I found out years later that he does. I hear that for a lot of songs and have yet to hear it still. Lightning and Puppets both have a lot of double bass but it's barely audible. Have another listen and you'll probably hear it.
I've been following you for years and I've never disagreed with you until now ... from 2:11 to 2:30 you don't use the technique that Lars uses live. sorry my bad english, use google translator
Let’s see what a genius you are when you’re 56 years old and after you have sold 125 million records and played in the greatest metal band in the universe for nearly 40 years. Oh wait, we can’t, because you’re not Lars Ulrich.
Josh Steffen Let me tell you that you're simply awesome. You nailed it as always. Cheers from Argentina /,,/, (Perhaps you could listen some of Hermética)
According to online tabs, Damage Inc is 190 bpm and Dyers Eve is 195 bpm... although granted Metallica aren’t exactly known for their time keeping so yeah basically the same
Yeah it's hard as hell! that's why I haven't done Angel of Death, etc yet - need more time to practice. And yeah I only do heels up. I never thought heels down would provide power so I never considered trying. You have any info on heels down?
How the fuck can you only have 50 000~ subscribers? You should have twice as many with the talent you got! Im a huge fan of yours!!! Love your covers, never stop delivering!!!!
i have followed your channel for long, but im just amazed how good you were even back here and how you improved your drumming til now! im blown away and love you josh! you are an amazing fucking drummer dude :)
I first heard this tune on Fri Rockshow U.K radio July 1987 I still have the cassette. It's still my fav Metallica album followed by And Justice. Great drumming...
I'm going to find the 16 people who thumbed this down and systematically remove their thumbs. Awesome cover dude. The guitar riff at the 2:00 mark is one of my all time favorite Hetfield licks.
I'm sure that dislike was accidental. The person was too excited to watch what he/she was doing. You got major skills and those double bass parts are fkn crazy!!! \m/
Lars is super underrated. This stupid "Lars sucks" meme is getting on my nerves. Yea he got lazy during the late 90s. But during the 80s and early 90s this guy was a MONSTER. Not only playing those tracks but composing them, jesus. And to be fair, I think he really played well the last couple years 2017-2019 they played live before corona hit. And next to him playing well, he is a genius creating pretty much every song together with Hetfield after cliff passed away, just look up their making offs. Its funny how most people absolute adore your covers but keep hating on Lars "he never was even decent", its not like Lars came up with that drumming and played those tracks live like a beast during the 80s/early 90s. Btw Killllller cover dude, I reaaaaly hope you are playing live with a band, would be a shame if you dont!
Christian Wengert Glad to hear. I also have a drums only playlist that would come in handy. Dozens of isolated drum tracks to either jam along to or make your own collabs with.
Awesome dude! It would sound better if I got around to buying sticks. I'm playing with 2 different length and style stick with a nylon tip broke off of one. Sucks!
Would you maybe one day do a tutorial on how to do that fill at 3:02? there is also a similar fill on your blackened video at 3:38. They sound great but I have no clue which notes to play and when
I found out years later that he does. I hear that for a lot of songs and have yet to hear it still. Lightning and Puppets both have a lot of double bass but it's barely audible. Have another listen and you'll probably hear it.
trapped under ice is filled with double bass
Yeah josh damage inc lepper messiah welcome home sanitarium trapped under ice fade to black etc I have to learn lepper messiah on drums. 🧐

@@anibalinsquin I wouldn’t compare what Lars does in live performances to covers of his studio drumming
I think people really underestimate lars a lot.
Old lars, not New lars
@@JJahatThis exactly right here.

Lars Ulrich + Cocaine = 👌🙊
Lars was great on black album and both loads. Just more rock oriented and simplified.
Lars is a genius.

Of course he is. People are sh**t though
@@alexfabiannunez7539 still is........
He still is a genius creating the parts he is now
This is the best one on youtube bro, good job on this one.
Thanks
i.e. better than the original.
3:38 OH LAWD HE COMIN
Last verse of this song has always been my favorite because of the double bass!
Loved how to remembered to hit the China during the double bass during the last verse. Super cool!
I'm glad you knew. ;)
it was all absolutely brilliant but particularly at around 2:10 was metal grove drumming bliss!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks!
Check out this video on TH-cam: Damage Inc.
Josh Steffen, where are You from?
Wisconsin, USA
Josh Steffen Let me tell you that you're simply awesome. You nailed it as always. Cheers from Argentina /,,/, (Perhaps you could listen some of Hermética)
Is Damage Inc's double bass at the end at the same speed as Dyers Eve's? I'm starting to see similarities
Pretty much.
Ive always thought both songs had similarities. People talk about dyers eve but rarely mention this song
No I get that, more much intricacies.
According to online tabs, Damage Inc is 190 bpm and Dyers Eve is 195 bpm... although granted Metallica aren’t exactly known for their time keeping so yeah basically the same
There's about a 5 bpm difference, but Dyer's Eve is technically faster. Though I believe that My Apocalypse is actually the fastest.
The double bass has healed years of scars in my heart
3:55 .. .Epic face XD
+attila popity hahahaha loooooool
The T. rex drum solo
MY FAVORITE FUCKING SONG!!!!
+JustAMetalHead yes, it is the best song on Master to me...\m/...
+Morbid Angel Agreed.
I think what stands out about Metallica among all the other thrash bands at the time was how expertly crafted the arrangements were.
It saddens me that Lars can't play most of the older stuff live now. I knew Damage Inc had cool drum fills. Excellent job dude
Yeah it's hard as hell! that's why I haven't done Angel of Death, etc yet - need more time to practice. And yeah I only do heels up. I never thought heels down would provide power so I never considered trying. You have any info on heels down?
No I do heels up as well I agree it does provide more power.
Triggers if you play heels down.
dude what? this is fucking perfect!!!
insane double bass work
Lars is a professional at his drumming skills so talented and he’s still got it

Amazing
How tired were you at the end of this song? lol
I feel like I'm having an asthma attack just by playing the air version lol
Yeah I was pretty tired.
I got tired just watching it lol. Good job bro.
What some people have called here "cocky" I call joy of playing.
*whispers* were Damage incorporated
Whenever I play this song on drums I always say damage Incorporated. 😆
@@yeetfeet1878 bro sameee
BRO!!!!! that last verse with the double bass made me yell out loud!!! Glad no one was home!!! Great friggin job!

I'm not ready to dive into Rush yet. That's a huge commitment mentally. Great suggestion!

holy shit you are the MAN at drums u deserve an award.... blow my mind every time with how tight your drumming is
Awesome! I gotta learn some still
This sounded so much simpler in the song
Watching your Metallica drum covers made me appreciate a LOT more what Lars did with the band over the years.
Cheers!

People who shit on Lars drumming either 1) don't play drums. Or 2) They have never tried composing drums to a song.
World Class video well done mate
Best fuckin' cover. Congrats man. Greetings from Colombia.

i love how in every pause he just "🤨" at the camera
you should do through the fire and flames

Spartan how would drumming build shoulder muscle?
I love the bass drums soo much
Incredibly brutal!

This song definitely is hard and has some random cymbal hits too. I can play it though and josh did a great job.
