The Postal service is slow right now because much of the mail goes as belly freight on airliners. Right now, many airliners are grounded and the result is that Fedex and UPS are swamped with freight. Their planes are literally taking off at maximum allowable weight! Things will remain this way for about another 6-12 months or so, unfortunately.

I had the 1994 1/2 S4s. What a great car. Bought mine used with 3k miles on it. Replaced the clutch lines with metal covered one's, replaced the alternator and motor mount (broke it). Clutch Plates. I was young when I got it just 25 so as you can imagine it was the crown of my possessions and a chick mag. Couldn't keep tires on the thing and AC sometimes worked sometimes didn't but would still own the car today if it wasn't for someone not looking before changing lanes. Funny story the person that hit me thought it was a honda and would only cost a few k to fix till their insurance co told them otherwise. Looking to get the new Lotus Emira now. well see how that plays out after paying for my kids college. Wish I could add pics in comments.....Dan

The S4s is truly a rare and desirable Esprit - glad to see this one road worthy again. Yes, an Esprit owner should be ready for unexpected repairs, but the cars can be reliable if maintained correctly. There are very few shops in the country who know these cars inside and out. "Average" repair shops tend to incorrectly fix one problem while they inadvertently break three other things. Getting to know your car and tackling the repair yourself is always the best bet. They really aren't hard to work on if you take you time and accept that they were put together at the factory in sequential process. This made sense for assembly, but not so much for easy repairs. I'd say the replacing the driver side gas tank and removing the heater box are probably the worst jobs on the car!

I had a 91 se and it was pretty reliable. Just a bunch of little issues. Clutch was about the biggest job. But the car was really fast. I smoked vetts and stangs of its day. The v8 guys just simply could not believe that it was a four cylinder. One mustang guy called me a D##^~! because I would not admit it was a 12 cylinder. Had smoked him light to light. They are a blast! But I remember a guy somewhere in the USA selling parts. Not sure if he still in business. Great Job Wizard!!

Back in the 90s,I was asked to rebuild an esprit North american spec engine using a turbo block and make it european spec.I said you don't want much ,but I managed it using custom Milodon forged pistons and a bunch of other very special things that in those days weren't so hard to acquire.I wouldn't even attempt it now without a greatly expanded machine shop.

Given the Wizards comments about Toyotas it is ironic that the sports coupe within his price range which he did buy, a five year old 1989 Toyota GT-4, turned out to be proverbial Hooptie style money pit. It also spent a lot of time off the road as although the GT-4 was sold here in the UK, Toyota didn't seem to have any spares in the UK and whenever a hose or something needed replacing it had to be shipped in from Japan

Coming from the U.K. I can confirm that it is an old English quote regarding Lotus' however since they started putting Japanese engines in their cars they are now very reliable, Lotus has always been about lightweight precision driving, a drivers car!

@13:00 the Esprit winked out of existence momentarily as the universe re-adjusts to the anomaly of a fully functioning Lotus.

Bill seems like a patient soul. An important quality to possess when smitten by great old cars. Coming out the door, all the echoes made it "sound like" a Spitfire warming up. Sigh.

My favorite supercar when I was growing up and still now was the Monte Verdi Hai. I sat in one when I was about 9 or 10 and that was it. Very rare nowadays.

I noticed both Wizard and the owner towered over the Lotus. Would have loved to see either of the two guys climb into the drivers seat. I owned a Lotus Europa in 1970. It was even smaller. At the time I was 22 and at 6'3" it was a challenge, but I made it in and out. Most drivers look like a contortion artist Most nimble car I ever owned.

Put me in the never had an issue with my Esprit camp. My 95 S4 was super reliable. Only thing I did was a steel braided clutch line as the stock one would loose pressure due to heat.

Bill can buy very light and very well made aluminium double reservoirs from any well known UK dealer. I have one on my own 1990 SE. This seperated the chargecooler coolant and te engine coolant. A good thing.
    Kind regards.

That Lotus looks gorgeous, probably one of the best looking cars of that era. Just need the phone number of a mobile mechanic if you ever drive it.

My best friend had 2 of these. 1 black and 1 red. Both amazing cars but same thing, they spent months in the shop waiting for parts. Damn shame Lotus does nothing to support owners.

I get a lot of things from overseas. I used to be able to know that it would always take exactly 14 days for parts to come from Europe. Last 2 years it is 1 to 2 months.

The fastest four-cylinder production car record is true. As well, pick up any copy of Motor Trend from the eighties and early nineties and look at the comparison speed chart in the back. The Esprit Turbo was number one in 0-60 for years.

Wow nice job wizard. That car is beautiful... I especially like the color with those wheels...the wheels are my favorite. And, my favorite car, super or un-super, was a ‘63 corvette coupe. In blue. I tried very hard to buy one back in 1967, priced at $3200. Me being young with a shite job and the draft hanging over my head I could not make it happen. Eventually, early 2000s, I got the fever for a Golf r. Took me 19 years to get back around to it, but it sits in the garage now. I don’t know why I am blathering on like this. COVID isolation fever. If I told my wife all the things I plan to do to the R, I’d most likely be out on the street.
