    This scene followed by the ending narration sum up the series and the whole concept of what "chuunibyou" is and what it means to each of us individually. We all run from reality in our own ways and while a logical and grow-up part of us understands this, we still catch ourselves doing it. The Unseen Horizon and Rikka's search for it is an exaggerated example of how people deal with loss and grief. It's no different than believing there's an afterlife and that one day we will be reunited with our loved ones or visiting a relative's grave and talking the gravestone like it were the actual person. We create powerful ideas of what we wish we were and imagining changing things beyond our human control. It's those little moments of imagination and delusion that allow us to continue living as humans and to cope with the challenges we face in life.
    It's embarrassing and silly, but it's all part of the human condition.

    Yuuta understood that he cannot force the chuunibyou off Rikka. He needs to help her address the underlying reason for the chuunibyou syndrome (not being able to accept her father's death/not being able to say goodbye) in a way she can understand -- through fantasy.

    0:37 really got me. I cried along with Rikka and this made so much sense to me. That even the simple act of watering the plants with that sprayer, which Rikka treated even that as a weapon, would make her well up and cry (the cry felt so REAL too and so well animated) because of what she briefly left behind. That alone made the scene work so well, and it made it so much better. This whole scene is so beautiful, one of my favorite in all of anime.

    this was such a powerful show with such intricate gray-area themes. it’s realistic. everything had to be rushed at the end and they didn’t get to say everything they needed to say. a lot was left to the imagination, and it wasn’t a perfectly satisfying ending. it was messy and yuuta definitely made immature mistakes about how handled everything. but life is just like that sometimes. i think it was a beautiful story

  • @samuraizerro
    @samuraizerro 3 ปีที่แล้ว +32

    I absolutely love the lead up and storytelling power of Yuuta's banishment. Before this, everybody else's felt corny and would elicit a laugh from me by how over the top they were. Also, Yuuta had established at this point that he had totally discarded that whole persona to move past his chuunibyou syndrome.
    But then, to see him pull it off just this once in order to raise up the girl that he loves... Hit right in the feels.

    Oh, man. I cried at this scene when I first watched it.
    I recently lost my dad, and to help me relax one night, my friend took me to the beach (that’s my happy place). We didn’t really say anything for a solid hour as we sat on the tailgate of her pickup, facing the water with drinks in hand and music playing in the background from her car’s radio.
    She just let me sit there and mourn, beer losing its freshness, becoming stale, at my side. Then I started crying as I started thinking about my dad. Then I got up and started screaming at the sky, crying to God it isn’t fair.
    Then two weeks later, I started this series, and this episode came up, and I just could not stop crying. I felt her pain so closely.

    This scene is so powerful and emotional because it resonates with a lot of people....its never easy to say goodbye to someone you love either be a parent,a Friend or a lover....in this moment rikka accepted that her dad was gone and saying her goodbye she finally moved on while finding love in yuuta... We can all learn from Rikka and this anime :)

    As someone who lost their father at 17... and someone who dated a girl when she lost her mom at the age of 18, you can’t underestimate the pain of losing a parent.. especially suddenly, with no notice... This story hit so close for me... it’s beautiful. I would wish them nothing but love for each other if this were real. We all need someone who can embrace who we are, and create your own reality to share. When you’re in love, nothing can shatter a shared vision.

    Yuuta is so amazing here, we finally get to see how powerful he is when he goes all out. I'm not talking about their imaginary weapons and abilities, I am talking about how he can make Rikka believe with his real life actions and words. He puts so much power and conviction into his Vanishment World that it makes Rikka a chunnibyou again. I don't think any other chuunibyou in the series has delivered an attack or move with such strength and intensity, no wonder Rikka could finally see the unseen horizon.
    Epic scene.

    The last 1:30 minutes made me sad, just thinking about how much of our fantasy worlds have been lost to the reality of the world. I for one have had many worlds put on hiatus due to needing to deal with real world problems, which was a shame since I used those worlds as an escape sometimes to deal with those problems. The animation and the music just made it more beautiful.
