    Nice haul. Good to keep it simple when traveling. Loved seeing The Kleenex and LILIPUT sevens. Love visiting old pubs when visiting England and Ireland too.

      @@ballroom23 Oh man, I went to Ireland a bunch of years ago and loved the pubs there too. It was during a World Cup and watching matches at pubs was a blast. One bartender kept calling me Shiny and telling me to stand away from the screens because my melon was too reflective 🤣

    Glad you had a great trip Tom!! What great singles!!! Love Golden Brown! One of my favorite tunes even if I still can’t figure out the time signature it’s in!
    The B side of the Adverts single is so good!! Cool fact: It was co-written by one of the guys from Doctors Of Madness (a cool Stranglers-esque band) and they cut their own version of Back From the Dead.
    Nice Kleenex/Lilliput, never seen those! Have a cd comp on them.
    Great batch of records! Every one of them! Cheers!! .

      Hey there Jon! When I was paying for the record, the shop owner was telling me he almost pulled those out of the bins to take with him to an upcoming Philly /NYC trip. I told him I never see these in bins stateside. Glad he left them out for display. Super nice guy.
      Cheers! Tom

    Hey hey Tommy sounds like a good experience and ya picked up some good sounds too!!! I admire your conviction to A carry on period, when I travel next time I’m gonna have you guide me through the daunting process 👏🏻cheers T👋🏻 enjoy your week✊🏻🎶

      Hiya Lis! A carry-on bag is the way to go for me. It's simple, I figure I can find a laundromat if I need to wash things mid-trip, and I don't worry about losing luggage. I really just bring clothes. No need for a laptop - my phone is a computer. I'll bring a couple of books for the flights but keep e'm small. Have a great week too!
      Cheers, Tommy

    Say Tommy. I got a couple of Strangler's 45s. Not that one though. You went to Britain huh, well at least you didn't bore me with a bunch of Beatle's horseshit... LOL... If I ever went to England I'd find me a bunch of Soccer Hooligans to hang with. I figure those guys would watch my back.... "England swings like a Pendulum do".....

      Hey there Bobby, I did go to a soccer match there: a fifth division match at Barnet FC. The home side won and I had a great time. I tried getting tickets for Millwall - renowned for their hooliganism - but couldn't grab tix. Funny, I didn't even think to search for Beatles locations; there's a million bands that came outta England and no disrespect to the Beatles but they wouldn't even be on my list. Side note: trade Marner to the Isles. ;-)

    How was the beer ?

    • @highrantdistrict
      @highrantdistrict  6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hiya Richard! Great question - it was fine. The alcohol content seemed lower than I'm used to, and nothing was very flavorful, but it was all fine. My fallback there is Guinness but I like variety and tried plenty of British pints. I was surprised to see a lot of IPAs on taps - they're the scourge of the Pacific NW IMO, and they seem to have infected England.

    Great stuff. I remember that about Sister Ray too, was it every record like that? I seem to be remember only the “rare” records having to look at the counter for. Love that Golden Brown, great song.

    • @highrantdistrict
      @highrantdistrict  5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hey there James, the two £8 45s were behind the counter; IIRC the £5 one was not. Not sure if it was most of the non-£1 records or not, but it was A LOT. I'd be more forgiving of that sort of behavior if they'd put the conditions on the dummies. Oh well, not my pig, not my farm.

    Good stuff. Soho has really detiorated for record shops, no ones fault, it just gets picked over pretty quick, although Reckless still has some good stuff & i'm always amazed how good the prices are. The best shops seem to be out towards East London, im discovering great places everytime I go up there. Some nice 7" there.

    • @highrantdistrict
      @highrantdistrict  5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks Harris! I popped into Reckless and checked the punk and post-punk 7" sections and they were pretty well picked over. Walked out empty-handed. Seems lik a touristy area so I bet those Soho shops get a ton of foot traffic. Sister Ray was pretty crowded on a weekday.

    Welcome back! Sounds like you had a great time. Definitely some uncommon (over here, anyway) additions to the collection! I never knew The Beat covered Tears of a Clown - I am going to have to check that out. I just got back this past weekend, but empty-handed as far as records go. Such is life! Cheers!

      Hey there Dave! I do remember the (English Beat's) cover of Tears of a Clown from way back when and was surprised to see it on a 45. The records are secondary - I hope you had a great time in North England! ;-)

    haven't been to london since the late 90s but there used to be a lot of interesting basement stores around the camden market area.

      I'm not sure what area Camden is, but I had a lot of Camden Brewery stouts while I was there. This is a silly thing, but I liked the pint glasses they used for Camden beers: short and stout.

    Good evening Tom. Good to hear that you got away to the UK. I would love to go there. Traveling light sounds great. I would need a carry on for my hairdryer and hair products alone. {smile} Ah yes. "Golden Brown". My favorite Stranglers radio airplay hit. The Beat's "Can't Get Used To Losing You" is an incredible cover version. Have never heard the remix. I saw the original band as a backup to the original Pretenders in 1980 at the Orpheum in Boston. One of the best double bill theater shows from the eighties. Cool that you grabbed that X-Ray Spex. Poly was an original. Passed on too young. Upside Down Records sounds like a solid take-in. Sister Ray is well known. I am also not a fan of the photocopies instead of the actual records. I like to check out the condition of it while I am digging. Having to go and ask to check out the records interrupts the dig. Unless you do it while you are done and checking out. Way to go Tom. Thanks for sharing them~

      Hiya Rob! Yeah, I suppose my lack of need for hair products gives me an advantage... LOL. I'm jealous that you go to see The Beat play live, and with the Pretenders no less! As for the photocopies thing, they must have a real theft problem because I'm with you - not being able to peek at the condition of the record while digging is aggravating. I hope all is well!
      Cheers, Tom

      Hey there Chance, you know, I was overdue to drop a record. THANK SWEET BABY JESUS it wasn't an expensive one this time... LOL. Every time I think about upgrading to a pricier cart, I remember how clumsy I am and it keeps my ass in check.

    Hei, Tom!
    Golden Brown is an interesting sounding song so that's a good find.
    The last time I was in England (UK), was on the week when Irak war started i.e. in March 2003. Judging by the current state of the UK, I won't ever go there again. 😢
    Enjoy the speed of 45 rpm,
    😎👌

      Hey Jarkko! I don't know about the rest of the UK, but I didn't have an issues or see any problems in London - I was only in London during this trip. As for 45s, my focus has shifted there lately. Of the LPs I really want, either I have them or they are too expensive, and there's a lot of fun (to me) in digging for 45s.
      Cheers! Tom
