How to Create and Use Design Templates in Photoshop
Learn how to create a design once, and apply it to many different objects in Photoshop. Each time you make adjustments to the design, those changes will automatically update on every image.
Place the Design into Images Using Linked Smart Objects
Once you are happy with your original design, save it as a .TIF or .PSD file, that way you can edit the layers at any time.
Next, open an image where you would like your design to show up. Go to ‘File - Place Linked Object’ and choose your design. Transform and scale it into place to match the photo.
To change the perspective of the design, first, rotate and scale it into place. Next, hold CTRL/CMD and click on one of the corners and drag it into perspective. Use visual guides like the corners of a book to guide your perspective transformation.
Repeat these steps as many times as you need. Each time you make changes to the original design, those changes will automatically update on the new documents.
    Change Color On Each Instance
If you want to change the color of the design on each image, it is best to do that on the image, not the original design. Use Layer FX like ‘Color Overlay” to change the color of an entire design, or clipped layers to change colors in certain areas.
Any changes you make to the original design will appear automatically, and the new colors applied on the image will update as well.
This will allow you to test different color schemes on different objects, like using light text on a dark background or dark text on a light background.

As a Graphic designer I work with Adobe products daily, but even if I have a good knowledge about these programs I still learning from your tutorials, so first of all I wanna say a really big THANK YOU for your job!
Mostly I working with Indesign and Illustrator, and just barely touch PS. However seeing this video I have some suggestions for those who wanna make books (Sorry Aaron I don't wanna trolling your video but in this case I felt that I had to share my personal experiences with all of you).
Making a design template is important since u have to make a few at least before the customer make his/her choice. But if u work with PS instead of ID u have to rebuild the winner design in ID. I tell u why (in my opinion):
PS ID and AI as well can save pdf which is the most common printing format in all over the word, but the method how they create the file is not identical. ID is a publishing software, PS is for editing pictures, AI is for making illustrations and shapes. ID have much more sophisticate settings for creating PDF files, and u can make smaller files with similar design (u cant make identical since all programs works different). So basically Making a design in PS and in ID need takes almost the same time but working with ID u can save some time and can make more professional jobs in the end.
Also u made the template in RGB color space but the final product need to make in CMYK and because of the difference of these color spaces u can't rebuild your plan with same colors which can makes serious problems later between you and your customer. Also, writing text is not a good idea with full color (CMYK) because if the printer has just 0,1% divergence with the 4 plates, the final result is going to be a bit shady or blurry. Of corse if u make bigger texts than regular reading size (8-12 pt), specially if u use medium or bold characters u can do full color text but to printing it, its going to be more costly than with one color (K or any other).
Again, I don't wanna trolling your video, but I want to give some help for those who planning to make a book after seeing your video.
Once again MANY THANKS for your job keep going forward, u make value which is important in these days!
    Best regards
    my name is Laszló
cu in your next video ;)

( I know it´s a huge topic and not completely Photoshop material) But if I had a basic understanding of the field it would help me to figure out what I like and I´d be able to show a professional designer roughly what I want.

    Aaron & Phlearn,
Great video as always. I've got a question for you:
I've wondered this for a while, but a lot of your photos (especially those in your intro) look like something out of a fantasy world. They almost look more like paintings than photographs... I'm not a professional photographer so I can't put my finger on what makes this so. Can you try to explain some of the qualities that give your photos this characteristic??
Hopefully you understand what I'm getting at, because I'm not exactly sure how to ask the right questions.
    Thanks!
    Jack

Hi there, First of all thank you so much for uploading such amazing tutorials, it has really helped me learn a lot. A question or a request I do have for maybe a future video is that often when editing the image it looks great on computers but when you upload it on instagram or view it on mobile phones it loses most of the details and work put into it. So is there any way to balance this out or a way to export it as most people will see the image on their phones on instagram and it sucks that the image isn't what it started out to be.
