Painting Sunflowers and Peonies with Amaco Velvet Underglazes on Small Plates

- In this video I have four test plates that I'm painting on Amaco Velvet Underglazes. Two are Sunflowers and two are pink Peonies.
I'm painting on B-Mix 5 w/grog stoneware, that has been bisque fired to cone 04.
When the underglaze dries, I will immediately apply two coats of Amaco's HF-9 Zinc-free Clear Glaze. These will be Glaze fired to cone 5.

Just love watching your videos so relaxing and enjoyable.Thank you for sharing.I make CP soap and now candles with mugs that didn't turn out. Last night I had set out some fragrance oil for making candles and the cat got up on the table and knocked them all off broke the cap on one now my house smells like a lime tree

Lisa, I have RA so I get the pain you speak of. I’m praying for us both, that we can enjoy this wonderful gift Pottery for many many years.
Oh, so sorry you have RA. I was tested for that, but they said what I have is just regular arthritis. 🤔 Whatever that exactly that means. I have stopped creating the amount of pottery I used to make and sell at art fairs, and have started painting some. It's much easier on my body. I still teach pottery, though, so I still make quite a bit there three days a week. 😀 Good luck with your RA. My sister-in-law's went into remission. She's been doing good now for a few years.

Secondly, your kitties are precious in their boxes! Too funny! Molly (Mollie?) has beautiful eyes 😍 I love for you that you’re finding time to paint - nice job on the paintings you shared! Flowers bring so much joy especially when you can get your hands in the earth with them. 🪻🪷🌺🌼🌸 I turned 50 this year and am late to the pottery game. I’m nervous about the physical aspect of doing shows and markets like you’re describing. Lifting full kiln shelves and 50lb boxes of clay is difficult. We lost one of our dogs, Nigel a sweet white Cavapoo, 2 years ago this month & get choked up right along with you thinking about him. Our dogs are part of our family like yours. Sure do appreciate the nice conversation with your pottery & painting videos. 🥰 Until next time 🤗

You should take a look at the forms from Sharon Hoppe Designs, I prefer them to GR Pottery forms. The selection of sizes is much better, and the quality is far superior. So glad to see a new video from you, I’ve missed you!

I’ve found that with the GR forms as well. I cut them quite a bit bigger to get the deeper side. I’ve seen people just press a 2x4 into clay as well. Just sand the ends! Great tutorial as always. I have been wanting to get some of the Amaco underglazes to try but omg I was shocked at the prices!! Wow!! You make it look soooo easy. I’ve tried your technique so many times and they just don’t turn out.
I'm sure yours look fine. We're too critical of ourselves. I do the same thing. I have several really good artists in my pottery class, and their underglaze designs so pretty. A 2x4 would make a cute soap dish! :-) There are so many things to use as molds. 😀

Thank you! What are peptides? I'll have to Google that. I have had injections in various parts of my body, and they do help, but they don't last very long.

Thank you for showing us how to use our underglazes. Please share when they come out of the kiln. What form do you use to make these cute plates?
These were made using GR pottery forms.
I watch you all the time, started potting when I turned 60 and I love your doodle bowls and paintings. My black underglaze melts when I fire in the glaze firing with a clear over the top, I paint on bisque ware and on stoneware I fire to 1240 degrees celsius. I live in Australia. Do you have any idea why the black melts? The other colours are fine.
Not 100% sure. (That's 2264 degrees in Fahrenheit, so close to a Cone 6.) It shouldn't melt at that temperature. What type of black underglaze are you using? Some underglazes have a bit of flux in them and will turn shiny and stick to the kiln shelf and could possibly run at a higher firing temperature. Do you use a witness cone to make sure your kiln is actually firing hotter than cone 6? Also, are you applying the black thicker than the other colors? If it's applied too thick, the clear overglaze has flux in it, which could make it run. I thin my black underglaze a little when I use it as a liner in the Xiem Applicator Bottle. I used to, but it didn't seem to help a lot. Then I had a hard plastic bracelet made, and that helped a little. Maybe I should give the braces a try again. My doctor wants me to try gel shots in my wrists, so I may try that. Thanks!! ❤️
We lost our Archie dog just yesterday - it’s so heartbreaking - our sweet boy only made it to 8 years old 😢 he got pancreatic cancer
Awww, that is so sad! 😔 We lost Archie's momma when she was only 5 yrs old. She had heart issues and died during surgery. It was awful. Our pets are like family, aren't they. Not sure how long our Archie will last. It'll kill me to put him down. 😞
