    Telok Blangah Rise is really one of the last surviving old HDB estates. The food there is really real siah. Thanks for this!

      @@Piggypuggy I indeed feel this sense of urgency. However, I'm not in a position to travel to SG any time soon. But I have an idea to preserve their fabulous food into the future: buy all kinds of meals and deepfreeze them in liquid nitrogen. At -180C, it'll keep for decades.

    Thank you for sharing...Sad to say that "Genuine Hawker Food" may become obsolete soon We Love them...I'm Eastern European & my husband is ex-Singaporean(Hainanese)- family left in the sixties due to the "Force Requisition" of their business shop/home in Bukit Timah...There were no CPF or Superannuation during my parent in-laws Time...Very sad Time for them!!!!!!! Those who frequent hawkers back in the 70s-80s will feel a sense of loss as these reminded us of childhood. So many of such hard working hawkers who dedicated their lives to a better Singapore have since retired without a trace.. thanks for watching 🥰

    Wow nice place! Need to venture here one fine day lol. That vegetarian stall looks so nostalgic especially that zhai ghor! I can hardly find this kind nowadays. Now you see ones are those just thin and crisp and tasteless kind. I only have it when I was a kid from my place's hawker centre.
    That char bee hoon also looks like the one my hawker place have unfortunately the uncle had a fall and has to retire :-(

    • @Piggypuggy
      @Piggypuggy  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sad hor? Most are already retired in the past 10yrs.. there really isn’t many of such dedicated old timers anymore. These days it’s all about raking in the profits as quickly as one can 🙁

      @reflowerr ปีที่แล้ว +5

      If I'm not wrong, Take MRT to Tiong Bahru Station, when you exit the MRT station and take the escalator, your left would be MacDonald, your right would be the bus stop. Take 121 at that bus stop and either get off at Blk 27 (14291) and walk to the market or a longer ride in the bus but directly outside the market, Blk 36 Mkt/Fc (14489).

    • @Piggypuggy

    Piggy my dear,
    I was thinking of starting on an early morning stroll along the Southern Ridges from the Telok Blangah Crescent Market (My notions of doing this same journey earlier this year disappeared in a 7:00 cloud burst that had water gushing down Keong Saik Rd). I have seen a good review of pau available at TB Crescent and thought it might be an option. But Vegetarian Delight at TB Rise that you review here looks very good. There only seems to be 500mt between the two markets so they are much the same to me.
    Any thoughts on the best market to start my journey considering that it is the celebration of Singapore Hawker culture I'm looking for rather than the latest Instagram hip/hit spot?
    Warmly
    Dr M

    • @Piggypuggy
      @Piggypuggy  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Dr M 😀
      I'd suggest a hydrated morning walk to work up and appetite for a heavy brunch.. you can start off at this location at Hort park.. past all the tree top walks around gillman barracks.. then to Henderson waves..
      maps.app.goo.gl/4D1o7iZNcspvGReaA?g_st=ic
      Before decensding to the foot of telok blangah hills where it's not too far from TB crescent or rise..
      maps.app.goo.gl/uToJSvgZxdvAS6bB9?g_st=ic
      Go easy on the char Kway Teow.. it's oily enough to set you back for the next few hours 😅

    • @Piggypuggy
      @Piggypuggy  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Both TB crescent and rise are of about similar genisis if around 1975.. but rise retains more of the original hawkers as there aren't much newer housings around. Given that.. you'd also find it alot quieter as there's usually just a few old folks with a few good stalls.. but I kinda enjoy the charm of it's almost forgotten existence.. just space out after a good meal

    Mate, this looks like a top place to become a regular. Shame about all the young folk moving away, is it too far from a train station? Is it difficult to commute to work? Being from Perth, I do wonder what the maximum distances must be

    • @Piggypuggy
      @Piggypuggy  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah.. it's a little off the subway lines.. gotta get there by the traditional way with a feeder bus from the nearby interchange or train station. Then again Singapore is so tiny.. getting from A to B would be under and hour.
      Hows life in Perth mate? If I'm living there... I might toy with the idea of having a high BTU gas station and a giant wok in the backyard 😂
