MAEPLE I LISTENED TO EPIC RECENTLY AND I FINALLY UNDERSTAND, THIS IS BEAUTIFUL, THIS IS DETAIL, THIS IS THE BEAUTY IN THE PAIN YOU ORCHESTRATE IN EACH ANIMATION, EACH FRAME HOLDING THE TEARS OF THOSE WHO WEPT DURING A STREAM, THOSE WHO FELT CONNECTED TO THE CHARACTERS.
No way. NO WAYYYY. As a huge fan of Epic, and former QSMP admin, as well as someone who supports Team Bolas' rights AND wrongs... This animatic is EVERYTHING to me. Perfection painted in red right before my eyes, you've done it again Maeple!
THERE IS SO MUCH I LOVE ABOUT THIS I WANT TO SCREAM 0:57 the pov shot from THE INSIDE OF THE WOUND Baghera opened TWIRLING with the chainsaw with the trail of blood showing the action is so goddamn inspired. I love how brutal you've made her in this. so many fanworks forget she was even more unhinged than Cellbit in Purgatory 1:11 - 1:23 this sequence showing how trapped Baghera and Cellbit feel by everything they've had to face 1:17 Cellbit switching to Foolish with the coinflip! I'm so glad that moment is being remembered, and the camera rotation plus how you handled the coinflip ending on it hanging in the air while Foolish smirks in his uniform AUUUUUUUUUUUUUGH this song was such a perfect choice. the relief at the end as Baghera recognizes Phil while the "you and I" part is harmonized is palpable. 10/10, have watched it 6 times already
SO GOOD! The quick frames between the birds and Cellbit paralleling with Foolish, and Baghera turning around to realize it’s Phil- ;-; Ahhh. I think we all wish time constraints and scheduling issues didn’t happen so we could’ve gotten the rescue mission, but I’m glad we got it in the form of fan content like this.
I'm not in this fandom, so I have no idea how much is taken straight from canon and how much is personal interpretation, but I absolutely adore the character design here. Every single character is so visually striking and has a unique silhouette without any of them coming across as 'extra' or overdesigned. The art style is so satisfying and well-suited to the characters that I could write an entire comment on it alone. All this to say, you've got some crazy talent and this animatic was a lovely treat :^)
AAAA This is incredible, the color scheme, the character designs and expressions, the choices for the voice/lyric lines, scenes and perspectives... It pushes me right back into my QSMP phase and reminds me of why I loved the server (and of why it made me mad at times). As much as I adore the storytelling on the QSMP, the fact that its natural flow got interrupted by event after event still bothers me because it robbed us of scenes like this! Had whoever was making the decisions on bigger event days actually asked the streamers and admins where their lore was heading, there would have been many great moments because THEY WERE COOKING. They were ALWAYS cooking. I remember my excitement when Richarlyson and Pomme asked Q!Philza to accompany them on a rescue mission to save Q!Cellbit and Q!Baghera because it would have been such a test of and testament of the relationship, and perhaps, family ties, they forged in Purgatory. It would speak to the nature of the bonds made on the island(s), to very nature of the islanders themselves - there's understanding, forgiveness and hope for each other. And that's a very special facet of both the overall server lore and the characters in their canon existence. Because even if they went off the deep end, there was somebody there that would go through hell to save them. And Q!Phil would have done it literally, essentially, for Q!Baghera and Q!Cellbit and their kids. Neither of their characters take this kind of support for granted (their past would have never even allowed them to do so) and that makes their willingness to fight for each other so very powerful. And I am glad that even though we never saw it happen in canon, you captured the moment of how it could have been. When the conversation about the rescue mission originally happened, I mostly imagined Q!Philza saving them, but the combination of the idea of Q!Philza accompanying Richarlyson and Pomme to Purgatory and becoming a welcoming presence and the implications of the battle shown in the animation we saw of Q!Cellbit's and Q!Baghera's escape is just brilliant. Because it doesn't strip away the self-agency from the "hounds". We have seen them slowly starting to question serving the Watcher towards the end Purgatory 2 as they begin to see that it is to blame for their misery. They originally became the Watcher's "hounds" in hopes that the adrenaline of the hunt would dull their pain and overshadow it with short-lived joy but... after carnage, all that is left it emptiness... and the first glance at a razor-sharp clarity. The fact that their life is dedicated to the one who destroyed it. And so they turn against the Watcher and his workers. "Run for your life!" Q!Baghera and Q!Cellbit would rather die in battle than continue living like this. And brutal they are, they have been trained for the hunt. Pomme's shocked face reveals the change they have gone through - she has never seen her mother like this, with merciless, cold eyes. "We must do what it takes to survive." And yet, you can see Q!Baghera's gaze softens as she recognizes Q!Philza. It's the face of a friend that has been with her in this hell, all these months ago. Their leader. Something safe, something to hold onto. "We are the same, you and I." Pomme, Richas, Q!Phil... They must all seem like ghosts to her and Q!Cellbit. A dream too good to be true. But they take their hands, real as can be, and guide them home. They say home is where the heart is, and they have just found back their way to theirs. Absolutely beautiful storytelling, all confined in their characters' stories and your gorgeous art. (I will also add that I am I love the quick "flashbacks" to Q!Baghera's and Q!Cellbit's memories, showing their old selves and characters that mattered to their story in the past. I am somehow especially happy that the animatic included a glimpse of the "Q!Foolish flips a coin" scene because people tend to forget or overlook it? The entire spiel following Q!Cellbit going on a violent rampage is generally quite underrated, the character interactions and improv was insanely good and gave great character insights. I loved how everyone and everything was interconnected, it really fleshed out relationships between every character involved.) Truly, I really wonder if we will ever get to see another project like this? Because the QSMP content creators have unbelievable chemistry and it seems to me that it is a rarity that everyone gets along so well and collaborates so well in lore together, especially across different cultures and languages. Well, no matter what will be, the good memories QSMP created will forever be captured in the art and fan creations it inspired during its run, such as your stunning pieces, Maeple.
I don't know/watch QSMP, came here from Love in Paradise. The framing, movements, expressions are all so good! I love how on-beat you are as well with the music, very satisfying as a music nerd! I especially the shift in the winged characters' expressions at 1:32 ! It;s like what happened is finally dawning on them now that the blood, the rush, and adrenaline have faded!
ok but can we talk abt the subtle changes in expression and just how well their emotions come across? because seriously they're drawn so well--it's like a cherry on top of this fantastic animatic. Please take my adoration!!
