IT WORKS!!!! IT HELPED ME FIND THE CAUSE…..HERE IT IS WITH A SOLUTION!!! The key lock down is caused by the automatic transmission shift lever not setting fully into PARK. My daughter’s 2011 Terrain just did this. I removed the key as this great video directed me to. I tried starting it again and the key locked in place AGAIN!! After fooling around with it, …… I found the problem. The solution……. When you put your car in park, give the shift lever a good solid push into PARK. YOUR KEY WILL POP RIGHT OUT LIKE NOTHING HAPPENED!!!! The explanation…. The automatic transmission in all cars have a safety interlock system that will not allow the key to be removed unless the car is in PARK. Your shift lever has prematurely worn out and has difficulties making contact with the switch that releases the key. Unless you give it some extra push every time you put it in park, you will experience this failure. My recommendation… go to your mechanic and specifically request this transmission interlock switch be replaced. That’s all that should be needed to correct this permanently. I sincerely hope this helps!!! Dad to the bone !!!!
I pulled into my garage tonight after a long night at work and my key wouldn't come out. I did a quick google search and this was the first video I watched. I didn't have a screwdriver handy so I used another key. Worked perfect!

The first few times I screwed up didn't do it right so I came back to You video and it still wasn't working and then I realized what I was doing wrong and it came out and I was like hell yeah!

@@masongotti7351 There is a small lever you should be looking for. If I remember correctly, it doesn't take much force to pull it so you might not feel it at first when you successfully pull it. (I would go into more detail about what it looks like, but it has been years since I made this video and I no longer have this vehicle with me at this moment.) Anyway, try using your camera phone to record everything within the area of the hole described in the video (have your camera light on, if that helps) to help locate the lever.

For future reference, you only need to go in a little way with the screwdriver and when you feel something you move it towards the driver. I had to reference the manual to get it out.
Not sure what you are trying to do here. The battery is more than likely dead if your key was locked in the ignition. If so, you will need to regain power to the vehicle. First, ensure your battery's connections aren't disconnected. If they aren't disconnected, you'll need to replace the battery or jump the battery.
If you take the key out of the ignition and put it back in while the power issue is still present, the key will become locked again. Ensure that your vehicle is receiving sufficient power.
So... I didn't have a flat head available. I used I straw and it worked 🤣 I folded my straw in half and pushed it in. Lol. Battery still dead, but at least I have key out 😅😅
This is such bs - 2013 - Terrain, key stuck, cant find the dam plunger. Gona look again, but dam, its not on the right, cant reach the left, ad not on bottom, is this thing a switch, or button, ugh.
