I came across your video here, but with me not having anything important to say, your situation reminds me of my own. It was like a month ago that I bought my first kalimba. I've seen them on TH-cam and loved the sound of these things, but not being a musician of any sort I never had an instrument of my own. I desired to pull myself into playing some simple tunes using like a tongue drum or tank drum because they are kind of easy for a novice such as myself to pick up and start making tunes. I went to my local music store and as I found the tongue drums, there it was also! A kalimba! And for just $50.00 USD! I told me self there is not way I'm holding back from this. I thought they costed more. This one was a hollow body one like you have. However, in watching many kalimba videos I desired to have one with more tines, so I went to the Lingting website and saw a 34 tine one, and so I ordered it. As soon as it came in the mail and I unboxed it, held it in my head. Once I played the first note, I was absolutely stunned and amazed because the solid wood body I believe creates this magical sounding ring or chime that my hollow body one does not have. I'm not sure if this is LingTing's signature sound or if it's just this kalimba but it sounds very beautiful! Now for me to learn how to play more complex things.
Russia. Just bought this kalimba. Really liked the sound. And the vibration that is transferred to the player's hands is incredible feeling! Relaxing. Thank you for your unboxing. Its delicious
Hi ClassicLovingGirl ^^ Thanks for coming down to the channel & checking out this review, Glad you like it! Yes, the LingTing both feels and sounds premium! I have 6 kalimbas now, and great sound comes from a winning combination of good Tine quality & body density. LingTing has a dense body, which makes the sound quality rich, and captures the vibrating sounds inside the body much longer than a lighter weighing Kalimba, but the only tradeoff is a slightly less loud sound output, I don't seem to mind this tradeoff, as LingTing is loud enough for me :) They did a great job designing this LT-K17a, I'm glad you got to experience this!
Well, I bought a Kalimba to my wife several weeks ago, a cheap one, but, since watching your video, especially because you are here in Australia, I immediately bought one, from Sydney, now I just have to wait until it arrives. Thanks for sharing your insights.
Thank you for this review. I have been researching for a flat board kalimba for almost 36 hours now hahaha and of all of the reviews I've read, most of you suggest or are so much pleased with LingTing. You added more notes on the pro's so I feel convinced in buying a LingTing as my first flat board and I am sure I will not have regrets later. I own a hollow right now and I want to explore more with a flat board. It definitely is true that once you own a kalimba you cannot just stick with one. I watch vids from Robin of Tip's Kalimba too! Hello from the Philippines!
My first LingTing was the K17P in the key of B. At the time, I already had a Hluru flatboard in C major that I loved but when I heard the sound of the LingTing tines, I *IMMEDIATELY* bought this one in C. I was SOLD. I’m still waiting for my Gecko K17CAP to come in, so I can’t compare to that one yet, but LingTing has the most *heavenly* sounds out of all my Kalimbas. Plus the tines ring at the slightest touch of the nails. I could easily play very gently or very “robust” (lol!) on them based on the pressure I put into the keys. I could go on for like 2 more paragraphs about how amazing LingTing kalimbas are but I’ll spare you the time. Hahah! By the way, cheers from the USA. ✌️☺️

Omaha, Nebraska USA. I just bought this kalimba, as well as the 21 key Ling Ting. Beautiful instruments, and I’m excited to learn to play them. Thanks for the great reviews!
I have this one on order. It should arrive tomorrow, I'm looking forward to it. I've had a hollow body Gecko for a few years now, and I'm basically happy with it. But the short tines on the ends are plinky. In the reviews I've seen for the LingTing, that's not an issue - everything resonates. All the swag that LingTing hooks you up with is nice, but what really sold me is the sound.
Im from the Philippines. I recently discovered my interest in playing the Kalimba and i arrived here in your video. I have no music background. Idk how to read notes but I am really interested in playing the Kalimba casually. I hope to learn from you! Thank you!
Thanks Ajeng! That's the main goal of the channel ❤️ to be an ambassador for Kalimbas in Australia, not many know about this instrument but those who do are very interested, that would be excellent if LingTing contacted me 😂

Heyy Yourl0gic 😉 awesomee ❤️ what I just realized is how smooth it is to swipe/glide on a LingTing, some other kalimba brands have stiff tines, which makes them louder but not as nicer sounding as LingTing 😏👌 excited for you! Lemme know when it arrives 🥂

