September 16th, 2000 at Club Soda. Disturbed, Kittie and Shuvel 🤘🏿What a show! I am so glad I got to see Shuvel once. From that show on, I decided to never miss an opening band in case I discover a fantastic band like I did that day!
This is the only band that has talked about teenage and 20 something mental health. A topic that’s in very need to be talked about even over 23 years after this song came out. Obviously this was just after Columbine and no one was talking about the mental health of those 2 guys that shot up the school, except this band. Mental health issues still need to be talked about.
I always thought the same thing and I feel like part of the reason why they didn't have the level of mainstream success as some of the other more well known nu metal bands of that era has something to do with the raw reality of their music. I think if they had toned down their subject matter, imagery and overall message they might have been more popular but I'm so glad that they didn't do that. These dudes kept it real and said a lot of things that needed to be said. Especially when you take into consideration the climate of the times back then. The nation had been rocked by the Columbine massacre, people were pretty on edge and mental health was still a pretty taboo, touchy subject to discuss.
Because they were completely derivative of NuMetal groups who were already on the decline. This ticks literally every box, right down to the phonetically misspelled single-word band name. White guy rapper with the same flow as Limp Bizkit? Yup. Quiet verses into screamed hooks with halftime breakdown? Check. Snare drum tuned like a tennis racquet? Yes. Hip hop cliches and baggy pants? Check and check. Even their logo looks like a fourth-generation copy of a copy of a copy. I'm sure that Interscope A&R intervention sealed that coffin shut. They were not in the business of originality by that point, pouring groups of four and five people into their formulaic funnel to go 'fetch daddy another hit'. This isn't anything against any of the members of the group as people or players - but the music itself is so painfully unoriginal by every conceivable metric.
I met these guys, mainly the 2 singers at Ozzfest back in the day. They where the coolest dudes. They stuck around, signed promo photos that they gave out, which I still have. but mainly they just stood there all day and talked to everyone around and hung out.
I just remember buying this CD at Hastings having never heard of them and was so stoked @ how badass they were and that I'd found this CD. I was a rap/rock junkie in the nu-metal era always thought it was a bummer the style was so short lived.
My homies did the damn thang, representin the middle of the map! Wichita, KS is where they from muthafuckas! They still around fools, just minus the Hollinger brothers, Jeff(vocalist) & Kyle(drummer). You can catch them in the West Hollywood, CA area, sometimes at The Roxy Theatre. Drummer Kyle Hollinger went on to the band Crazy Town for a little bit, but isn't with them any longer. The Hollinger brothers now have a band by the name of Soma, out of Valley Village, CA. They all from the Dubb-K.
I saw these guys for the first time @ Dragonfest 2001 in San Bernardino California and these guys are HYPE!!! The stage dive, they jump like Jordan on stage. AND THEY ARE LOUD!!! I then got their single with this song and "Hit List" and I said I have to find this album. About a year later, I found it and never regretted buying. The album "Set It Off" is worth every penny. This is probably the hardest bands never commercialized.
@gongboy83 That's very true. I saw them open up for Linkin Park and Taproot @ Dragonfest 2001 in San Bernardino California. The stage diving got me amped, but the music sent me over the edge. I ran and got the CD right away and never regretted it. The whole Set It Off album is a MUST BUY for the people who still dig that early 2000s metal.
Saw these guys in concert back in the late 90’s. I was so drunk. I last remember jumping in the mosh pit and waking up the next day with footprints on my face. Good times 🎉
I still have the demo tape from these guys when they played with godsmack in colorado. Still wrapped since I dont have anything that plays tapes anymore.
This band was tight; rare nu-metal that kind of aged gracefully. Jazzy, had something to say without sounding angsty but legit pissed off composure. Still relevant considering these fucking shootings keep happening.
All the instruments sounds perfect,no dude. But the drums... oh the drums are insane!!! \../ Edited: Drummer played drums on "Crazy Town - Darkhorse" album. He was a member of the band on that era.
It's too bad these guys didn't get any bigger. I dig them, I discovered them at this time the video came out and I'm nearly 50 I know they're NOT, but they remind me of Korn and Limp Bizkit....all of whom I discovered around the same time....'97-'00. I was in my early 20's and I was 100% full of anger and frustration. This music was perfect for me
@@bored5094 with all the mandates, inflation, the great awakening and everything else happening in the world right now ? Naw, it's more relevant than ever before !

i seen em too...they played first and smoked my friend and out afterwards...it was crazy funny...there we were just chillin after their set smoken and they straight up said that dont smell like the good shit, come with us...and boy were they right
i know these nerds there from wichita ks, little twarps there cousin threw a stick at a cat and it ran off the blonde cryed his ass off had mommy pic him up, was like 14

Saw these guys open up for a Kittie show in Montreal in mid 90s...they were awesome
Was kittie Good?
WHY TF aren't guys like this (GOAT) getting it now? Music fing sucks now. Bring the killers back son🤘

I agree dude
It will forever be a mystery to me as to why this band wasn’t huge.
For me too
Rapcore never really made a big impact but produced some awesome bands. Primer 55 comes to mind.

