a restraint of trade but does Nascar survive a rule of reason analysis? Frankly it shouldn't ever get to the point that we have to answer that question.

Thanks for the explanation, Rick, and yes, it peaked in the '80s, recall those days well when it was both the legendary car builders and the new gen owners with extra bucks and computers. And now, with this divide between teams and sanctioning body, is it not like the bridge crossed years ago by rock stars and concert promoters? At some point the performance fees shifted in favor of the artists and the promoters and venues had to accommodate that, no longer were they just singing for their supper. Not saying what's what in this as I do not know, but with car owners basically dissatisfied, one wonders how much longer they'll be willing to get on the big stage at the next All-Day Circle Track Race Car Family and Friends Community Circus and Merchandise Extravaganza. And O for the days of Dan Gurney wheeling that big Mercury at the front of the pack at Riverside, so glad I got to see it as a kid when it was all so loud and colorful and cool.

I think some big changes are coming to stock car racing, Honda and Andretti Global are coming to what's now called Nascar. There's going to be a new racing league started by some very rich individuals that have ties to Honda and Andretti Global. I believe that new money has already had an influx based on what 23X1 and Front Row are doing. Michael Jordan already has ties to this new money organization through his sale of his basketball team. It happened to the PGA Golf Tour and it's happening to Nascar.......

I appreciate Rick Mast providing a perspective. If the team owners are ready to go racing with this new charter agreement and NASCAR is ready to put on the shows as agreed upon, then let’s go racing. A fresh new television broadcast deal is in place and new team sponsorship opportunities are awaiting the car owners. If some of the race team owners feel that they need to hold out signing the new charter agreement, then so be it. In the end, we will see if those teams are still around by the time these new charter agreements go into effect next season. Again, the bottom line is this is NASCAR’s show. It’s the only game like this around, so the teams play by the NASCAR rules or go home. Thanks to Risk Mast for providing his take on the situation. JMO

The iroc-type business model based on the highly controlled car design rules is what it looks like today- too much control imho. Even Mark Martin would have trouble getting in these days.
So I see Denny’s perspective: if nascar is going to control everything and force teams to foot so much of the expense to comply? Either go back to freeing the teams to figure it out, or pay up to the people making nascar’s show possible.

"balls" no it's just stupidity. 13 of the owners bargained and signed on to the deal. Including owners who have been in the sport for decades and know how this industry works. These two teams only screwed themselves and know have created an air of uncertainty in their shops including one who has two drivers in the running. They now not only screwed themselves, they created a worrisome uncertain environment where the team is not focused on winning but what they are going to do if the potential job loss comes to head. Nothing is forcing these two teams to stay in Nascar as there are more than 2 business men wanting an opening into the sport. Jordan and front row are free to go to CARS tour, WOO, TransAm, IndyCar but they won't because Nascar is the show in USA. Nascar can survive without Jordan and front row, Jordan and front row can't survive without Nascar and the opportunities it brings for sponsors.

NASCAR is a business and has always been owned and operated by the France family. There is no surprise here! They post a schedule and the rules and regulations (good bad or indifferent) that must be followed before the season starts. A charter is part of that now. If you don't want to play by the rules, then that's fine. But don't start a bunch of lawsuits to try and take over the company and change the rules the way you want them. It's not your business. I don't agree with NASCAR very often. But I'm with them. NASCAR was here before you were born, and it will be here when you're gone! If you don't like the way it's going you can go sit in the stands with everybody else. Imagine going into a car dealership, not liking the price then filling a lawsuit to get a better deal? That's what this is. When something isn't fun anymore just stop doing it! And remember this is a billionaire causing all of this. He is trying to throw money around so he can brag about getting his way! His partner is just a pawn in his bigger game!

Not a really an inside scoop here, just another generalized opinion or assessment without sufficient facts. Where is the ROI for the teams? Seems to be a lot of teams acting like sheeple, this is why Nascar will continue doing what they have always done, Managed Intimidation. What is the main reason it's so hard to get sponsorship? There is not enough value for the sponsor. The same is true for the teams.