Hey Maineuser :) hmm, I wish I knew, but I don't currently have hands on experience with Hugh Tracey / Hokema, but from what I'm hearing by video, they do sound amazing, I'm considering saving up for one to showcase, ideally if these companies would like to do a product sponsor, I'd be more than happy to showcase them for you guys
@@KalimbaVerse I bought the B17. Was torn at the end with the M17 (under $50!). But preferred the German workmanship, reputation and longer tines. It took a lot of digging for me to learn about these. So very happy to find them!
I recommend that if you show an instrument, do a sound test of all the notes and use the things that it brings you and not so much planes of the kalimba showing something that is evident.
Hey SyrianGamer 😁 Merry Christmas! ❤️ Apologies, my first ever unboxing & review on camera, it's a learning process, but I'll take this onboard for upcoming unboxing & reviews 💪 Cheers
Hi Albert. I'm Nea from malaysia. I like your unboxing video. U look very confident in that video. I wish i have confident level like u. 😁 Keep up brother.. 😘🎼 And please, stay safe during this covit-19.. ✌️🇲🇾
Awhh thanks Nea ❤️ you can do it too! Just be kind to yourself, we're our own worst critic Everytime, so need to know it's a learning process and it's okay to not be perfect 😊
In terms of how to sound more natural on camera, pretend you're talking to your friend 😂 and I practice a lot behind the scenes to speak without giving my brain enough time to filter what I say. Last thing I say I must continue on that topic, it's a good skill to learn ❤️ that's how to not sound like a robot 🤖 😂 I still do sound a bit like a robot here and there in this video, but it's a lot better than first try 🔥🔥🔥
And this is a detailed review of the lingting K17A. I was planning to buy one but I had second thoughts hahaha but this video made me want to buy anyways hahaha. Love this review btw.