The record probably didn't promote them enough
Who else remembers seeing this video occasionally on MTVX back in the day?
Limp.Bizkit had MTV looking for bands who looked and sounded similar
Well Fred:
Slept on several bands then.
Bottom line.
Songs of artist or bands like Shuvel was never released here in Europe. They only played more mainstream music at Viva or MTV back in the late 90s
@@Mentis-de LEIDER..
yeah, but they beat out by linkin park. understandable.
I want that Snot shirt so damn badly.
I knew I wasn’t Trippin
Vocalist is wearing a snot labeled shirt and the drummer is wearing a straight up.. am I wrong or am I right?
ME TOO
These guys obviously are very influenced by snot and I love snot these guys rock
Shuvel has been one of my favorite bands since i was a kid. They should have went mainstream for a second time.
That breakdown though! Man this band is so underrated
I met these guys, mainly the 2 singers at Ozzfest back in the day. They where the coolest dudes. They stuck around, signed promo photos that they gave out, which I still have. but mainly they just stood there all day and talked to everyone around and hung out.
I was there, they were awesome!
David Lehart It was the Indianapolis show for me. They where really cool people. Sad to hear that they split up.
I simply cannot stop listening to this album. Please come back, Shuvel.
John J TheNativeAlienTribe is one of the few bands out there that is creating this type of sound in the present day. Check them out! Peace!
This band was great
I just remember buying this CD at Hastings having never heard of them and was so stoked @ how badass they were and that I'd found this CD. I was a rap/rock junkie in the nu-metal era always thought it was a bummer the style was so short lived.

hahahah fuck yea, I was there! Did you see taproot play and feel the bass guitar rumble through your chest?
One of my favorites EVER! Come back Shuvel!!!!
ONE MORRRREE TRAJIK TEEEEEEELLLL!!!!
Nice Lifer pfp, awesome band. That self titled album has really good songs, my favorite song off the album is New.
Saw these guys in concert back in the late 90’s. I was so drunk. I last remember jumping in the mosh pit and waking up the next day with footprints on my face. Good times 🎉
That bassline though!
warwicks man, they are THE bass guitars
Fuck man. Come back we need you all. Shit
It’s been about 15 years since I heard this song live at ozzfest or so......but then last night I randomly thought if this song.....SWEET!
This is the track and video that had me sold. It’s in my vault of bands that inspired me as a teenager.
Damn this is cool song and lyrics,
esta banda merecía más, sonaban bien pero pasaron sin pena ni gloria en la escena nü metal
Muy cierto, es una pena que no llegaran a más, tenían mucho potencial.
Una lastima la verdad.
I still have the demo tape from these guys when they played with godsmack in colorado. Still wrapped since I dont have anything that plays tapes anymore.
So, you got a tape player now?
Miss this band, where the fuck did Shuvel go? I loved the whole 'Set It Off' album, I just want to see more of these guys they're fuckin fresh.

Slk tudo bem feito o tom da bateria os riffs da guitarra os vocalistas,PERFEITO 🤘🤘
Such a badass song Nu Metal forever!
I love this song and love how nu metal songs have crazy breakdowns
All the instruments sounds perfect,no dude. But the drums... oh the drums are insane!!! \../
Edited: Drummer played drums on "Crazy Town - Darkhorse" album. He was a member of the band on that era.
i think it sounds very amatuerish/garage-style
Sounds like a broken record with legit rhythm which is why i cant stop listening to it.
Eric 7-Strings The instrumentals sound raw. They sound like instrumentals you would hear on a demo.
Yea man. I like his snare work. Really makes the song
@@israalvarez595 on 2020 some Bands are trying to get Back that snare sound 🤣
Right on good tunes
It's a shame this didn't make the cut for the Jet Set Radio soundtrack.
this is Awesome!
Jet Set Radio!
This Band should write with 311. That be dope
Drum and guitar riff sounds like 311,early year
Project Gotham Racing!
Great Song!
I remeber seeing these guys back in the day remenising on days gone past love rocking!
Shuvel the Nu-metal version of Beastie Boys yeah and we want that Stampede of The Disco Album in 2019.
You SIR are WRONG.
😂
Kenneth Aquino They remind me of RATM, a little bit. Their vocals give off that Zack de la Rocha vibe. The nu metal version of RATM.
SOTDE🤘🏾😂
They’re more like RATM and Snot’s offspring.
