    beautiful work my man, we moved into a new house and ive slowly been uncovering some of these popups amongst the grass! this helped a great deal after finding them all to have them working more smoothly (after some digging!)

    I have two Orbit hard top heads that demonstrate the same if not the exact same issue as described in the video. I resolved the problem by replacing the seal with new ones from new Orbit plastic heads. The seals are not the same, but they fit decently enough that the sprinkler stem does not bind up during travel. I am convinced that Orbit has redesigned the sprinklers since this video was created. They appear different. I'll let you know how long this fix will last.

      @@sccpsteve oh, I wasn’t aware of the redesign. I know that they use cheap materials on that seal.

    I have used petroleum jelly with good results. But honestly I don't remember exactly how long it lasts. The advantage is you don't need to remove the assembly. The disadvantage is that it feels mildly inappropriate ;)
    Another method to trim the edge as shown above, would be to rub the gasket on some fine sandpaper on a flat surface.

      I have used sandpaper also.

      Probably best to slip a thin rubber casing over it before you apply the lubricant.

      I did not expect to snigger when trying to sort a sprinkler problem. My hat is off to you sir.

    You can also use plumber's grease on the Black shaft that will make it move smoother

      Ok.

      Plumbers grease did nothing for my two problem zones. I have to manually hold one of the heads up and have my wife turn the zone on and that gets them all up and spraying, or I turn the zone off and then on quickly after and it'll get them all up. Not sure if I've got a pressure issue for 2 zones or just corroded heads.

      What about using a little wet/dry sand paper, before adding grease, to smooth the black shaft part, or on inside of white part, to stop it from snagging up so badly?

    Heads cost 1 dollar way easier to replace and when ypu use orbit heads your asking for issues. Spend the extra buck amd get a good head .

      I recommend not even going to Home Depot or Lowe’s at all. I would go to a Ewing irrigation store or a local Irrigation store. They have more a variety of sprinkler heads and they are little bit cheaper. I prefer to use Hunter sprinklers because they are more durable and they last longer. They don’t stick as easy as Rain Bird or Toro and Orbit sprinklers. I also recommend using the Hunter MP Rotator because it distributes the water evenly and will save you water on your water bill

    What if I have a pop up that I don't want to pop up?
    Will a heavy rock on top prevent it from popping up?

    • @fixitjohn
      @fixitjohn  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi John, thank you for your question. It would depend on the size of rock and the pressure in your sprinkler system. I hope that helps.

    • @Horsecentstoday
      @Horsecentstoday ปีที่แล้ว

      @@fixitjohn yes I already thought it would depend.
      But please answer my question. Is it theoretically possible?

      @fixitjohn if a person can press a sprinkler head down with a foot.
      Then a decent rock should achieve the same

    Can't you just take some 2000 grit wet sand paper or something and work it until it's seats good?

    Sprinkler Butcher, try cleaning the gasket before chopping it apart. You should get pretty good water flowing out the top😂🤣😝

    by removing that lip you just made it worse. dirt will get in there and lock up the shaft even more. a good head with nozzle is about four or five dollars at a sprinkler supply.

    People put sprinklers too low or build up dirt around them after they are installed.
