- Luke Prokop knew from a young age he wanted to be a pro hockey player. When he came out as gay to his friends and family, the Nashville Predators prospect thought he wouldn't be able to have a career in hockey anymore. This Pride Month, Luke looks back at his incredible journey of self-acceptance and how he's changed the world of hockey, making it a more inclusive place for 2SLGBTQ+ players and fans.

As a LGBTQA mom of a little kid playing hockey I’m so proud of Luke and also want everyone to know that we are raising the next generation of hockey players who were very surprised anyone cared who you “like more than a friend” 💙 (edit spelling)
The first is always the hardest, only a matter of time before the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and so on. Way to go Luke, a privilege to have(and had) you in Oil Country!

I’m a little confused on why sexual choice has to be public. I get the stigma isn’t the same as the past but why announce it? Who really cares?

When these folks reference themselves, they are referencing THEMSELVES, not (NOT) the public. The public and The Powers That Be are not the same. The LGBTQ community is the creation of these Powers. (This isn’t even up for debate.)
All the worlds a stage and when they STAGE NAME their players, they’re MOCKING you with their agenda. Of COURSE it means “progress forward to prosperity; advancement toward success; improvement by diligence”, but they’re referencing THEIR success.

The trying to be like everyone else... most people are accepting and really couldn't care less what another considers their sexual orientation, as long as its not being pushed on them or their children. I'm sure the LGBTQ... appreciate this story, but to most hockey fans, Id bet this is turning them off of the sport. I guarantee the viewership will plummet due to the woke inclusivity they've been forcing the fans to watch as of recent. The season tickets sales will tell the story clearly.

Congrats, but I honestly don't care about any player's sexual preference, religion, nationality, ethnicity, politics, whatever.... just play hard, play the game right, and play to win the Stanley Cup.
A player can be an ethnic Yazidi/Maori, born in South Africa, grew-up in Russia, identifies as a trans and prays to Xenu.... if that player is 6'5 230lbs, shoots like OV, passes like Thornton, skates like McDavid and has on-ice vision like Crosby... I want that player on my team. Everything else is irrelevant.

Unfortunately, history has shown that GMs, coaches and other players continue to care what you are and where you're from so.. Be sure and speak up, to them , not this kid

Because inclusivity!
I think everyone should care because despite the process we've made, bigots are actively trying (and in some places succeeding) to shut down conversations or halt the progress made surrounding sexuality and gender, so we as a community need to loudly and proudly say who we are. Doing so will lead to a more accepting world where, hopefully, no one will give a rats ass who someone loves. But until then, thinks like this are really important, especially to young people in tough enviroments who feel unsafe in themselves. Something like this might give them some hope.

This is nice and all, but it won't really mean anything until a top-tier **active** NHLer discloses that he is a member of the LGBT+ community.
Good point, but this will help make it easier for that “top-tier” guy in the future. Rome wasn’t built in a day. And it will likely take a few decades still for people of different sexualities to be considered “normal” in such a macho environment like professional sports.

What would be a story, hypothetically, would be to prove that there is some actual bias that still exists in the league, which is what this story is insinuating. But, nobody asks him why he was hesitant, which is probably the most important question.
