PICKAROON--Homemade from an Axe

แชร์

  • เผยแพร่เมื่อ 24 ม.ค. 2014
  • Creating a Pickaroon out of an old Axe. Watching the Videos of Hand crafted tools and Homesteading done by Wranglerstar has inspired me to create one of my own. I have always had a sore back picking up fire wood by hand after cutting and splitting, I believe I will have the advantage over the trees now. I hope you all enjoy the video, feel free to leave comments.

      wranglerstar Thank you Sir! Your videos have definitely inspired me to restore all of my family's old tools, as well as create some new ones as i go. I am currently working on several other old AXE and wood working tool projects...more videos to come!

    Thanks for showing us how to repurpose the axe head. This project is within the grasp of most do-it-yourselfer's. My thought on purchasing the head. If I have to buy the head, might as well buy the hole thing.

      Im just wondering, since you have a double headed axe you probaly know this.
      What is the actual usage of a double headed axe? I just cant of any practical usage in chopping wood with a double or going to war with a double.(not modern war ofc)

    • @Gnsellers77
      @Gnsellers77  9 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      HorizonExer one side is usually a finer edge for chopping deep into the tree, and the other side is a wider edge for splitting or taking out the chunks of wood on the opposite swing. some people alternate on every other swing, and others just clear chunks every once in a while. The wider edge can also be used to limb where the wood is tougher making the edge last longer....hope that helps your question.

    • @phillipmiehm2580
      @phillipmiehm2580 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      HorizonExer, a double bitted axe was used in warfare to allow the user to execute cuts on the return, as well as providing a second striking edge if the first should happen to become damaged. They weren't particularly common, but there are examples that exist.

    • @tomjeffersonwasright2288
      @tomjeffersonwasright2288 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nick Sellers Double bitted axes allows you to start the day with two sharp edges. You can also have a very fine edge and a more chisel shaped edge for different kinds of cutting. They were popular with professional loggers years ago.

    Great job and nice craftsmanship! Pay no attention to the small percentage of TH-cam twits who always have to have some criticism of someone else's project. I'm convinced those jerks have never made anything. Anyone who has ever crafted a project knows that there are many pauses, reflections, re-assessments, re-groupings and then forging ahead again as new ideas come up and the project moves forward. As Wranglerstar said, "You've done yourself proud" and you have something you can pass down to the next generation! Function and beauty in the same tool! Can't ask for more than that. Well done!
