I think the "if you promise not to use it for evil" part is the same as in game, it gives a little speedbump, a little push instead of just pulling. its a little playful possible disqualifier, as in game instead of you are amazing you are beautiful ofcourse ill go home with you, you give that little speedbump, that is easy to overcome, so youd say you are beautiful, but i only go home with you if you make me some tea.

Hey Helen, Closed loops are where, for example, you hear the end of the story... And open loop by contrast is where you know the beginning of the story and are "hooked" - but you don't know the end yet, so it's an open loop and thus you want to keep reading or listening or watching to find out...