Hey Jackie! Nice to meet you ❤️ Welcome to KalimbaVerse, thanks so much for coming down to the Channel & supporting by watching, liking & commenting, really appreciate it ! Yes! Thoroughly impressed with this LingTing Brand, from the unboxing to the actual Kalimba quality itself :) I recommend, let me know how it goes 😉 I'm looking to get an Acrylic kalimba next, the brand "Treelf" looks great
@@KalimbaVerse I already ordered this brand of kalimba 🥰😍 Im so excited to play hihihi Treelf is a new brand, but I think this brand is good, I dont have any acrylic for now. Im beginner 😊 Thank you for your reply 🤗
@@jacklyngomez971 that's alright haha, I just got back from 1 week vacation :) Good to hear from you again Jackie! more kalimba covers coming soon, I will be unboxing 2 new kalimbas too!
Thank you for this video! It was very informative :). Do you know if it is easy to change the tuning of this Kalimba? I’ve watched another video on TH-cam in which they said changing the tuning on this Kalimba is pretty hard.
Your first budget kalimba is the same as mine! I instantly recognized it by the sun design around the sound hole, but when you showed other parts as the finish ect it looked exactly like mine 😂 Just curious, mine was a Donner kalimba, is your too or do they make them under other brands?
Heyy Miki 😁❤️ thanks for coming down to the channel & supporting me Omg yes it was Donner DKL-17 😂 I like the Kalimba, it works well for some songs like the Avatar one I did, I first wanted to get this specific model because Taylor from ASMR Darling showcase this interesting instrument on her channel, it was very relaxing 😂 I must get it 😍 that's who introduced me into Kalimba actually 😆 I never knew I'd start a channel & play this instrument in 2020, pretty interesting where life takes us ❤️
They have knockoff versions with the sun, but I think the real company is Donner, sneak peek, I'm getting a new EQ hollow box kalimba from Kalimbera website 😏😉 gonna showcase it soon, it has special engraving, stay tuned!
I'm debating which one to get, april yang or this one? 🤔 I got the kimi acrylic which is also good. And i want to get a wooden kalimba, i guess I'm going to get this instead. Thanks for your review ~ from Alaska 😊
Good choice! what I find from Acrylic is it's heavier and sounds softer, the hollow wooden one is the loudest, but doesn't sustain the note for long, and flatboard wood is the sweet spot in the middle ❤️
Hey Vanilla :D I'm using a Lavalier Microphone, I always position it away from the camera, but always position the microphone under or in front the kalimba (never from the side of the kalimba), the brand for the Lavalier microphone is called "Arimic" and I got it for cheap from Wish website
Omg it's Fish The Musician! 🤯 You were mentioned by Autumn The Kalimbaist in her recent Skit, so nice to meet you 😊 my name's Albert 👋 I will support you as well
@@KalimbaVerse haha, I've been subscribing you for a long time, but this is my first comment XDDD, nice to meet you! You actually added me on Facebook haha
Hey Mic Mix, going through comments list haven't responded to yet haha, sorryy Answer: I use a lavalier microphone and always place it under the kalimba nearby or on my shirt, which would be above the kalimba, never from the side of the kalimba, that produces the least sound ~ but yes, also try shield your mic from the wind, or have one of those fluffy mic covers on your lavalier mic ;)
We need to see your gorgeous face more 😍 I have watched this video several times, just because you are soooo cute 🥰😂 I am waiting for my kalimba, I loved your review. 👍🏻
Heyy Mithun :) Thanks for coming down to the Channel & supporting my works ^^ This question comes up a lot, and not much difference, both are really excellent products, it really depends on personal preference, this will help you decide: ----- K17a----- - Reddish Brown colour African Padauk Wood - Excellent for Beginners, Tuned to C major, nearly all Kalimba Tutorials & Songs are tuned to Standard C major. - I own one, and I can definitely say the resonance of the tines is long enough, flatboards usually have no issues with resonance ----- K17p----- - Brown Hedgehog Wood - Unique sounding, because tuned to B major, which is 1 whole tone lower than C, making it resonate even longer, and sound deeper, if you read tabs by numbers, it shouldn't be difficult to play the K17p, a lot of people prefer it because it sounds different to your regular C tuned Kalimba
hey Ziq Sanusi, good question haha, I just tuned this last week, and it was not very hard, but I must say it's slightly harder than my previous budget kalimba, what I'm saying is it's not impossible to tune, just needs a few more taps :)
Hey Eddie 👋 yes the loudness of a Flatboard kalimba like this LingTing is definitely good enough in quiet and moderate environments, it is just not made for super loud environments, but I much prefer Flatboards than hollow Kalimba for sound quality ❤️ it's not super quiet, if you're in a room full of people talking at same time, then it drowns out the Flatboard sound
thank so much. one more thing bro. if the hollow kalimba like gecko is rated as 10 (since hollow kalimba is the loudest) how would you rate this lt k17?
omg tysm for this vid!! im so confused whether i want to buy gecko or this k17a lingting bcs ive already have acrylic one which is kimi 🤧 ok now i now hehe
Heyy Joanna :) Yeah Gecko Kalimbas are pretty good, just lacks the unboxing experience & other minor attention to details ~ Thanks for coming down to the channel and supporting me! I just bought the "Treelf" Acrylic (belongs to same company as LingTing), it looks high quality ❤️ Will be reviewing 2 new Kalimbas soon on this channel, stay tuned! 😊
Thanks Joanna ❤️ K17y is hollow kalimba, and K17a is a Flatboard kalimba, in my personal experience, I liked Flatboards more because they never have the dead tines issue and is loud enough for my liking 😂 but if you're after more volume, go for k17y
Hi Nang, sorry maybe not download the video, but just paste the link on your Facebook instead, so there won't be any copyright issues, thanks! Just paste in this link below: m.th-cam.com/video/PcWhogbIuZo/w-d-xo.html
Hi Iyana 😁😁 I would say this is a really good Kalimba for beginners, because the build quality is excellent, good quality sound, and this model LT-K17a is already tuned to C major, which is great for beginners to follow along to tutorials on TH-cam, as C major is standard tuning ❤️ hope this helps!

