Well, that was an interesting way to end a semester, 99 goes in shop because of faulty wiring almost caught on fire, went through two spear buses because of 23 air doors not working anymore to driving on 21, to getting 99 back on the last day before break. What an interesting way to end it all out!!!
Thanks for the update and the lowdown on the repair. 👍 I agree completely with your thoughts about a fire - and the speed at which it seems to travel, particularly after what seemed like a lot of them all happening at once a few years back in South Carolina. If memory serves me, those were mostly rear-engined Thomas HDX's, and I think I read that they were on borrowed time due to state money issues/delaying the usual regular replacement schedule by years. Still, some of the images and videos on the news that onlookers shared could be a little jarring.
I work in SC schools and used to drive buses...those '95 RE Thomas Transit buses were the ones catching on fire...all of those are now off the road and the state replaced them with Thomas C2s and some Bluebird All American RE transits and some Bluebird Visions that are propane-powered.
@@tiago222ofnewyork8 All of the RE Thomas buses and '88/'90 International buses were taken out of service in 2022 across the entire state. SC is also deploying some EVs (Thomas C2s, International CEs) across the state in addition to the propane C2s and Bluebird Visions and All Americans. I'm not sold on the EVs yet, because the range is not that good for a lot of rural districts in the state. You're limited on where you can route those buses.
12-99: "I look pretty good for a dead bus." The People of Internetland: "She's alive!" In all honesty, so happy to see her back on the road! We had a route bus decide to play pop goes the weasel with it's motor right before the year started. Luckily they had moved routes around and eliminated a route so bus 40 became bus 39. They're still waiting on a motor for it. For the rest of the fleet, they've been switching to LED Headlights and Taillights (except for moms, which she's like "but I kind of need them the most since I'm in the boonies"). Maybe they'll get to the 8-ways eventually.
We have a 99-12 in my county, though my county has Bluebirds, and like very few Internationals, and like few C2s, and the 99-12 is a Bluebird. Never rode on it.
I knew I recognized the rear of those buses! I just moved to Lowndes County. I have to assume that's where you are. I'm sure I've seen you out on the road bringing him to and from school. First time watcher, kind of interesting to see it from the drivers perspective. I'm also familiar with drivers doing stupid things. Seems to be common place down here. Especially around bigger vehicles 😛
When I use to go to school in 2014 to 2017 when I graduated we didn’t have the bars on the front of our C2s miss riding the. C2s in school my bus in middle school was an 04 IC CE it was my bus drivers Daily driver back in 2011 they weren’t allowed to drive the THEN new busses 2012s IC CEs only for field trips or only when the 04 broke down that was it and on our C2s we didn’t have that back side blinking sign before ether PS. I like how your high school has like a designated spot for IC CE buses and then all the C2s are together to lol
Just like on TWA 800 hade a short in the wiring harness and spark the fuel vapor and blow up. good thing that the wiring harness did not caught fire wile you had kids on bord
Those are basically flashing Stop Signs on the rear of the bus warning drivers not to pass while the red lights are flashing. Those seem to be standard on all Georgia school buses (though, I'm wondering if the rear stop arms are a new requirement or if they're optional in Georgia).
What a coincidence, you get your bus back, and idk what happened with my 39 bus, we're stuck with 22 (they're not in order by year date, they're outta order)
We have had 2 buses catching on fire, In the pass 5 years. One was a 2014 vision the other one was like a 2017 vision the 2017 burnt to the ground and the 2014 got a new front end. The 2017 caught on fire the first day of school in 2023 thankfully there was no one on the bus. The kids on the 2014 ok.
What is the age you guys replace yall buses? Our school district replace theirs every 16 years sometimes they replace them before 16 years due to engine issues or something!
@@QuintenM722 it varies by case. If the manufacturer is extremely late with new deliveries (like right now) then they stay in mainline service longer than expected. With a group of same age spares usually the ones with more engine or drivetrain issues go first and the better ones are kept longer
What year model is 12-99 Just curious cause my district’s number system is a simple number-year model system Eg: 623 is the 6th bus of the 23’ year model
4:19 better days for your bus and my bus im only saying that because my bus does noy like us t breaks down like not always but like 15- 23% of the time i just got it back after it heater has been fixed and 19:06 SAY WHAT CAUgHT ON FIRE
Nobody cares for CE 300 around here… we were exclusively a Thomas EF district from around 2000 to about 2019 when we revived bus number 63,64,65,66 that we retired in 2015 (94 blue bird TC2000 RE) for the 2019 blue bird AARE and ever since we’ve had C2, AARE, and even some GEN 1 HDX
That’s because it’s a Cummins bus if it was a Mercedes Benz bus it would have been a lot easier and quicker parts return and install. Speaking from experience with our c2 line the c2 with Mercedes Benz diesel have less break downs and easier to repair them than the Cummins we have But if you really want a fun fast and easy to use and maintain get the gas ford bb buses night and day deference in power fuel efficient and way less expensive to repair and hardly breaks down
Not necessarily, every bus has its own personality and quirks. Along with that drivers have their preferences on what some buses do and don't do along with the FOV, driver comfortability, and other things. When you drive a certain type of bus/vehicle for a long time you get accustomed to it and its quirks and tend to sometimes get emotionally attached to it. So no it's not always just a "damn bus" some people care for their bus.
I drove a Thomas few years back. It spent more time broken than working. I have a Bluebird now , love driving it.