They have knockoff versions with the sun, but I think the real company is Donner, sneak peek, I'm getting a new EQ hollow box kalimba from Kalimbera website 😏😉 gonna showcase it soon, it has special engraving, stay tuned!
I love the kalimba has golden chain 😍😍😍😍
Very Aesthetic 😍 thanks for watching Lanna
I enjoyed watching your video presentation. Awesome 🌹
What kind of mic do you use for recording the kalimba sound?♡
Hey Vanilla :D I'm using a Lavalier Microphone, I always position it away from the camera, but always position the microphone under or in front the kalimba (never from the side of the kalimba), the brand for the Lavalier microphone is called "Arimic" and I got it for cheap from Wish website
Makes me want to buy one XD I'm from Malaysia❤️
Omg it's Fish The Musician! 🤯 You were mentioned by Autumn The Kalimbaist in her recent Skit, so nice to meet you 😊 my name's Albert 👋 I will support you as well
@@KalimbaVerse haha, I've been subscribing you for a long time, but this is my first comment XDDD, nice to meet you! You actually added me on Facebook haha
Omg 😂 that's so good to hear, I wish more people did this #MysterySubs hahaha
do the tines rust easily?
Wow nice thanks your sharing blessing
Thanks for watching Love Pilapil! :)
I love your smile too .🤣🤣🤣
Gnaww ☺️ I'm lost for words hahaha ❤️
Nicee! Wish i had a Lingting too!😭
Christmas present?? ^.
I just got the same kalimba. My problem now is how to record it on open space. :( How do you record flatboards in open spaces?
Hey Mic Mix, going through comments list haven't responded to yet haha, sorryy
Answer: I use a lavalier microphone and always place it under the kalimba nearby or on my shirt, which would be above the kalimba, never from the side of the kalimba, that produces the least sound ~ but yes, also try shield your mic from the wind, or have one of those fluffy mic covers on your lavalier mic ;)
@@KalimbaVerse thank you for the response.
We need to see your gorgeous face more 😍 I have watched this video several times, just because you are soooo cute 🥰😂 I am waiting for my kalimba, I loved your review. 👍🏻
😊 thank you Anneline! Will try to be on camera more hahaha
Between K17 A and K17 P which one is better ?
Heyy Mithun :) Thanks for coming down to the Channel & supporting my works ^^ This question comes up a lot, and not much difference, both are really excellent products, it really depends on personal preference, this will help you decide:
----- K17a-----
- Reddish Brown colour African Padauk Wood
- Excellent for Beginners, Tuned to C major, nearly all Kalimba Tutorials & Songs are tuned to Standard C major.
- I own one, and I can definitely say the resonance of the tines is long enough, flatboards usually have no issues with resonance
----- K17p-----
- Brown Hedgehog Wood
- Unique sounding, because tuned to B major, which is 1 whole tone lower than C, making it resonate even longer, and sound deeper, if you read tabs by numbers, it shouldn't be difficult to play the K17p, a lot of people prefer it because it sounds different to your regular C tuned Kalimba
@@KalimbaVerse Thanks for the detailed answer
Awww Im so Jealous,i wish i could have that too,Lingting brand was good,Anyways looking forward for more kalimba tutorials
Thanks Ann, working on it behind the scenes ❤️
Great video ! 😀
Thanks Sharon ❤️

Nice review! New friend from Malaysia ♥️
Thanks! I think you're my 200th sub! ❤️ I'm from Indonesia, but I live in Australia 😂 nice to meet you! What's your name?
Nice review👍👍👍
Thanks! This is my first time, your words encourage me to be more on Camera 😌
have you tried tuning it? because i've heard it's especially hard to tune for this brand of kalimba.
hey Ziq Sanusi, good question haha, I just tuned this last week, and it was not very hard, but I must say it's slightly harder than my previous budget kalimba, what I'm saying is it's not impossible to tune, just needs a few more taps :)
@@KalimbaVerse and how is possible to understand if we tune it well?
hey , is the loudness do satisfying? or is it that quite?
Hey Eddie 👋 yes the loudness of a Flatboard kalimba like this LingTing is definitely good enough in quiet and moderate environments, it is just not made for super loud environments, but I much prefer Flatboards than hollow Kalimba for sound quality ❤️ it's not super quiet, if you're in a room full of people talking at same time, then it drowns out the Flatboard sound
thank so much. one more thing bro.
if the hollow kalimba like gecko is rated as 10 (since hollow kalimba is the loudest)
how would you rate this lt k17?
Like an 8/10 for loudness in comparison to that 10 for hollow Kalimbas
wow. thanks. anyway like the accent. this summer I've been practising british accent from Philippines here.
omg tysm for this vid!! im so confused whether i want to buy gecko or this k17a lingting bcs ive already have acrylic one which is kimi 🤧 ok now i now hehe
Heyy Joanna :) Yeah Gecko Kalimbas are pretty good, just lacks the unboxing experience & other minor attention to details ~ Thanks for coming down to the channel and supporting me! I just bought the "Treelf" Acrylic (belongs to same company as LingTing), it looks high quality ❤️
Will be reviewing 2 new Kalimbas soon on this channel, stay tuned! 😊
will looking forward to that 🤩 thank you for responding. May i know which one was better between k17a & k17y? Sorry for asking too much Q 🤧
Thanks Joanna ❤️ K17y is hollow kalimba, and K17a is a Flatboard kalimba, in my personal experience, I liked Flatboards more because they never have the dead tines issue and is loud enough for my liking 😂 but if you're after more volume, go for k17y
I see. I hate dead tines too. Ok i'll go for k17a! Tysm for the tips 💝

cah bagus unboxing kalimba wkwkwkwkw
Halo Raden 😂😂😂 terima Kasih
Would this Kalimba be good for beginners? ^^
@@KalimbaVerse Thank you for the advice! I bought this kalimba today and I'm so excited to get it. :)
